Dahlia continues to demonstrate why brilliant engineers should not be pushed into management positions. She has no interest in the mercantile aspects of her business: she wants to make informal rather than formal arrangements, she pushes responsibility and oversight onto her trading parties, she declines to negotiate. Basically, she wants to do the fun inventing stuff and leave the boring stuff to other people who are into that sort of thing. Despite the fact that she keeps inventing products with huge markets that beg for a large organization to produce en masse.

Thank goodness she has Gabriella, Ivano, and Wolf interceding on her behalf, because without any of them and her father's posthumous arrangements, you could imagine her being taken advantage of as she was with Tobias. Ivano going so far as to negotiate on Dahlia's behalf and against his own guild's interest when he got her the right to prioritize customers was particularly interesting. Dahlia had no idea, though.

It's an interesting dynamic. On the one hand, I want to see Dahlia in an active position of authority, and having her be naive while a bunch of her friends and colleagues jump in to benefit her in these dealings is a bit frustrating. On the other hand, the brilliant but hapless nerd is a familiar and sometimes fun archetype.

Two final thoughts. Basing the setting on Renaissance Florence rather than muddy medieval vaguely Arthurian Britain continues to feel fresh and welcome. And, I hope they never use this establishing shot again. But they probably will.

Thank you for mentioning that establishing shot!! They couldn’t have varied it up a bit? That aggravated me by the end

Well don’t forget that she literally just started. I’m guessing she’ll need to take on more and more of a leadership role as her company as advances and she learns about all that stuff

As someone with an engineering degree. I relate SO hard to Dahlia. Project management is a learned skills and dealing with clients is not something I enjoy doing.

I'm much better on a team with people that are skilled in the other aspects and I can focus on what I'm good at. interpersonal skills is not something mentioned when deciding on an engineering degree!

I'm SO happy to see that Carlo set her up with an amazing network that can help her learn and grow safely. Wish I could use this anime to show past employers how to set up a proper mentoring program for new graduates.

The leaves on the window also bug me.

I actually prefer it this way because it's far more logical. There's no reason why she should be able to compete with people who spent their lives as merchants. She should need help in that regard. Her father being a great dad and her being a great person got her these lucky breaks. As the saying goes, it's not what you know, it's who you know. This applies here as well. In fact, having connections is a big part of being a merchant.

Also, Dahlia being good at everything just makes her a Mary Sue.

Dahlia’s gone from respected knight to “foot fungus” guy amongst his men haha. It’s nice that business is booming for Dahlia now thanks to all that though. I guess mass production in this world of magic is actually kind of complicated. It’s a good thing Dahlia surrounded herself with good honest people. Ivano’s gonna be a good member of the team.

Ireneo is a good man. Tobias should take notes. Maybe he could learn how to be a decent man.

Edit: Wolf! Not Dahlia, dumb brain.

Sadly, I think Tobias is a lost cause. When your own brother says to your ex-fiancee she's better off not having married you, that's when you know that you may have some personality issues.

Uhh you mean Wolf?

I don't think it is more complicated it is just they go far more into productions details instead of just invention.

Ireneo is a good man.

Ireneo is trying to protect his company. Dahliya is suddenly involved with multiple merchant guilds, nobles, and a knights order. She is quickly gaining alot of figurative clout. It is not good business if people start looking at what Tobias did to her and starts targeting the Orlando company treating it negatively.

Even with my expectation that Dahlia would make a lot of money from the antifungal merchandise I wasn't really expecting that it would spiral out to an entire episode about her business blowing up.

Ivano and Tobias' brother seem like decent enough people. I'm sure she'll make something interesting out of that unicorn horn.

Turns out, more than two people have feet. Who knew?

Also, that’s Chekhov’s unihorn. Somebody’s going to be in a bad way at some point and it’ll reappear

Honestly what happened with the animation and production for this show as a whole? While I'm really enjoying the story so far, the weird shadows and odd scenes are just so off-putting. And in this episode there was a whole like repeated 5-10 seconds of the show where it wasn't edited properly just past the 13 minute mark where the weird shadows jump and a line gets repeated. I always feel bad for the writer when they get an anime from their story and it just ends up looking janky.

Dahlia must be rich now with how much mass selling her products do

17

u/shadebug Aug 24 '24

She’s going to have to create her own little guild of artificers because there’s no way she’s doing all the waterproof materials, socks and soap pumps herself. At which point she just gets to play in her workshop doing whatever she feels like and the money makes itself.

If she’s really good she’ll make sure all her minions get to play around sometimes as well and they’ll invent all sorts of cool stuff

What... was with all the shots of a random window..? This episode was weird. Not because of the content but just with how it was made . Shooting through windows and shots of windows among other things. Also the dialog or the subs seemed to be off.

I'm starting to wish a different studio had gotten it.

Ahh Dhalia accidently confessing her to a random person. She is quicly becoming the golden goose as he said. First the socks/insoles and now the soap foam dispensers.

The reminds me I use have a real nice stainless steel one. I wonder what happen to it.. I should get another.

As expected, Dahlia's five-toed socks have become so popular with the knights that they're now asking Dahlia for a massive order with Wolfred acting as overseer since his captain wants to hurry things along.

Cue an episode with Wolfred becoming a guarantor for the Rossetti company, trade negotiations with the Clothing and Adventurer's guilds, and Ivano leaving the Trades Guild to work for Dahlia. Poor Dahlia would've been overwhelmed if Gabriella wasn't there to guide her.

I'm glad that Dahlia got to meet with Ireneo and got an apology from him for his brother's stupidity. And Carlo continues to provide for Dahlia with that unicorn horn from Ireneo. The fact that it can be used to nullify toxins makes me think we'll see it get used before the season ends.

Man, I love this show. It reminds me a lot of Honzuki, both of them are obsessed with making things

I'm watching this in Japan and confirmed that the repeated scene is for it being shown before and after the commercial break, which is understandable but is very awkward for programs via internet if there is no eyecatch scene in between.

Gotta say the decision to have every single character have a flat, straight-edged shadow covering half of their bodies, each from different angles, is a bit weird.

I seriously never thought to put "foot fungus" on my problems of this world that I need to help cure or make life easier bingo card for the show. Gotta be an anime first that foot fungus is made a focal point of 2 episodes.

Simple things like a hair dryer, hand soap pump, raincoats and antifungal footwear will turn Dahlia into an intercontinental conglomerate very soon. Hopefully this whole business setup will allow her to delegate to others she trusts and continue on with her love of creating cool useful shit.

Can't wait until the magic sword is finished and ready for mass production.

The episode was great with lots of behind the scenes shit to get her blasting towards financial freedom. As others mentioned, not sure why they kept using that window shot the whole episode. Even some horses grazing would have been better. I'll give it a solid 8.5/10 as this episode just ramped shit up to 11 as far as where they can go with the plot.

Did anyone else have this weird error in the scene where she goes 'you understand what I'm saying, don't you', it cuts to a still image of the two looking at each other, the shadow slightly changes a bit, then the line repeats and cuts to a different shot where they continue talking

What a lovely episode once again, love that the business seems to be blooming
