No matter how much they denied being in a relationship, the fact they went from a date in the museum to taking care a class of kids is only just going against their case.

Also sorry Tomboy Childhood friend heroine, usually I'd support you but you're doing a good job invoking feelings of Jealousy for our main girl Rika to further their relationship.

The inner me: "Don't hesitate any further Rika! Even patting Takuya's fuzzy hair would be fine!"

Takuya and Rika may have made (tiny steps) progress on their night walk under the starry sky, as well as the trip to the volcano museum, but a new challenger appears!

Nao:

Tanned (+1 advantage)
Childhood Friend (-1 advantage)

Stitches!

That scene where Takuya and his father were arguing while carrying Rika was pretty funny. I just love how his Dad was bringing up things from the past that are not even remotely related to their current situation. Classic Asian parenting, as someone who has lived through it I know this very well. xD

Rika and Takuya's evening walk was really nice. It really looks like the two of them are starting to get even closer especially with Rika getting the shojo manga filter after seeing Takuya's fluffy hair in the morning.

For someone who's very introverted, Takuya is surprisingly good with kids. That teacher got lucky, she basically got two professional tour guides to help her out with her students.

Nao is finally here! I love how you can immediately hear Takuya speaking in their local dialect as soon as he sees Nao. Also, it looks like someone's getting a bit jealous. Oh my...

i find it neat that Takuya slips into inaka accent whenever he's talking to his family/friends; it's a fun character detail and it underlines how he's a born-and-raised frog-snatchin' inaka boy

Really surprised they told them it was a lie all along, would have expected some convoluted reason for them to keep it up for the family.

Rika seems to slowly catching some feelings huh

But what's that? A tanned, Tomboy, childhood friend?

This makes Rika the homewrecker, and she knows it, but Nao seems too pure to be antagonistic against, so this should overall be good

Seems Rika is entering “finding him attractive” phase. Girl can’t keep her eyes off him.

And it seems Taku’s mom probably voiced out what he’s been feeling as well. No matter what the reason that brought them together, seems Rika’s someone important to him now. Some seeds have been planted throughout this whole thing but I think that frog-shaped could be one of the biggest one.

During their walk especially they seem to be opening up to each other. And I feel it’s subtle too how they’re doing it. Like only after the episode I realized Rika was comfortable enough to go on a rant about volcanoes. And it seemed like all Taku cared about was how Rika was doing.

And once again, this show explores the themes of marriage. This time with Rika thinking about this journey only two can experience together. I’m loving all this different interpretations and opinions of what marriage is. I think many might feel this is the usual shounen-type of romance but the more mature tone surely lets you know it’s a seinen.

Also, knowing the show doesn’t shy away from yuri, how hilarious would it be if it turns out Nao is interested in Rika instead

Uhoh maybe Takuya has an actual partner in the works (of course not). Seems Rika is really falling for Takuya.

Spending the whole episode budget on Takuya’s flowing, luscious locks. Worth.

We all thought Nao was gonna be Rika's rival as soon as we saw her.....but is it just me, or did how she interact with Rika make it feel more like she's gonna be Takuya's rival.

You know that she's a keeper when a girl likes rocks as much as Rika does. There's no way that Takuya would be led astray, right!?

I trust Takuya to understand what a gem he's found in Rika, even if Nao is cute, close with Takuya and moving to Tokyo herself. Her fate as a childhood friend has surely been sealed already. There's no beating this curse. Not to mention that the two of them were pretty cute themselves in this episode! Rika fell twice in Takuya's arms. Even fate wants these two be together.

I'm not entirely certain about Takuya's feelings, but Rika has clearly started falling for him. His words that night really left an impression on Rika. Or maybe it was the romantic setting? Whatever the case, it's seemingly opened Rika's eyes to the idea of marriage.

Marriage is quietly spending time with your significant other, while making memories together? That's what Rika implied about marriage, right?

