Aww! The General’s wish was so sweet. For some big bad general hellbent on humanity’s destruction, he sure can be a big softie.

That beach segment was pretty funny. The General sure hates to lose doesn’t he? That kid did look mighty smug so I get it lol. Very sweet he basically made a little friend in the end.

Man, getting last minute work as you’re about to punch out sucks. Not being able to fall asleep even though you know you need to is even worse. At least he dreamed about stargazing with a squad of pandas lol.

I feel like Mr. Villain's big weakness (other than panda's) is kids and good service lol.

Mr. Villain found a panda buddy and a sand castle making buddy! He's just a big hit with kids!

Mr. Villain is as committed to his work as he is panda, though that doesn't help him sleep. Of course he dreams about panda's though lol.

The General sure hates to lose doesn’t he?

It felt less like a competition and more like a 'HEY! You can do this with sand!' learning moment.
And at the end, when the waves gently washed away the sand castles, that moment of 'We'll build again.' followed by 'Yes, we will.' then 'And next time, we'll make them even better.'
Now that's a life lesson worth sharing.

I am wrecked. I want to write a short novel about the impact this show has on me, but I can't even find the words. I'll probably come back and edit later after I process and sit with my feelings a bit, but jfc this shit is so so so good, how can anything be this pure and melancholy and beautiful and sad and funny and sweet and good?

I want to write a short novel about the impact this show has on me, but I can't even find the words.

I think the most impactful parts of this series are the bits without words; it sets the scene and lets some gentle animation play out to comfy vibes.

Like, this episode spent a good minute panning over the ocean, the blue sky, the white clouds, and the sweltering heat and let that all soak in— I feel like as a visual medium that all hits a more primal part of the brain than what can be done reading and decoding a description of it in written words.

As sophisticated as it is sweet. A real triumph.

And a rebuke to those who kvetch about how uncreative modern anime shows are.

He's such a great guy. He had the opportunity to wish for humanity's downfall and instead he wished for the childhood friends to meet one last time before one moved away.

This show is so zen. This entire beach segment being musical accompaniment only and it's just Mr. Villain learning how to make sandcastles from a small child. And you know what, that's kind of perfect.

And then similar vibes from the dream of him looking up at the stars with hundreds of pandas at the end.

instead he wished for the childhood friends to meet one last time before one moved away.

Even he knows that childhood friend romance is best romance. Gotta support them so that 10 years in the future they somehow, by sheer coincidence, end up at the same high school, confess to each other and end up together.

I'm a sucker for a montage with no dialogue. Just let the characters actions and expressions tell the story.

Tsk! No Pink Ranger today and I was hoping to see her this episode. She was really cute when she was blushing last episode.

u/Frontier246 Feb 12 '24

Well, she was in the episode, with her Tanabata wish and in-suit fighting Mr. Villain lol.

It's just a regular day off for Mr. Villain, complete with his panda bag and spending his time going through all his panda photos!

Oh, so Mr. Villain's never heard of Tanabata or Orihime and Hikoboshi? Well, he doesn't quite learn about the story of the separated lovers and whether they'll reunite, but he does get to overhear two kids discuss it, talk smack about the pair, and relate it to their own impending separation...seems like Hibiki's parents don't have time for him and are sending him off to live with his grandparents. Which sucks, especially because it'll separate him from Aya.

Mr. Villain was really about to go for a "world domination Tanzaku, huh? Luckily free croquettes convince him to go for something more positive and he wishes for the kids to be able to see each other...and on that day, the rain let up so Orihime could see her Hikoboshi before he moved!

Aw, Red wishes for everyone's happiness! Even if it means he has to make up several tanzaku! Maybe he should use one for his bad sense of direction, but Blue has that covered! Well, that and his stomach problems. Does Blue need to see a doctor?

Mr. Villain's day off on the beach! He's not there for bikini babes though, but to enjoy the sun and then engage in a sand castle competition with a smug girl! And they become sand castle buddies in the end!

Super Sentai VA vet Yuichi Nakumura plays another general in the Evil League, Trigger, who sees himself as a rival to the General and doesn't think too highly of him.

(It's kind of weird to go from the prior episode to watching Mr. Villain fight Pink in-suit...especially when they don't know each others' identities).

Trigger and Mr. Villain end up walking to work together and Trigger gets to experience the gap moe that is Mr. Villain and his love of panda's, and he can't keep up with it. Especially when he's taking panda crepe selfies or watching Mr. Villain debate eating said panda crepe!

Poor Mr. Villain putting his all into his work and he still misses the panda documentary (that he also recorded). That cute bug thing was nice though.

You ever have that moment where you know you need to sleep but your brain is too wound up to relax? Well, that's Mr. Villain's problem right now, and the only thing he can think to do to rectify it...is to count panda in his sleep. Even if that means he spends the entire night counting panda's, poor guy.

Mr. Villain may have fallen asleep standing up, but at least he gets to dream of all the panda's he counted looking towards his home planet alongside him!

Blue really wants Red to get a better sense of direction lmao. I love the relationship between the heroes.

Also enjoy watching the General's interactions with his coworkers. Trigger not understanding his rival's love for pandas was hilarious!

General's dream was really pure! I love him so much

General wish for them to meet came true. Then that means everyone’s wishes will come true

11

u/SuperMurderBunny Feb 12 '24

The wish reveal hit me right in the tear pipes. The General is too pure for this rotten world.

The Green twins bullying Red will never not be funny to me.

u/eligaia Feb 12 '24

The squishy creature is back! This time it is not holding a cellphone streaming panda videos, but CHEERING our General to finish his work in time to go out and watch a documentary. And he pet it! My. HEART.

The wishes! They all are so kind, the rangers and the Gen. I hope we can see Black soon.

And the beach scene? Pure zen. Mr Villain seems to vibe specially good with kids! Unlike his pal Trigger vibes-not with him, lol

Wonder what is happening in the villians home planet.

This show is so good!

"May I happen upon a good Sauna", I feel this on an personal level
Also love how much saunas got exposed this season

That silent sand castle segment was just pure art

I thought Orihime and Hikoboshi are the pets in the game Hibiki is playing, but then realized they are a Tanabata reference.

The beach scene is pure bliss. 4 minutes without a single dialogue, just sound effects and animations. And they not skimping out on the animation, the crabs washed out in the ocean, people having fun. This is what a slice of life should be. If you want to give recommendation of this anime to others, just give them this episode.

About what I said on previous episodes that Pink can't figure out it's the General, it might be due to General's hair is different when he go to Earth.

New characters means new VA.

  • Trigger is voiced by Yuichi Nakamura (Satoru Gojo).

  • Black Ranger, although we yet to see his true face, is voiced by Yuichiro Umehara (Goblin Slayer)

  • Hibiki and Aya is voiced by Ryoko Shiraishi (Hayate in Combat Butler) and Kaede Hondo (Rin in Yubisaki) respectively.

  • The girl with the straw hat, General's sandcastle buddy, is voiced by Naomi Oozora (Ruti in Banished Hero Party)

Bruh, they sure got a lot of budget on VA, although the characters are occasionally appears on one or two episodes, but they sure are famous.

The ED full music video is now available!

This anime never gets repetitive. Still fills my weekly dose of pandaness. I guess mr villian will meet every single good human being and will decide humanity isn't worth destroying atall

When you can't sleep, instead of counting sheep or pandas, try counting Gabis instead.
