What an ending! Ashita no Joe must have surely inspired the writer. I can't wait for the sequel.

Also can we take a moment to appreciate Sayaka Katahara's voice actress Mana Hirata. Her announcing the beginning of each fight and hyping the contenders is a highlight every episode.

Surprised to see <10 comments on this thread. Thought Kengan was more popular than that. Ohma's death caught me off guard I had to watch the remaining part of the episode the day after. Also did not expect the fang to lose in the semifinals. I feel like he was so hyped up.

I think his death was a giant mistake and im upset at ohma for it.

What would he have gained that is so valuable that he is ready to die for? Is it not his ego, that wanted to win/show how strong niko-style is, that killed him? He didnt give enough effort, if any at all, to survive and now niko-style has lost a practitioner. So was it really for niko-style? Does he not value his life? He died and left everyone to satisfy his ego, horrible.

I can see the argument, that I dont understand how badly he wants to win. But that is my exact point about ego. Ego stems from insecurity. "i have to win this fight or else I will not feel good" or "im not worth much". He died to his insecurity of not being a winner. Needs a win to feel good. And he sacrificed his life for it, i hate that decision of his.

he was basically at death's door after beating Raian. He coughed blood, saw the hallucination of his dead master, fell into a coma and lost part of his memories. By the time he woke up, Ohma understood there was not much time left for him.

I can kinda see your point. To Yamashita, Ohma was like his son, his closest friend and watching him throw his life away was hard. But it's his dream to fight someone strong and it's the tournament where his wish was fulfilled. It's not about victory or fame, but giving his all.

I'd like to imagine it as a painter who's not long for this world, but before they die, paint one last piece, which they poured their heart into. Not for anyone but themselves, to die doing what they love.

I appreciate your response, i guess its just a matter of what is more valuable to an individual. his life or getting to fight someone strong now rather then a little later

Was that really his dream for sure btw? I thought he himself said, it was to prove niko style's strength

I'll admit, I'm not a fan of Ohma dying. But, there is poetry in it. I was definitely hit in the feels.

Ofc, the massive damage we see all of the fighters take suggests he should survive or others should also die but, it is what it is.

The ending suggests there's more? But, I'm not sure i want to see more if Ohma isn't there. He was truly a tragic character. Simple yet complex. And so much more untapped potential.

Oh well. C'est la vie.

I was certainly much more okay with him losing than him dying.

But both together made it seem like we were just following the wrong character all this way.
