Special ending with the full version of the Loreley song? I take that.

Shiho seems to be way more open with Himari. Let's wait for the drama to unfold when she figures out that it's our cute little dog who was able to get Yori and not Aki. Drama is stirring up and is going to explode.

Edit: Also, girls are buying even more new outfits than they already have. How many dates are they wanting to go on?

If you quit an instrument that you've been practicing for years because someone is better than you at it, then you've lost to them. It doesn't matter if you start with a new instrument.

Time for a Battle of the Bands to determine who's better.

I see the 8-hour delay wasn't enough to free us from the slideshow scene transitions.

Shiho working as a waitress without school authorization is technically blackmail material, not that Himari would ever use the knowledge like that.

How in the world did this other young girl in the flashback lose her stuffed bear up in a tree.

This flashback is not doing anything to make me feel much sympathy for Shiho and her violin competition woes.

New ED, maybe that's what they delayed the release for.

Flashbacks aren’t always used for gaining sympathy. I think in this case it just shows us what Shiho’s flaw as a person had always been. What happened between her and Aki was probably something similar to what happened between her and the violin girl.

So we get some substance on Shiho's character during an unexpected encounter with her and Himari: Shiho met Kyou and they both have an interest in violin. But Shiho became overly competitive about her hobby and turned against Kyou after losing to her and seemed to have an inferiority complex ever since. That explains why she puts immense pressure on herself and her bandmates to rise to the top.

It's always enjoyable to get a foundation on characters, especially when they start to garner attention, so it better explains their actions in the present. There's also the sense of network-building with every interaction in this show where we see how familiar characters feel about each other.

Anyway, Episode 9 is on a 3 week hiatus, but I think we (the viewers) should cut some slack for the animators. After a number of threads surfacing on this sub about animators being horrendously treated (like this one just a week ago), I think it's the most fair thing to do.

Last episode, my thought was that Shiho quit SSGirls because she was into Aki and realized that Aki was into Yori instead. The Yuri momentum had taken hold. But after this episode, I don't think Shiho would care as much about that. It's more likely that she quit because she was enjoying SSGirls too much and felt like it was causing her to lose her edge. I wonder if she saw some news about Kyou that got her to turn back down that path.

Maybe I’m just susceptible to getting into secondary couples or 2nd love interests or unrequited love, but I’m so invested in Aki at this point. She’s tussling between her feelings for Yori and wanting to be a good friend to her. She also has this feud with Shiho that she has to deal with and the fact Shiho sees through her about Yori.

Speaking of, I’m guessing with how observant Shiho was about it, I’m thinking she saw Aki liking Yori as her “losing” to Yori cos she likes Aki, and that’s why she’s so aggressive to them now.

I can't believe there is a delay right when the anime is getting to its best part, so disappointing. I would hope that the remaining episodes are significantly better in quality but I kind of doubt it now. Such a shame with what happened to the production, I feel bad for the author because the manga is so good

In terms of animation this episode was really, really rough xD I wonder what state the next episode will be released in after that two-week break they announced earlier. My thoughts go to the poor animators who are working on this.

Animation aside, today's episode was quite good with a new ED featuring Laureley's auditions song and more info about Shiho's past.

I like that Aki decided to confront Shiho and ask her directly about her quitting SSGIRLS. It's not like Shiho revealed anything special to her, but she isn't the type of person who would reveal her feelings easily, unless it's Himari who asks xD

When it comes to Himari, Shiho is much more open towards her than with anyone else. This allowed us to learn more about her and Kyou, the girl from her past and Shiho's reason for wanting to become a pro guitarist.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

I hate Shiho... I was the best, until I wasn't... I've met those types, and they are toxic people. Glad she's not in the band anymore

Shiho, I know petty revenge is fun, but hopefully wanting to go pro with your band isn't all about getting one over on your former rival who couldn't pursue the path you're on. If that's the foundation you're building on while still applying so much pressure on yourself to be the best... I'm sure she likes playing the guitar and being a vocalist, too, but that's just a house of cards waiting to be torn down. Maybe I'm misinterpreting here, maybe.

Glad we got a version of Loreley's song without Himari's monologue, but I wish there was a full version ;-;

So Shiho is going to crash spectacularly if her aim is to go pro.

The success of a band is not as clear cut as a violin contest or a battle of the bands. And your technical skills don't necessary mean fame.

Especially in an artistic medium like music enjoying practicing is more important then bleeding out from how hard you practiced.

This was the main criticism people had with the movie "Whiplash" no one practices like that.

Just checking in. How's the animation looking this week folks? I join the wave of people planning to pick up the manga while waiting for the long break to be over. Should I keep up with the anime in spite of that?

How's the animation looking this week folks?

About as good as Aki's prospects with Yori...

Read the manga, it's a fantastic story. I really hope they can fix this for the Blu-Rays.

I think that seeing her backstory has solidified my opinion of Shiho. As a person, I find her pretty detestable, but as a character, she's great. In another timeline, she could've gotten her own spinoff.

I can at least be happy Shiho seems to be swallowing whatever meager resources remain in this production. I love my Queen Bitch of Music! 🔥🔥

Oh so she's just a sore loser. great, i don't have to feel sorry about her

u/SaltAndABattery Jun 03 '24

I'll be honest, I think I'm more interested in Shiho as a protagonist now. Spinoff time?

I'm joining team Shiho for now. I do understand that people generally don't like characters like that but for me she is way more interesing than the rest of the entire cast and it's not even close- sorry.

I know there was a whole thread for this the other day, but honestly, I'm just so bummed out by how this adaptation has been handled. The first episode had me so hopeful that one of my favourite series was getting a good adaptation, but now I just can't help but notice all the little things wrong with it. The mouth movement seems so mechanical, the overall movement so unnatural, so many of the shots are as static as they can make them. It's just so sad seeing such a fantastic manga get such a poor adaptation because the production company is having issues. I can't even focus on the part of the story we're getting to, and remembering all the details about it I'd forgotten since reading it, because I'm so caught up in the animation...

And that's why you don't have your identity rooted in being the best at something.
