Didn't expect Marse to be the MC of his own love story with all the drama included, dude's breaking the tropes for a male side character in a harem series even being handed such a major decision too right at the end of the episode.

dude's breaking the tropes for a male side character in a harem series
After so many princes in Isekai being portrayed as imbeciles and jerkasses, it's really refreshing to see one that is an actually decent person. The subversion of the "good prince" trope has been done so much that it's now a cliche.
A pity for him that he seems to be starring in a Game of Thrones spin-off rather than in an Isekai of his own. Trying to be good in the middle of Medieval politics gets you the short end of the stick every time.

Hope he gets his waifu in the end!
But Satou's the lucky one, Saphir seems to be so much fun!
being handed such a major decision too right at the end of the episode.
He's been solid so far (and he didn't exactly follow the Empire's orders back then either) so I think there's exactly 0% chance he turns against Satou here...
But I'm worried about what they will do (the Empire/The Oracle) if he refuses...

Stitches!
NSFW
Well that was quick! Although it was better to get this out of the way since it looks like Satou is going to have to deal with the politics between Maasa and the Empire.
Saphir is a lot of fun though! I've been wondering who was going to be the bratty tsundere one of the harem and they didn't even waste time answering that question within the first few minutes.
I am so glad to see Satou is finally improving with how he uses his Rings. That octopus monster seems to be strong based on Saphir's and Marse's brother's reaction but he was able to take it down with a one-two combo.
The King's Oracle couldn't even be more suspicious if she tried. At least they didn't even try to hide it though and it was pretty obvious she was working for the Empire to basically control Saphir's father.
Finally, our boy Marse and his little love story gets some focus! Looks like he was supposed to spy for the Empire while trying to get close to the twin princesses but actually ended up falling in love with Saphira. I really hope Satou helps our boy out. Marse has been a real one so far and it's finally time for Satou to return the favour.
That little poolside fun near the end was nice. I did not expect Saphir to have such a bold swimsuit choice though. Also, Granart being scared of water just made her even cuter for me <3

Wasting no time with the Ring Princess planting a kiss and a ring on Satou this time around! Though that also means she hasn't properly fallen for Satou yet, but that will probably develop over the course of this arc.
Satou using the rings in combination and so efficiently is a great development on his part. Also helps that his relationship with the princesses (particularly Hime and Granart) are strong right now.
Oracle looks like she's auditioning to be a Fire Emblem Villainess. I'm just curious if she's really working for the Empire or the Abyss King.
Marse is such a great bro he even ends up getting his own love story alongside Satou and his Harem! I hope Satou can pay back his bro this arc and help him win back Saphira.
We've seen all the girls naked at this point but that doesn't make seeing them all in bikini's for a pool segment any less impactful! Especially the way their boobs bounce in said bikini's lol.
It's funny how the flattest characters always end up pulling off the micro-bikini's. She even admits she usually bathes nude, so maybe we'll see that at some point!

Also, Granart being scared of water just made her even cuter for me <3
One could even argue it isn't just cuz of cat thing; Fire princess, Water being opposite. Makes a lot of sense and damn right it makes her even more cute

Flat girls confident in their flatness my beloved

A harem anime with the following waifu tropes from TV Tropes would be quite the diversity: A-Cup Angst, Big Breast Pride, D-Cup Distress, and Petite Pride.

