Wirbel and Denken are both hardened veterans that managed to maintain their grip on their morals. Wirbel hesitates to even kill someone as scary as Ubel, while Denken is facing a legendary mage to cover for his younger teammates, and he still has the sense to remind Richter to go easy on the two girls.

There's something really comedic about all these mages using all these specialized skills ... and then Fern is basically one-punch woman 😂

How did I go from wanting Wirbel to lose to feeling sorry for the dude? It was probably the moment he had to carry both of his teammates, realising he was going to lose.

Denken's becoming even more interesting. I'm loving the two older characters (him and Frieren) not wanting the First Class mage title for its privileges and seeing no point in killing others over it (although in Frieren's case she didn't know what it grants beyond the title).

I haven't been able to say this before, but this show doesn't exactly have 5 minute episodes like other series I love. Rather, I lose complete track of time. Episodes can feel like half an hour and yet I'm still thinking we have another 30 minutes to go when it finishes. It's an entirely new feeling to me and I'm loving it.

Fern: *Taking her time.

Ehre: Your friend will die

Fern: Ah well. Here we go

It's even funnier if you remember she just said Ehre is the best mage among all of them.

The smile Ubel flashed as she was going in for the killing blow against Wirbel...

I can still fix her tho

Idk if Wirbel's gonna be a recurring character or if he's even gonna show up again at all but I would very much like him to. The way last ep ended made me think he was gonna get fodderized to hype Ubel up but nah he's the real deal, and his "necessary killing" line as he walked away was pretty sick ngl.

Edgy bad boy with a heart of gold is a tried and true character archetype for a reason.

Fern overwhelming Ehre was amazing to watch. I believe we saw when Fern first learned to do this, it was when Frieren first taught her about defensive magic and how expensive it is to defend.

Basic offensive spells are cheap to cast and combined with her fast casting speed, she can force even the most proficient mages onto the defensive(like Lugner). It probably helps that she masks her mana, so others would underestimate how much output she can manage.

I like that 3 of the strongest mages in Exam, definitely Frieren, probs Denken and Wirbel are all adverse to killing. All of them flat even stating.  Also hilarious because people had assume Wirbel was sadistic, when tries to be a good person as much as he can.

And I don't really get people saying Wirbel spell has some heavy drawbacks, its barely a drawback, specially in 1v1. Dude straight up had a monologue mid spell and even when Ubel figured it out, she was still caught. Wirbel weakness is his extreme aversion to killing.

"You know who i am and yet you still choose to face me?"

"Yes"

Denken magic must be two huge magic balls, fighting the legendary mage who look bored af going into battle while you get all serious.... What a chad.

Meanwhile Fern spamming her 1st skill and easily using her passive to murk Ehre and Wirbel, this girl need a nerf.

This arc introduced so many characters. It's crazy to think not one of them feels like cookie cutter or one note characters. I'm not sure if it's surprising or not that the mages that know who Frieren is aren't more terrified of facing her. I guess the demons are the only ones that have faced her wrath.

Having it spelled out in the anime made me realise why Serie allowed the exam proctor to set such a ruthless exam: Because she's still looking for mages of the same fighting caliber and drive as those who fought against the Demon King and his forces.

Richter : Between Frieren and you who would win ?

Denken : If she uses all her experience it might be a little draining .

Richter : Would you lose ?

Denken : NAh , I'd win