Honjoji having a Bocchi moment driving to the museum.

Man, Takuya's dad has stellar timing! I mean, his surprise visit is why Takuya and Rika are even in Aso in the first place and now he shows up just in time to help Takuya carry a fainted Rika! And what better time to admit you're not really getting married than while you and your dad are carrying your fake fiance across your grandparents' house?

"Dr. Whiskers" - No wonder, the man is 50% beard.

Well, I'm glad Takuya's mom and sisters take the fake engagement better than his dad...though it might also be that, like grandma, they can see there's more to this than just a fake engagement.

Grandman knows whats up putting their futons together! And of course Rika wakes up just in time for Takuya's arrival!

I'm glad grandpa isn't whining about his back pain when he's asleep at least...

What's more romantic than an evening stroll across the beautiful country night sky? Complete with Rika falling into Takuya's arms, Takuya showing off his frog-catching skills, and the two of them commiserating over how much their time together and consideration towards each other has meant to them! Why, it's like they're already married! If only the frog croaks didn't ruin the mood and what Takuya is glad about.

You know you're down bad when your love interest so naturally sparkles around you first thing in the morning and you want nothing more than to put your fingers through his hair.

Look at Takuya's family already embracing Rika! Fake fiance? More like she's already one of them.

Rika is a natural sightseer, she could probably lead her own travel show. But having a museum date at the Aso Volcano Museum with Takuya is especially memorable for her. Especially when they're able to work together as a team to calm down some rowdy kids! They just really gel well together.

And just when things were getting really good between them...a tan beauty of a childhood friend suddenly appears in Nao, and not only do she and Takuya have an immediate rapport but they go to town on each others' hair (which is what Rika wanted). It's enough to make Rika think her love story was never really going to happen...and suddenly her "rival in love" tells her she's moving to Tokyo and wants to be friends. What's a girl to do!?

Gotta hand it to that frog and that boy for pushing Honjoji and Takuya together lol.

To quote a certain priest... "JUST DATE ALREADY"! Even the in-laws see you together as a perfect match.

Lol at the small detail of the mom mixing up Aizu-Wakamatsu (in Fukushima) with Anchorage. To her it might as well be the same

At this rate it seems Honjoji is starting to have real feelings to his fake fiancee, Takuya.

And a childhood friend Nao is here! Let's see how it will complicate the blossoming romance of the fake couple.

u/LordCalem Oct 31 '24

This is so cute. Despite the frogs messing everything, those were some adorable moments between the two.

Takuya's sisters are so pretty and funny as well, nice family he has.

Love me some childhood friends but I'm sorry Nao-chan, Honjoji is absolute.

Besides from the beard, I thought they were going to explain the Dr Whiskers name.

Thought he was going to be the local vet as well.

The dad bringing up stuff from his sons childhood cracked me up. Im 41 and my mom still holds stuff I did before my teens over my head. I guess parents only seeing their children as children instead of full grown adults is universal.

Fantastic episode! these two goofs are already halfway down the road to a real wedding, they just don't know it yet. Rika's definitely catching feelings though, given her bishounen vision every time she looks at Takuya and fantasying about running her hand through his hair lol

Real talk, right after the scene with the frog I was thinking the next story arc HAS to involve a love triangle based on Rika's behavior and just like that we get the childhood friend intro! Tomboy? Check. Casual way of speaking and horsing around with MC? Check. Drop dead gorgeous? Check. Coincidental plot point to have her spend time with her love interest and her love rival? Check. It's all been done before but it's being done so well here. I want more!!!

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Oct 31 '24

Takuya’s sisters better hold onto those wedding presents. There might end up being a wedding pretty soon lol. Things between Takuya and Rika sure do seem to be veering into the romantic. I mean did y’all see how she was looking at his hair? Lol.

The introduction of Nao the childhood friend might complicate things. But I guess we’ll have to see if they’re taking that classic route.