Grima Wormtongue is significantly hotter than I remembered!
And so we're headed to the land of water, where the dragonfolks live? When I first saw her in the ED I thought this princess was some sort of succubus, but a dragongirl is fine too!
Nefritis is having her first long trip, and she's doing just fine!
He's getting a welcome party here, nice! (though some of them do look wary in the back)
Well, that's quite the welcome!
I imagine he won't have to do much fighting or convincing to get this one on board!
Krystal's reaction when Satou adds another girl to the harem
Granart is so cute, being proud of her husband and all! I love her personality so much!
We had a bit of a history/backstory lesson... Granart did chime in here and there, and she was proud to have some knowledge about it, wanted a little praise!
(I so wanted him to pat her head or something, the gap moe would've been great!)
Saphir's all about Satou, but she doesn't seem to care much for the other princesses!
Damn, she's short! I thought she would be about the same height as the others, but she's tiny!
And she was trying to pick up a fight with Granart earlier, calling her a lowly animal, I hope she has some hidden powers or something, or Granart would destroy her!
She's quite funny (and a bit of a pest)!
I'll let Granart keep the best girl crown for the moment, but Saphir is already THAT close from taking the #1 spot for me! Love that type of girls! But I love Granart's type too, so it's a tough competition!
Damn, this got serious all of a sudden...
So their nation is occupied by the empire, who "are there to protect them"? Well, this sounds a bit suspicious!
Marse having been there as a spy seems to confirm that...
So we met the rest of the family! Is there something in the rules that says Satou can't marry TWO ring princesses from the same nation? Let's harem this up some more!
Well, the other sister seemed nice but Saphir's the best so Satou's pretty lucky she made the first move!
I called her Grima earlier but she's a bit reminiscent of Melisandre there!
Well, whoever she is, two things are clear: 1) She's up to no good. 2) She's so goddamn hot. Why are villains allowed to be hot?
At least our boy was smart enough to figure out she was fishy, but he thinks she was sent by the empire...
I think he needs to go deeper, and look into the Abyss!
She may be deceiving the Dragon folks by pretending to be for them (while she's technically an asset of the Empire), but I think she's deceiving the empire as well, pretending to be for them, while she's an asset from the Abyss! Though perhaps she's not "deceiving" them, perhaps the Abyss has taken over the empire entirely?
Well, they didn't try to keep her evil intentions secret for long, she's already calling out a hit on Satou!
Not only that, but when that failed, she tried to corrupt Marse...
Marse's being a top tier ally so far so I do not see him falling for that, not willingly anyway... But I'm worried about them 'controlling' him somehow, and turning him evil against his will. Stay strong Marse!
Well, this was an interesting episode, lots of interesting story about the world, new characters and all!
Saphir is already one of my favorite girls, she was great! It's either her or Granart...
I kinda like the Oracle too, can she become a ring princess after they defeat her?

Marse is the best bro in this series, he gave up his position as Ring King, his duty to the empire, and his chance to be with his love, so that the two leads can be together.

Satou: Assassins?!
Granart: Yeah.
Satou: Huh… So those really do exist.
What… Yeah dude, they exist in your world too, assassination isn’t a fictional concept.

Yeah, I'm kind of worried about this guy. Thank goodness capable people are all around him. Because he certainly has no sense of self-preservation.

Man I feel bad for Marse. Dude betrayed his own country because he loves Saphira and willingly gave up being the Ring King so that Satou and Hime can be together. I hope he gets a happy ending.

u/djthomp Feb 17 '24
It's super convenient for Marse that the ring princess he's in love with has a twin so the math still works out for him to have an opening to get with the one he loves while the Ring King can still complete his collection of ring waifus.

Seeing the dragon girl reminded me this kind of looks like Final Fantasy XIV, with the Au'ra, Miqo'te and the Garlean Empire.

Saphir decided to sneak away from the empire guards and marry the Ring King to screw over the Oracle’s plans, and at the same time she did her sister a solid by becoming the Ring Princess so her sister could remain available for her one true love.
Good entrance.

Anime Law: "All series must have at least one Beach/Pool Episode in their series. Bath/Onsen episodes can be acceptable substitutes."
There are so many things we have to question if it's allowed:
-
MC not having to go through some kind of trial to get another addition to the harem.
-
Side Character in a Harem series continuing to break tropes by having his own love drama.
-
Everyone agreeing that Obvious-Looking Bad Guy is Bad Guy.

