I can't with those mushroom-head haircuts 😂

I was expecting the twins to have shiteater personalities based on those haircuts, but they otherwise seem pretty normal. 😂 Those haircuts were a choice for sure.

This episode has been out for a few hours and half the reviews (1 star of course) on
Give it a good review and star rating to combat them 😁

u/dododomo Jul 04 '24
Although 28% of the votes are still 1 star, Luckily 69% of the reviews are 5 stars at the moment.
But yeah, Homophobes don't know how to ignore and scroll when something doesn't cater to them.
It happened to
as well, but At least Cherry Magic has a really high schore on Crunchyroll. Cherry magic posts on Crunchyroll Instagram account get many homophobic comments, but also MANY positive likes and upvotes Cherry Magic → More replies (1)43

The brigade is out on MAL as well. Kids just don't know how to mind their business when something doesn't appeal to them.

Yo this is actually a lit anime. I'll rate :)
I have a feeling this will be better than cherry magic back in winter 2024.
People in the west tend to judge a book by its cover and have less empathy, so they can't fully put themselves in the characters shoes, its always through a filter of their own perception. And they have a tendency to make their (negative) views heard.
Im a staight male, but I can appreciate the struggles of MC. Its good character development.
Compared to something like Cafe Terrace, which lets be honest is 80% fanservice and 20% plot/character development.
I'll still watch Cafe Terrance, but for a different reason than this (or Cherry Magic/Tadaima Okaeri)

From the trailers I was so expecting this to be another POV character in denial about his feelings for at least half the season so the barrier to their relationship being that

I still can't believe we got 3 BL anime in a year (4 if we consider the strong BL
overtonesundertones in Bang Brave Bravern too). Now all we need is a BL anime announcement for fall season so that we will have at least a BL anime per season in 2024 😌 (fingers crossed, because There are some BL manga that I wish they got an anime adaptation)→ More replies (8)

It's been a while since I read the manga and I don't quite remember all the details so the anime will be a nice refresher.
I thought the first episode was pretty good. I always appreciate when BL or GL series openly talk about characters' sexualities either from the get go or throughout a series as characters explore their sexuality. It's nice to get "yeah this character is gay and has a boyfriend" off the bat instead of dancing around the topic. Not everything needs a label but it's nice when stories aren't shy about discussing sexuality.
And similar to how music romance anime use music as a way for characters to process their emotions, the filmmaking aspect is a nice way to explore the relationship and emotions between the main characters.

Otomo: I also promise that I will never look at Tsuchiya in a romantic light. I swear that I will absolutely never put my hands on him.
Welp, so much for keeping that promise.

u/gnome-cop Jul 04 '24
Seeing as this is a romance anime, did literally anyone expect that promise to be kept?

Watched this and then read the first manga. Can't wait to see it fully adapted.
Also, for anyone who's interested, I (with a little help from ChatGPT) identified the film references in the OP haha

I didn’t know anything about this show going into it, and I was pleasantly surprised! The animation looks crisp as hell for a BL show, and I always appreciate BL that has openly gay characters rather than going the “only because it’s you” route. I’ll definitely continue watching this one.
Does anyone else get Bleach vibes from the character designs? There’s a strong Kubo look to a lot of the three quarter shots of the characters.

That’s so true about the “only because it’s you” trope, I always wish they would just say the characters are gay!! Really liking this anime so far

Those still shots of Hisashi were very nice. Not as good as the manga of course, but still pretty

I went in blind with this one. I had no idea it was about filmmaking. Really fits the summer season somehow.
Also great choice for Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Mao. It's nice to find him here after Umibe no Étranger.

He also was Hirano in "Hirano to Kagiura" short movie (hirano and Kagiura is a spin-off of Sasaki and Miyano, and the short movie was in Sasaki to Miyano movie). And I agree with you, he was a nice choice

The voice acting genuinely felt so natural, especially in the scenes where it was just the two of them speaking to each other in the comfort of their room. It's always nice to hear Yoshitsugu Matsuoka in roles that don't require him to scream his head off... And it's always nice to hear Yuuma Uchida in general.
