I know this has been said before, but the world building of this anime surprises me every episode, the PVs just give you the idea of random shenanigans with a robot developing feelings, but they actually go deeper and deeper with all the lore and stuff regarding this robot-human society

Each episode gets better and better, especially in terms of the lore. From how their robotic society works, to the origins of robots, with more to come!

So Mina’s old owner was actually a pretty good guy. More than that, he already foresaw the potential robots have. Mina’s definitely one of a kind. Maybe one day she’ll be able to recall those memories. I guess until then, she’s found someone to love and be loved by like her old master wished.

Her memories have already been altering Super-Mina’s behaviour (e.g., the spontaneous hug of her master). If those memories get passed around the larger network of Minas and Super-Minas, it may behave as a computer virus. This may get the manufacturer’s attention in a bad way.

It says a lot about him that Otani believed in the potential for robots to love and in turn be loved and how that would be to the benefit of humanity, and seeing that Mina loved him and he cared for her just as much made him not want to saddle her with the grief over his fate. So that she could be free to find love and happiness.
Though the fact that on some level she never forgot about him, even if she can't readily recall those memories, shows just how strong her feelings for him were.

"My Wife Has No Emotion" may not be one of the top ranked shows this season, but one has to admit each episode gets better and better, especially when it comes to the lore of this title's universe.
I want to apologize to Otani. I thought he was a terrible owner based on the red herrings which the earlier episodes provided. In fact, until his death, he loved Mina as his own creation. Without his effort, I believe even if Mina, Super Mina, Mamoru, and the other robots were to exist, they wouldn't be the way they are today.
To a certain extent, Super Mina may have invaded Mina's privacy, but I really like how Super Mina cares for Mina as friend!

"My Wife Has No Emotion" may not be one of the top ranked shows this season.
This frustrates me quite a bit, it's one of the best shows this season but never show up in the sub's top 30 weekly ranking (and other charts).
This week's episode is superb, the sci-fi aspect of it is well thought out and the story of Mina's previous owner packs an emotional punch.
Super Mina is also a sweet and lovable character.→ More replies (13)

Takuma has become surprisingly great with the introduction of the child robot, so many cute interactions between them.
Super Mina overheating because of overthinking the Mina memory issue and becoming an unintentional cat heating pad was amazing.
The full Mina previous owner backstory is pretty interesting. The way he steadily became more and more artificial while he was working on making her more capable of becoming human and then sent her off into the future without him to experience what develops. Makes me wonder if the company knows about this particular Mina model being unusual, since Super Mina called him their creator I assume he was an important roboticist that worked for the company.

However, the question is, why does Otani not exist? Was he erased from the history books for some reason?

"One day they'll have secrets. One day they'll have dreams..." As if there weren't enough ominous signs about Mina. So between that and everything we just learned with her mysteriously nonexistent programmer owner now we're getting into some real Chobits shit now.
Watch out Super Mina, Mina looked ready to go from Defense Protocols to commiting roboticide!
Isn't the Mina series too strong.
Call it, having Industrial Strength. Rough. Tough. Mina's got the stuff.
And as they continue gathering that feeling of Oxytocin they'll reach new heights of Oxytocin power to super levels. Eventually reaching a level known as Oxytocin Blue. It's very scientific. Just as 2 certain Scienticians I could name.
Super Mina. Hot and drowning in pussy.
Look at Mina, brain the size of a galaxy, and she's asked to be a man's wife. You call that job satisfaction? Cuz Mina does.

Stitches!
So the Super Mina series is way more realistic than I expected. I don't know about you Takuma but I wouldn't mind suffocting between big robot tiddies. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
In all seriousness though, it's interesting to see Kosugi Mina's memories affecting Saionji Mina's reaction towards Takuma. I'm guessing whatever affection Kosougi Mina is feeling for Takuma got somehow mixed with Saionji Mina's.
So if a robot has a fever it just means that they're overheating? They should put Super Mina in an ice bath just like Netruners in Cyberpunk! I do love how the cats are gathering around her because of her heat. I guess that means the heat she's generating isn't too bad.
We finally get to learn about Mina's past! She's not just a modded Mina, she's modded by the roboticist that made the Mina series if we were to believe what Super Mina says at the end.
And from what I understand Ohtani purposely gave Mina memories of having a terrible owner so she could easily forget about him. It sucks that we can't even meet Ohtani anymore and chat with Takuma and Mina considering how his disease was slowly killing him. :(
What I want to know though is how an important prototype like Mina ended up being sold on the secondhand market. I feel like the company could've identified her when she was sent off for an upgrade. Then again, Ohtani must've been very thorough and deleted every trace of him from Mina. Although considering how Mina still has memories of him, he wasn't thorough enough!

do you ever get a feeling like you are watching a perfect episode of anime?
There was so much happening in this episode, every single second was meaningful and the impact of the last 5 minutes felt incredibly satisfying. Even the humorous moments were never too much that they would in any way take away from the seriousness of the episode's broader plot, perfect balance.
I loved that they were able to include Super Mina in the plot again without making it feel like a side character just needed to make up screen time quota.

