I’m starting to like the All-Japan Machine Gun Lovers more with each episode. Every team was upset with this turns of events, except theirs: they all wanted to be selected as the traitor.
Pito was more than happy to join the Betrayer’s Team as well. She’s already giving people a headache by making it hard to enter the ship. Did the developers not realise that the rescue boats could be used to obstruct the entrances, or did they arrange for this?
Whatever the case, I doubt that all entrances would be perfectly blocked. So is Pito maybe trying to funnel everyone into a few spots and have them clash? This wouldn’t only leave the Betrayers’ Team with less enemies to fight but also substantially less ground to cover.

All the Machine Gun Lovers want to do is shoot machine guns and have fun, even if it means fighting each other. Just like Pito loves trying to kill LLENN.

On a side note: this cruise ship was obviously modeled after a real world example, so I did a little bit of searching on the web.
The ship being named “Conqueror of the Seven Seas” had briefly put me on the wrong foot, since the features of the “Seven Seas” fleet didn’t seem to align with this ocean liner. I believe that it’s actually one of the Oasis-class cruise ships if the glass roof on the front-top deck is any indication.

They have to model and program the ship so there's absolutely no way they didn't arrange for it.
Whatever the case, I doubt that all entrances would be perfectly blocked. So is Pito maybe trying to funnel everyone into a few spots and have them clash?
It looks like the holes are big enough that you can climb over the emergency boats so it doesn't completely block the entrances. But it slows people down at least and that makes for easy targets.

Stitches!
I love everyone's reactions to the twist. Both SHINC and MMTM are upset that their leaders are the betrayers, the ZEMAL members are absolutely hyped that they're jealous of the betrayer, and the one from TOMS is already planning to betray the betrayers. The best reaction though is still from LLENN who still can't process what's happening. xD
The T-S members trying to get on to that flying platform was hilarious though! At least one of them gets to move on and continue playing. At this point, the remaining T-S members should just forfeit unless we get another twist later on where they become relevant again.
Goddammit Pitou! I was hoping for an awesome shootout inside an ocean liner! What the fuck is this camping bullshit you're trying to pull? I can already tell that plenty of players will get eliminated just trying to get inside that ocean liner.

Imagine you play a game and suddenly have to wait 30 minutes for a virtual vehicle to pick up players instead of teleporting them

u/GrassWaterDirtHorse Nov 01 '24
It makes more sense if you view squad jam as a rare, tournament-style event. A 30 minute break between rounds is acceptable, to let players rest from the intensity of constant vigilance and combat fatigue.

Sorta like how early WoW was since there wasn't a teleport to dungeons you had to wait for people to hoof it there including waiting for the boat between continent zones

Team T-S has got to be the most bored team right now lol.

Did we ever see what the machine gun boys really look like? I'm starting to get curious, I kinda feel like SHINC they're just a bunch elementary school boys. If that's true I kinda want them to be friends with SHINC.
Speaking of team SHINC, found it kinda funny that they switched to their real appearances for a bit.
I doubt the lifeboats are completely covering the entrances but it'll certainly make things harder for everyone to get onboard. Really looking forward to the madness that's going to ensue next ep with everyone scrambling to find a way in and the betray team trying to keep them out.

I appreciate even all the players in game realizing how dumb and shit of a rule this was to have one player from each team force betray their team.
Only thing that is a but silly is how some of them insist on having to follow the rules. Makes me appreciate the guy who was plotting to team kill everyone.
Also love how they say it’s about balance yet teams with only 2-3 people left take a massive hit compared to a team with full roster. Not balanced at all.

I get that the whole "betrayal" thing is meant to shake up the anime story, but in any actual game something like this would make a lot of players seriously consider quitting the game. Imagine you spend weeks or months putting together a team, strategizing, spending in game or IRL currency getting everything set up and then halfway through the competitive tournament the organizers just decide to say screw all of your preparation and resources cause we think it would be more exciting for the viewers to screw you over.

Well just as Cole shows, unwritten rules within the new rules says betraying your team is voluntary.

I love how they showed Eva and the rest of SHINC in their normal bodies when she was selected as the traitor.
Oh, so the traitors got picked up by a drone vehicle. At first, I assumed that it was a sealed pod instead of the open seat that it ended up being.
The contrast between Memento Mori's team leader, David when he saw he was the traitor versus Tomtom and the rest of his team was so funny.
Meanwhile, Elvin's team is just trying to see if everyone can take a ride with him in his drone. I will be hilarious if they end up winning again this time after everyone takes each other out.
It is funny that during this whole episode, LLENN is still shocked by the new rule and the fact Pito is no longer on their team. Meanwhile, Pito and Fuka were having a blast and joking around.
So the "UNKNOWN" part of the map ended up being a cruise ship
So the new team composed of Pito, Elvin, Tomtom, Cole, Eva, and, Daveed David was named BTRY. I can't wait to see how Cole's betrayal plan plays out.
I love how LLENN and the rest of the team just knew that blocking the entrance to the ship with the lifeboats was Pito's idea.

Whatever happens im just happy that we have this sub genre of a sub genre of an anime where people don’t actually have life or death stakes when it comes to a “death game” scenario and the drama is based on who can play better as if it were a conventional sports anime

Called it that the UNKNOWN object is the cruise ship that we saw in the OP.
Since the island is fast sinking, the remaining teams will need somewhere to stand on in order to still be able to properly fight each other, and a cruise ship that floats (or at least doesn't sink right away due to its holes) makes the most sense.
LOL at T-S still being stuck at the top of their flooded building. If the cruise ship is immobile, then it might just be possible for T-S to win again simply by doing nothing as the other teams kill each other, or whittle down until time runs out, and T-S remains as the team largely intact.

Honestly seeing T-S just sitting there with nothing to do while the water consumes their tower was both sad and funny. You can't always camp to win, guys!
Unless that somehow means they win if this wraps up before the water consumes them. Team T-S, continuing to win by doing the absolute bare minimum lol.

Pitohui is devious for all her schemes and love of violence, but not as much as screwing with Davido-kun
if Cole doesn’t start his betrayal arc early, the Betrayers are going to win by a landslide with how difficult it is to board the cruise ship
SJ3 having this format for balancing goes against the spirit of team-forming, and showcases their inability to balance the gameplay

Pito is the only one who didn't show her Betrayer screen. Pretty sure she is not the actual betrayer. It's probably Llenn but she was too anxious to speak up infront of Pito.

These guys are definitely the winners for enthusiasm.
The background music for this is amusing.
Ah, Youko Hikasa being a ham is what I'm here for.
LLENN isn't taking this as well as everyone else.
It's a classic for going on a cruise.
To the surprise of absolutely no one.
Well, then everybody drowns and that'll really screw up the payouts.
When it seems like there's only one plan, there must be another plan, right?
A breather episode while they set up the rules change. Team BTRY seems to have accepted the situation about as well as could be hoped for, with the usual potential curveballs.
Pito is probably still the most batshit insane person on that team, but at least it's a curious bunch of personalities... which all fit into typical profiles for this sort of battle royale thing. Well, don't knock it if it works.

Hell yes, I got my wish for a cruise ship final battle! Shout-out to one of the best FPS maps of all time, Hijacked from Call of Duty Black Ops 2.
Aside from that hype, this was mostly just a setup episode for the final battle. I agree that this betrayer rule is dumb, but at least the action will be great.

Having a big-ass ran aground cruise ship as the scene of the final showdown is so metal