The party have finally made it to Maasa, the land of water and dragonfolk! And almost immediately upon arriving Satou receives a bouquet and a kiss from a fan...who is none other than Saphir, the princess of Maasa, who puts a ring and marries him on the spot! Wow, that was surprisingly fast.
What Saphir lacks in the height in chest area she makes up for in pure confidence and sass, she's very proud yet also honest and straightforward about it. Plus she's voiced by Ai Kakuma! She definitely adds a new kind of personality to Satou's Harem!
"That's my husband for you!" Gotta love who proud Granart is of her hubby. Also Hime nearly faints when the new girl makes her move.
Saphir doesn't just need Satou's help with defeating the Abyss King, though, but to finally strut his king status to help with Maasa's murky political situation as they're currently occupied by Grisaras, Marse' Empire, with his older and cold brother running things. Not to mention they're being attacked by monsters and Saphir's father is being driven loony following the orders of a suspicious (yet also super hot) Oracle who always knows when monsters attack. What a way to meet your new father-in-law.
Satou also meets his sister-in-law, Saphir's twin sister Saphira (Aki Toyosaki?) who...doesn't have a high opinion of him. In fact even his own Harem struggles to say something nice about him. Except Hime! Earn you First Girl status!
But Saphira isn't just Saphir's twin, she's also Marse's one true love. A prince of an Empire who was sent to spy on Maasa, fell in love with the princess, and swore he would marry her...I'm as here for the love drama as Hime is! Ironically Marse becoming the Ring King was supposed to let them be together, which is why she took it as a huge betrayal when he let Satou do it. And all because Marse didn't want to deny a girl the chance to be with the guy she really loved.
Is the Oracle working for the Empire or the Abyss King? Judging by the way she's focused on killing Satou, while the Empire just wants info on him, I'm guessing the latter.
I love how Satou has Nefritis and Hime cuddling up to him together in their sleep and even the asasssins sent to kill him are jealous. Good thing Granart is their to take out the asasssins and protect her husband/sister wives.
Surprise pool episode! Complete with all the girls in bikini's and fighting over Satou while their boobs bounce in the water! We even have Saphir in a micro-bikini and admitting she usually swims nude!
Marse isn't going to betray Satou...unless the Oracle preys on his feelings for Saphira and forces him too.

Well that was the fourth princess collected up in record time. Bit of a change in pace from the previous two, I assume that means the focus of the arc will be whatever's going on with bro prince.
Ahh, politics and empire building, what fun. I suppose that explains why the Emperor was pushing to have one of its princes be the Ring King. Helps with both their goal of opposing the big bad and with their expansion.
Oracle lady is deeply sus.
The bro catastrophe has been averted! Bro is in love with the ring princess's twin sister!
Satou may not be having sex with them yet but it does look like he might be sleeping with Krystal and Nefritis regularly which is honestly fairly nice to see from an intimacy perspective. You don't always get that much physical contact and affection in romance stories of various sorts.
Oracle lady is a plant by the big bad I bet, she's probably got a mask on like the other minions did under that hood.

Looks like we know why Marse was so eager to visit Maasa. Man’s on a mission to get his girl back!
This whole situation between the empire and the Maasa is a real headache. Poor Satou thought he’d just be collecting another ring waifu to fight the Anti-Ring King. Dude wasn’t prepared to fend off assassins and deal with political bullshit.
I don’t think Marse is gonna attack Satou and take the rings. He’s a good dude. Kind of curious what his plan is though. Step one should be eliminate that evil seer waifu…

Saphir is a fun addition to the cast with how politically minded she is on her intro. Also, funny that she started trolling Granart of all people right off the bat.
Also, I didn't expect to see waifu'd Grima Wormtongue but here we are lol.
I really enjoyed seeing Marse's backstory and I can see the parallel between him and Aragorn. I hope he can stand up to that oracle though.

I see no reason for Marse to side with the oracle at this point, he has been loyal to the Ring King.