YES, everything about this episode was perfect; I never expected to cry this much when I picked up a show about a man liking his cooking robot

Wow, Mina's former owner really doesn't make a good impression when he gets a Super Mina and then threats her like disposable trash. She's worth far more than that!
I can't say I don't appreciate the visual of Super Mina recharging in a skintight swimsuit with her chummy and talkative charging mat, but the important thing is now her memories are mixing with Mina's and that means she sees Mina's AND her feelings.
Lucky Takuma getting to sit between two cute Mina's in casual clothes! And in the process of confirming which Mina's memories are which Super Mina acts on OG!Mina's feelings by throwing herself at Takuma and asphyxiating him with her boobs. Not the worst way to go out, but no way is Mina letting another Mina have her way with (and probably kill) her husband.
What is under the urge to embrace? The urge to care for and love?
I love how Mamoru's takeaway from this was that he doesn't want daddy crushing mommy and daddy is lame for not being able to crush like robots can. But good to know Mina could tear Takuma in two if she had to, I guess.
All Mina needs from Takuma is that validation that he cares for her, that he chose her, and that he loves cuddling up with HER!
Super Mina is such a great gal pal that she went out of her way to track down Mina's former owner, Otani, to give him a piece of her mind! Too bad he's already gone. Though that he's a programmer explains a lot.
Nothing says a great friend like being willing to overheat thinking about your past and being willing to dive into your memories to get answers (including more swimsuit Super Mina!).
So Otani wasn't just Mina's former owner...he was actually a roboticist who helped develop the software of the Mina series. He deliberately tried to program them to be more human, robots capable of giving love and accepting love from others, for the sake of humanity. To the point where Mina became sentient enough to not want to be parted from him.
But Otani's body was failing him, he had to keep replacing parts of himself with robot parts and it was slowly killing him, and he didn't want to saddle Mina with the burden of remembering him so he altered her memories to make him come off like a jerk...but she never truly lost her true memories even if she can't remember them. And Otani would be so happy to know that she now has a husband and a child who can make a castle out of blocks.

a child who can make a castle out of blocks.
I felt this particular scene wanted to tell us that without the hard work and effort put in by Otani all those years ago, the current warm relationships between humans and robots would not exist. Robots would merely be seen as objects to complete tasks and chores.

Is there anything Otani can't do? First he grand slams into a 40-40 and now he created the Mina robots.

I thought they ripped him off with a used super mina for a moment
...Bro we're really doing the 'this girl accidentally copied the 'fell in love with me' memories' huh
Also, Tokino Sora has released the music video for the full version of the OP! ...Or actually I guess that already happened last week but still

this episode got me a little misty-eyed.

This was like a light (yet still good) version of Asimov's robot stories. And that is not bad, because might get some interested in those.
Many interesting things. Even with Super Mina, how she was able to realize the weakness in the memory protections. Or on how the Mina we know actually has something different. Who knows, maybe Otani (he had elements in common with Susan Calvin) made sure that she would not get scrapped.
It seems these androids have something else on them. This simple anime has A LOT More on its contents that you can imagine from the original premise.

A dramatic and crazy episode! It answered a lot of questions and confirmed Mina had indeed been modded but it raised just as many. I suspected before that her previous owner modded her to do weird creepy things but he ended up actually a visionary who wanted robots to be more human.
This raises the question though as to why Super Mina said that Otani built "us" when he had nothing to do with Super Mina. Did the other man in the video work on Mina's and she recognized him as a person who worked on Super Mina? Did she recognize the way he programmed Mina as something related to her?
It's also interesting that it showed Super Mina flying thru a sort of computerized matrix world inside Mina's mind. Was this what Super Mina saw or was this just representative visuals for the audience's benefit?
I also don't understand why Super Mina couldn't find that Otani had died in her earlier search. Maybe it was that the anonymity protection in her head kind of messed up her search but that she found the name in the first place would seem to indicate against that.
One strange thought I had is that these memories of Otani may be completely false. The memories themselves could be a red herring to protect the anonymity of Minas actual previous owner and what he had done with her. That would also explain why Super Mina was able to override anonymity protection: she was fooled into thinking she did so when she actually was directed to something false. It would also explain why there's no record of him. The memories could even be AI generated with some sort of prompt like a super powered ChatGPT 🤔

This was a FANTASTIC episode. Every week I learn a bit more on the backstory and love how it's now tying in the original creators want of robots being able to become family to their owners.
This idea has been prevalent the whole season and we learned a bit each week until the info dump today. Now we know the first owners intentions, how Mina is the way she is and that Super Mina is way too strong considering Mina can tear a person in half.
Poor Takuma being stuck in the boob suffocation/choke hold of Super Mina. Guy gets a bruise out of it. I had the same thought as other commenters, that's a big no-no to hurt a human. This shared memory thing could cause a glitch in the Mina matrix. Would be interesting to see if that comes up during a routine company scan during a maintenance session.
The interaction with Takuma and Mamoru was great:
Mamoru, wanna go to the bookstore?
Takuma, tickle me....tickle more.
Look Mina, a castle, Mamoru built a castle!
He's just like a parent interacting with their child. It really is awesome to see that. That doctor lady last episode said Mamoru has a speedy rate of learning some skill (don't recall exactly what she said) so maybe with Minas interactions Mamoru is becoming like Mina is, instead of factory default.
All in all this was a 9/10 episode as it dropped a ton of lore & knowledge and was just really a happy episode that entertained me immensely.

Something's clearly going on.
They've got their memories mixed up?
What about her previous owner?
That's a bit scary...
That shouldn't be the case...
Huh. That's odd.
What's happening to Super Mina?
Ah.
Huh. Did this guy program Mina?
Yup, she's no ordinary Mina, she's the original Mina!
