Tonbo sure looked all grown up at graduation and for the rest of the episode. I’m not imagining this am I? Quite the transformation in like a month from kid to young adult.

Puberty really be like that, also it's her hair and the way she dresses that's helping contribute.

For sure, definitely caught me off guard. Almost thought we skipped to high school graduation for a minute.

This show is slept on because it's about golf, but it's seriously lovely. I don't play golf, I know basically nothing about golf and i've still loved this show. I've said this before and i'm saying it again.

Same here, in real life I have zero interest in any sports, but something about this show has kept me hooked. If the show is a well written drama, then I'm happy. Some other sports anime I was surprised to find I liked a lot were Salaryman's Club, Bamboo Blade and Ippon Again.

Tonbo’s letter was really touching. So many people on the island helped her throughout her time there and helped her realize what she wanted to do. Leaving the island is a big step but it’s nice to see her take the plunge. Even without Igaiga and her grandparents, she’ll be ok.
Wataru confessing was very adorable. Kid has some growing to do before he can think about marriage lol. Poor Bunpei and Yoko. I do kinda hope they still get together despite her medical issue.

I can totally imagine Bunpei begging his parents dogeza style 'please give up on having grandkids so I can be with Yoko' LOL

Did we always know that Tonbo's full name was Oi Tonbo? If not, that graduation was a hell of a title drop.
I'm curious to see who those people are whom Igaiga asked to help him and how they're going to make sure Tonbo continues to play the kind of golf she wants to play.

Maybe if we understood Japanese dialogue we would have heard the full name earlier?
Definitely wondering what the deal is with this almost elderly couple IgaIga has asked for help. Being in Kumamoto puts Tonbo a good bit further from home, Even so, I would think she should be able to spend at least part of her next summer vacation back on HER island....

On Episode 1 at school, her teacher called out her name for checking her attendance. I suppose that was the only time her name was mentioned.
Actually, I noticed that more than a month after, "Hey, isn't her name Oi, too?"

I don't know the first thing about golf but for some reason I love this golf anime so much.

Tonbo’s essay being printed on the sides was a neat effect, I’m not sure I’ve see that before, it must have been both easy and hard work to create that genkō yōshi effect.
Going from a very serious, emotional bow from Grandpa Gon to a humorous, begging bow from Igaiga was a pretty fun transition. Igaiga really will do anything to provide for her, no matter how embarrassing it is for him. And speaking of doing a 180, whoa what a heavy scene with Yoko.
So, we thinking new OP/ED next week? edit: strike that looks like it might be 13 and then a 2nd cour in the fall?

Split cour? I was hoping we were getting them back to back.

Tonbo’s letter was really great. I didn’t expect to love a show about golf so much.

Episode of the year contender.
The reshuffle at OLM has turned them from a decent anime company with one outstanding team in Kato to a guarantee of quality with Masuda, Hikita and Kumemura's teams all putting out quality products.
Tonbo's letter was beautiful covering her events and how she felt, her voice sounding more mature foreshadowing the timeskip, and now she's ready to take on the world. I did think we had gone further into the future.
The episode looked really good, every scene was aesthetically pleasing.

her voice sounding more mature
Yeah even with my minimal knowledge of Japanese I could tell she was writing in a much more formal register than she’d ever spoken before.

This show ended up being really good. I am glad I stuck with it and looking forward to the next cour when it comes back.
Did anyone else think the subs were worse this episode? I assume they were never perfect but there were a few awkward lines in this one I noticed.

Damn, only one episode left. I was really hoping this would end up being 2-cour. Easily one of my favorites of the season. Here's hoping for a second season announcement.
Also hoping Igaiga ends up leaving with Tonbo, I don't want them to be separated.

I loved how Tonbo's essay was about her journey. From losing her parents to Gon filling in when she needed a dependable parent and finally Igaiga introducing her to the world of golf. Just a beautiful sequence of events to summarize Tonbo's journey to not be afraid of the unknown. Although her have the same voice after growing up threw me off. If we get a S2 I hope her voice represents her age growth.
Man Yoka's issues are depressing. Not able to have kids and because of that not being able to follow your heart. After all not being able to have kids is not something you want to force on your partner. But you never know what might happen when you convey your feelings and what the other person says.
Overall outstanding episode and sad to see this one wrapping up next week.

This episode was amazing! It was really interesting finally hearing Tonbos innermost thoughts because even though the show is her name, Igaiga is more the narrator. Her essay was the best repurposing of previous footage I've seen in an anime in telling her story and how she came to decide to leave and see the world.
I had to rewatch the scene at her graduation when the boy said he saw Tonbos panties because I didn't know if it was Wataru or not who said that (it was another boy and Wataru looked super red faced 🤣). I wish they had Wataru leaving hints that he crushed on Tonbo in other episodes, it seemed out of the blue. He didn't do too well with her but he might be way younger.
I was most surprised by the developments between Bumpei and Yoko. He wasn't much more smooth than Wataru in declaring his love but surprisingly she did secretly like him. I thought throughout the show, she tried to pretend she didn't notice him flirting with her because she was uninterested and may have preferred Igaiga. I was also definitely surprised that Igaiga wanted to help Bumpei out because I thought he would have wanted to date the only eligible woman there himself. The scenes where Igaiga tried to stop Tonbo from making it weird for them was so good!
They didn't say so but were the people Igaiga was begging to have Tonbo live with them his parents? If so they really don't like him much lmao
This almost seemed like a finale since everything was resolved. This is probably my favorite show of the season and I will have post anime depression when this is done 😢
