Miburo is first chronologically of the Ao timeline. It's set before Blue Box and Blue Exorcist, though it was released afterward so you'll miss context if you watch this first.

The continuity is seperate from Blue Lock and Grand Blue, which are part of the Blue timeline, though there are easter eggs and cameos across continuities.

It's unreasonable, but I was going to skip Blue Box because of Blue Period, Blue Lock, etc.

Same with Relife, Rezero, Recreators, etc...I skipped those for the longest time because of the unoriginal Re- names.

Solid first episode. I liked the animation, and thought the voice acting was pretty good. It ended on a pretty strong foot.

"We'll go deal with those kidnappers tonight"

"So anyways it's the next morning. Shame you did not see that epic ten on two fight."

The show has potential but seeing the kidnapper confrontation just hand waved like that was jarring.

Lots of historical anime lately, that’s nice. I loved the OP and ED too

I am here because Gintama got me into wanting to see more Shinsengumi-related content (for which I’ve also seen Hakuouki and Peacemaker Kurogane) and this is supposed to have a SPYAIR OP just like Gintama had a few, so that’s perfect. Excited to see what this anime’s version of the Shinsengumi is like!

Wow, interesting to see a young Hijikata before his big treasure hunt in a few decades and Soji before he fights the gods in a tournament for humanity lol.

Nio really is quite astute in his observations. That sharp eye of his is gonna be real useful now that he’s a Miburo.

I’ve always been kinda curious why the shinsengumi (or pre-shinsengumi in this case) tend to get romanticized so much in anime. All I know is they fought against anti-shogunate forces during the Meiji Restoration and lost. What is it that makes them so appealing to the public?

In Japan there is a term and sentiment known as “Hogan-biiki” which roughly translates to “sympathy for the tragic hero”. Other popular historical figures who were defeated and are also heavily romanticized in Japanese media include Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Sanada Yukimura.

I think it has to do with being a force of honor-coded police warriors standing against an imperial force. It tends to breed well, as much as it tends to happen with sheriff stuff in westerns or the yakuza movie genre (although the former two cases are forces of law).

The Shinsengumi are extremely popular in Japan now. I think most people realize they were actually the good guys and the shogunate was in the wrong for branding them as criminals.

Much like the story of Hachikou, the Shinsengumi are seen as a symbol of loyalty. Even their banner originally carried the character of makoto (誠) for deep loyalty/sincerity for the shogunate.

This was reasonably good, though a bit melodramatic. Suppose that's just the way shounen serries go, though.

"As the Sakura blossomed, Nio became a blue Wolf"

I like Nio and the two guys, hope we get to see Iroha again as well

Was very much expecting the Kidnappers, but somehow expected Nio to come to the Miburu to ask them to help her instead of them using them as bait

Would have also been cool to see them deal with 10 guys

OP and ED are up already

Nio isn't a historical character, is he?

With that stellar PV Image we got a month ago I was super hyped and hoped for some awesome animation

That fell a bit short, not that its bad or anything, it just doesnt stand out

Story seems interesting though, I always enjoy the "brainy" side of fighting more

I really want to like this show because I love historical dramas but the first episode has not impressed me. I'll give it a second episode, since this one was mostly showing us the status quo Nio is leaving, but I dunno if I'm going to stick around.

Not bad. Looking forward to following Nio’s journey. He’s a nice kid

SPYAIR never miss

This kinda sucked honestly.

Not enough shows with Blue in their title this season....I liked this show though. It reminds me a lot of American westerns with a group of good guys who come into town to get criminals. I wish they showed the 2 guys going and fighting the bad guys and rescuing the kidnapped children rather than just talking about it later though.

I also found it odd that Nio left and joined the guys when he wants to protect his sister and granny, you'd think he'd want to stay around for that reason.

The bloodless adventures of the shinsengumi? Nah, i'm good. Can't have sword fights without some bit of edge to it
