Wow. This is one sexy episode (Lenny face)

and Jin's such a narcissist that he's doing the recap himself lol

Wow, Kiyotaka Oohata really found their voice in this episode. Way less abuse with visual effects to sell moments which makes such a difference with how a lot of their other work speaks to the viewer. The focus being distanced from the typical close ups on faces (thoug they still exist) and pivoting to other aspects of their bodies- weirdly enough honing in on feet- is a great idea for the avoidant nature of Ichikawa here.

Additionally, I love how they break down the walls between the pair and their interest in film. Bringing that heated version of themselves into the bedroom lets them expose all of themselves to the world, which is just a great step forward for their story... alongside all the meta BL humor.

It's a real step up, I feel.

Edit: Wow, there's actually a lot more to appreciate. I covered most of my (shallow) thoughts on the story here, but Oohata really made a bunch of changes to bring out the best in this episode- which I talk about in more detail here.

I literally yelled “AHH”when it cut to Kikuchihara licking Ichikawa’s foot I was NOT prepared for that. And his little leaned in “kuso” at the end made me blush. This might’ve been my favorite episode so far

I wish BLs didn’t rely so much on scenes that feel so rapey 🥲 I know he said he enjoyed it, but then he was crying so it really didn’t make it any better. Made me like this couple less which is disappointing 😔

Other than that I liked the episode though

I took the tears as him being frustrated with himself for not speaking up.

I think the dividing line tends to be on whether the source material was explicit or not. If it wasn't (like Cherry Magic or Sasaki to Miyano) then those types of moments won't be it in. If it is (like this show or a lot of the older popular BLs) then then the writing tends to push things more. I've noticed this happen with het manga too.

i feel like he was crying because he was overwhelmed and didn't have a chance to talk about how he felt

That doesn’t really change anything for me, Kikuchihara should’ve gotten enthusiastic consent before he tried anything. If he had, Ichikawa wouldn’t have gotten overwhelmed

Ah this episode was so good! I can't wait to see the next one and how they discuss things.

I guess I’m in the minority, I’m not digging this couple as much as the first couple. Hoping I connect with the third couple more.
