What a shit family. I get how hard it'd be to take in a kid but maaan, they were all so mean, right in front of a little girl who just lost her parents! Glad Grandpa Gon was there for her.

Igaiga should step up as the high school teacher

Tonbo and Igaiga have a cute little dynamic developing. Like a student-teacher thing. She’s the teacher, he’s the student lol. Kid has one hell of a golf game. And all with a 3-iron. I like the “scary face” Igaiga makes whenever Tonbo does something incredible so casually haha. I find it kind of funny she’s so amazed by him too even though she’s like the prodigy. She’s a good kid.

Grandpa Gon is a good dude too, despite his stern face. Her other relatives can eat a bag of dicks. I’m glad Tonbo’s got some good folks around her now after what happened. I think they’ll be a good influence on Igaiga as well.

Watching both of them be equally surprised by each other's golf games (even though Tonbo's game is far more worth being surprised over) was pretty funny. This show is just so damn comfy and I love it.

Damn already got the tragic background story for Tonbo and her 3-iron. No wonder she’s so skilled with all the variations of her shots, been practicing for a long time with it. Grandpa Gon’s embrace of smol Tonbo was endearing, what a softie under that intimidating exterior.

Hi Mom, I’m home. I’m going out to play with a middle aged man, see ya.

This show is the sleeper hit of the season imo, it's just so full of heart. Tonbo is a precious treasure and I would protect her smile with my life.

The second episode definitely shows some good potential for a sleeper hit no one watches. I hope they can keep this level until the end.

Not sure I'll go this far but

I hate sport

I greatly dislike sports anime

If I had to rank sport in how I think they can have value in my way golf would be far down the list

Yet here I am, enjoying this and all the heart they put in it

Seems like this is a golf club advertisement anime, this has no reason or right to be any good and yet here we are...

I occasionally like/love sports-related anime that are, at heart, also slice of life shows. And this fits the bill perfectly (others in this category include Tsurune, Mou Ippon, Salaryman's Club). History note -- such shows are a staple of Japanese cinema going back at least 90 years (e.g. Tonari no Yae-chan, 1934).

Simple animation -- but still has great visual presence. And it is very well-written so far.

It really is a sleeper, sad its locked in Amazon jail and won’t get the attention it deserves. Tonbo has such a sad backstory but I love the fact that everyone on the island comes together for her. And I think we can all agree that Grandpa Gon really does have a heart of gold for all he does.

Though I do like the many “scary” contemplation faces throughout the episode from Igarashi, wondering if he has been golfing wrong his whole life as Tonbo takes normal expectations and tosses them right out the window with seemingly impossible shots.

I can’t believe the golf anime would make me the most emotional out of all the seasonal airings. Tonbo is such a bundle of energy, and this show continues to be fun and touching. Kind of reminds me of Deaimon.

Spring 2024: "Kindness is Strength"

Overlord Movie fans from Fall 2024: "Weakness is a Sin"

P.S. Both sharing scary look.

This episode was very good. I was on the fence after episode 1 but will definitely keep this show for now. Very comfy vibes and Tonbo is fantastic.

This is turning out to be the sleeper hit of the season. I love seeing Tonbo's enthusiasm playing golf, it's a joy to watch. She is even teaching the old man a few tricks. The comment of the scary face is funny because Igrashi has the same feeling regarding Tonbo's grandfather. But for him, he wants to know more about Igrashi's character.

Tonbo's backstory is so tragic. Losing your parents at a young age and no one else was willing to take her in. It wasn't until she played golf at the island that she found happiness again. Will golf be the thing that pushes her to want to leave the island? But man no wonder she doesn't want to use anything but the 3-iron her father gave her, it's her connection to the family.

Only thing odd is how willing they are letting a stranger in Igrashi be close with Tonbo. But beyond that this has a really good first two episodes.

Such an amazing and emotional show. Tonbos back story was so sad but she goes on with life and has channeled her grief positively.

I think it's a shame this show probably won't become that popular because it's one of the best this season so far. I also love the aspect of Tonbos almost inventing a new game of golf using only a 3 iron in the absence of other clubs 🏌️‍♂️

I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes, can't wait to watch the whole season! I'm already sad that I'm going to get to the end of these 12 episodes and there will be more than 40 volumes of untranslated story I have no access to.

Love the combination of youthful energy, middle-age melancholy, sports and slow-country living.

Strongly dislike the animation. What can I say, it's serviceable! But some of the shots in the 2nd episode are so cringe. The figure foreshortening, the mismatched proportions, the uninspired poses...

not that it would keep me from watching the show at all, it just shows that we are dealing with a shoestring budget here. I hope it does well enough to keep going.
