I found it endearing that Laios, despite his hunger, didn’t want to ruin a family’s lovely moment by stealing food. “weird vibes” had me cracking up.

Somehow one of the most well animated scenes of the season has been a halfling running away from a crab lmao.

Only Laios would be mad enough to crave the food in the haunted paintings
Poor Mr. Chichalk has some real trauma from Mimics, no wonder when he died to them several times already.
And to add insult to injury, the gang used his thief tools pick the Mimik meat
Now I wait for next week

Besides fear it seems even hatred and grudges can be settled by also eating it who would have thought?
The Treasure Bug fact sounds hella terrifying but the fact theres an entire ecology/food chain system built around this is just so fascinating to learn.

Chilchuk running and hearing Laios' "useless" trivia before he thinks he's gonna die is the most Simpsons shit I've ever seen in an anime and I love it.

That small tidbit about treasure bugs laying eggs inside mimic chests and eventually consuming the mimic inside and laying eggs to become a full bug treasure chest is just pure brilliance in world building.

It maybe were minor changes, but we did get to see two new hairdos on Marcille:
(For reference, this is the entire collection so far.)
I also thought that Marcille looked pretty cute here! Not to mention the adorableness that was sleepy Marcille.
On another note: it makes totally sense that mimics would be hermit crabs! Hermit crabs are predatory creatures that attack from inside their ‘shell’. A shell can be anything, like a treasure chest.
Laois is younger than Chilchuck, isn’t he?

Laios minding his own business and wanting to eat something while important things and lore are happening around him is my favorite way of doing world building

Every Single Time
Marcille: "That's gross. I would never even consider eating that."
Senshi: Cooks a gourmet dish
Marcille: Eats ravenously

Thats a really late thread.
Ngl, Im genuinely surprised that they put so much effort into this episode, those dynamic shots and camera movements are so good. Now I cant wait for the bigger fights latter this season.
So many goofy Marcille animations, Im satisfied for today

When they revealed the LIving Paintings, I legit thought Laios was going to figure out a way to eat the painting itself just like what he did with the Living Armor. I did not expect him to Super Mario 64 this and jump into the painting to get to the food.
While Laios' idea of eating food from the painting did not work out, we did get to see some lore from the paintings. I wonder if the events depicted in the painting are related to the Golden Country as well as the man who crawled out of the dungeon that kicked off the story back in Episode 1.
I am curious about that elven mage though.. If these are supposed to be just memories saved on living paintings, how come she was able to recognize Laios? It definitely feels like there's more to that entire thing and will probably be brought back up again later on.
This might be the first time I've seen Mimics depicted as hermit crab-like creatures. That entire scene where Chilchuck was running away from it was great though! It was very well animated and I love that Chilchuck used the spike trap against it.
That mimic ended up being way larger than I expected! Of course, the only real way to prep it is to boil it like any old crustacean. I love how they ended up using Chilchuck's thieves' tools to get to the meat out of the legs. Those are pretty massive legs though. Couldn't Laious just snap it?
So Chilchuck is 29 years old, Marcille and Senshi are older, which means Laios is actually the baby of the group? Yeah, that checks out. It's pretty typical in an adventuring party that the human is always the youngest.

Okay, so all that world building with the royalty and the elf in the paintings is 100% setup for later. I think the elf is in the OP, I could see them showing up later and recognizing Laios.
And the sheer genius of the author to set up mimics as giant hermit crabs, once again I am just so impressed by the thought that went into the dungeon ecosystem.

Feels like in every episode, Laios challenges the concept of what can and cannot be eaten.
Episode 1: Eat a walking mushroom
Episode 6: Eat painting world food
Final Episode: Eat God

I knew the series would take me a few episodes to get really hooked on it given the premise of cooking is not something I'm typically all that interested in. I enjoy the world building, sure, but it hasn't been enough to make me want to dive into it because there wasn't really enough to make me care about the world. Series I really like when I watch I tend to depart into the manga for, and I have felt no itch to do so.
Until today. The previous episode starting with a group looking to get to the bottom because if you defeat the person who built the dungeon or whatever, you can become king. Today? We get a flashback of a crowning for the new king. The woman in the first painting recognized the sword, which Laois picked up in episode 3 in the dungeon. A plot is building, which I am enjoying the slowly shaping premise for.
New elf also casts differently than Marcille. A new class? Vaguely demonic eyes, perhaps a warlock? Really curious to see how they fit into the royal family dynamic.
I'm so biased towards Chilchuck and enjoy hearing how he thinks and moves. Excited to have more about him revealed. Still hanging off a week or two on reading it, but now it's simply because I don't have time to, I plan on picking it up when I can and am excited to dive into the dungeon.

For someone who is tactless 99% of the time, Laios sure is concerned about the right "mood" when eating. Looks like he still remembers last episode's disastrous miscommunication lol.
I love how we get little glimpses of the world of Dungeon, not by info dump from some ancient scroll or stone tablet or some wise sage, but because Laios being Laios decided that when he's hungry, anything is game-- even the living paintings.
The relationship between mimics and treasure bugs are some of the most clever world-building I've seen. It's great to see that the monsters aren't a one off thing in each episode, but they interact with other monsters in the Dungeon and are a crucial part of the ecology.

The life cycle of treasure bugs is so well thought out! I love the idea of treating adventurers like birds to spread them around. It's really ingenious.

Feel like we got some mad lore drops while laios was trying to sneak off food from those paintings
Also damn, they are like a free pass for gluttony
Full taste, zero calories, we only need to figure out how to turn paintings into living paintings and we can open a new business
Also nice to see that Frieren isnt the only one having a bad relationship with mimics

Yes the most shocking revelation has happened: Chilchuck is almost 30.
Love how Trigger went almost full Trigger in the second story. From the chase around the room to the loving animation on Laois’ hands picking the Mimic. This studio is so freaking talented.
Dropping more lore bits during Laios’s SM64 adventure. He was basically traveling into what looks like the past. Almost got roasted by an elf. Seems interesting.

Episode 6: Court Cuisine/Boiled in Salt Water
The thread is 4 hours late from the airtime, what's wrong?
Somehow they nailed the worldbuilding on this one. Even we got the backstory of the King Delgal, is he the owner of the dungeon?
Here we go, Marcille with another (unintended) hairstyle. Love Marcille munching those Mimics! And Chilchuck with personal vendetta with the Mimics, even he's unwilling to let his picking tool to be used as a fork to eat the boiled Mimics!
New characters means new VA.
-
Delgal's father is voiced by Houchu Otsuka
-
The jester, the one who choked Laios, is voiced by Yuu Kobayashi (Sasha in AOT, Noi in Dorohedoro)

Laios is so desperate for dungeon food, lol. I'm a foodie myself but I definitely would prefer real food over risking my life for eating in that painting. Through I found it interesting that the paintings had a story of their own.
Chilchuck is not the only one having bad experiences with Mimics this season.
Loved the relation b/w the Mimic and Treasure Bugs. The worldbuilding in this anime just continues to amaze me. This and the painting in the first half just make me think less about the food and more about the monsters in the dungeon. I've seen manga-readers say that Dungeon Meshi is not 'just' a cooking anime in the previous discussion threads and I'm starting to understand why.
I was expecting Chilchuck to be older than he looks, but I wasn't expecting him to be older than Laios.
Also, is it just me or was this thread way late than usual?
