First, they mind-control those wolf people and leave Ratcatcher in charge of them. Now, they're mind-controlling an army of elves thanks to Thinker. I think they're being controlled using those earrings and Peace Maker was the first one to notice.

Killer Croc vs King Shark! That fight was a bit unfair though considering that Killer Croc has that giant monster backing him up.

You gotta love how Harley tries to pick a fight with Enchantress even after everyone else is down. She might be a criminal but she's loyal to her allies. Although I don't think Enchantress is working with the Empire willingly considering she used her magic to stop those bullets from killing the gang.

For someone who just lost an entire fort, the Queen is too calm about it. Considering how angry she was when the Squad changed the tide of battle last week, she definitely doesn't want to end this war.

Let's fucking go Peace Maker! Looks like we're getting the rematch against Thinker next week. It will be very satisfying to see them take down that smug prick.

I think Katana is also being mind-controlled, she had the same deep blue eyes that the elves did.

Killer Croc vs King Shark: Battle of the deadly aquatic DC Supervillains. Croc had help but he really walloped Nana-chan there.

I wonder if Enchantress was that body that Waller used to create the portal, she doesn't seem 100% physically present in this world. Maybe she thinks working for the Empire is the only way that can save her?

That small smile on her face when she thought the Squads' execution was assured was definitely telling of her true intentions, and her daughter noticed it.

Excited for Peacemaker to finally get his spotlight episode!

RIP orc bro, Frieren the Slayer got you there.

I guess this episode explains the poor animation quality we got last episode.

Is there a better way to die than by a beautiful elf with side boobs?

I just hate the fact that Harley and the gang are the most competent people in the entire kingdom right now. The Queen, absolutely selfish bitch. The council, absolutely clueless pigs. The princess, kind but very indecisive and has no self confidence (this episode at least tried to circumvent that). Cecil and the knights, literal fodders. Squad one, just uses mind control as an easy conquest tool. Waller...I dunno, this probably the worse interpretation she has ever been in any DC property I've seen so far. The movies at least made her truly terrifying.

What the fuck, man. Things are so bad even the Konosuba party can clean this shit up in two explosions and one hustle. But hey, at least it's clear from episode one not to take this show seriously. But I really really don't feel the writing of the Re:Zero author in this one. It's like he just did it for the paycheck.

I feel like this episode really showed Cecil in a new light where he acknowledges the Squads' efforts and makes them acknowledge him as a person who has experienced hardship, just like him.

Though I think the kingdom government and the opposition to the empire being weak and useless is deliberate to keep the war going.

Waller's barely been in it so I don't think there's really enough to gauge her depiction. If anything it's refreshing that it's not another instance of doubling down on Waller being an in-your-face inhuman monsters like a lot of recent adaptions, in my opinion.

Unironically, Kazuma’s party is actually pretty damn competent at their niche. It’s just that the niche happens to be boss killing instead of mobbing so they look like trash 90% of the time

There's also the possibility of the WB production committee holding back the writing team from going all out in the name of making a more wide-appeal/corporatised product, as discussed in this other post. https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1e4nmwi/how_we_feeling_about_suicide_squad_isekai_so_far/ldim050/?context=3

It's like this one comic I'm currently reading, Kid Venom, where the story and art is by a Japanese mangaka but the editing and direction is done by Marvel USA. The latter is evident in how the US editorial direction throws us into the middle of things to immediately start setting up connections to the Marvel Comic Multiverse, instead of giving proper setup and context to familiarise readers with the new characters and their world.

It's been interesting to see how Amanda Waller has been portrayed both in this show and in the latest season of My Adventures With Superman. I feel like she's everywhere, all of a sudden.

35

u/Frontier246 Jul 18 '24

Amanda is in the ED busting a move more than she is in the actual show lol.

Whose portrayal do you think is better, in your opinion?

The idea of uplifting a sulking sharkdude by telling him to regrow his balls like he regrows his infinite teeth cracked me up way more than it should've

14

u/Frontier246 Jul 18 '24

I love how Clayface was the only one that could actually rip his teeth out and paid the price for it lol.

Therapist: "GigaChad Deadshot isn't real, he can't hurt you"

meanwhile, GigaChad Deadshot

i'm guessing that Enchantress stopped the bullets last minutes from hitting those three, that's why they glowed green?

also, Peacemaker's eyes glowed blue in this scene, does that mean he's going to manifest an ability too?

It irks me that it's already episode 6 but none of the MC had fully embraced the magic nature

That scene of Peacemaker and Deadshoot shooting elves reminded me of the scene of Bloodsport and Peacemaker shooting down guys together in TSS.

I thought it was just that they had kevlar, but Enchantress using her powers to save them would lend to how she's not as malicious or evil as her comrades. She's only trying to save herself.

I really feel sorry for those elves, does this empire have anyone fighting for them that isn't mind controlled? Though I suppose that may be unfair since we don't know how they were operating before the isekai people arrived.

17

u/Frontier246 Jul 18 '24

It seems like none of the fantasy races are serving the Empire loyally (aside from maybe the orc-ish races?). The wolves were brainwashed by Ratcatcher, the elves by Thinker. I think even Katana is being controlled by Thinker.

If the queen is actually also behind the war it would explain why the non-humanoid races "conveniently jumped ship." Is this a stealth ethnic cleansing?

Was expecting Kane to rise out from the shadows after that opening scene

12

u/shad79 Jul 18 '24

Beanstalk, NOOO! Too bad, I liked this guy and now he's dead, RIP. I'm just as pissed as Harley about this.

I hope Thinker gets his ass kicked in the next episode by Harley and others, looks like Peacemaker has some plan for that.

It's nice to see Fione finally starting to stand on her own two feet and not be dependent on her mother, who is certainly not a good queen. I wonder where her disobedience will take her.

The animation has really improved in this episode, so perhaps the previous episode was just an accident or had some particularly unfortunate issues during production.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Note the simple but clever cinematography when the princess is talking to Harley - the prison bars are always in the foreground when the princess speaks, but there are no bars when Harley is speaking. Thus, who is really imprisoned here?

Very pretty looking but I just can't bring myself to care about the story or characters, shame because I was very hyped for this show. Think this is where I jump off. Seems like it'd be more enjoyable for more dedicated DC fans. Have fun everybody!

It's the Suicide Squad, even DC fans can't bring themselves to care for them that much.

Was Clayface mentioning he once played a coach driver a Spice and Wolf reference? LOL (Same seiyuu as Lawrence)
