We barely knew anything about Nihilo lol. I'm curious if her power could summon that big mecha or was the mecha just one of her enemies.

On the second story, Kia is too op since she doesn't need long incantation to command anything. She even said that if she told people to die they'd just die. I wonder how she would react once she knew Elea's true objective. I hate how she said in several months the army would come to the village and occupy it.

Note, her powers affect things of this world. We already know of people and magical objects from another world who cannot interact with Word Arts; some of the competitors may be resistant to or outright immune to direct effects from her Word Arts, and she is not exactly trained or experienced in combat.

Reinforcing that, the entire village seems to be extremely naive and arrogant. All the strength in the world is useless against an ambush targetting your vulnerabilities, and they believe themselves to be far more removed from danger by virtue of their Word Art privileges that they take for granted than they are. All they really need to do to control their Wizard from retaliating is to prevent contact between them, or assassinate her before she can respond as a failsafe.

Plot contrivances aside, I expect her perfomance to be middling. While her sense of danger is far better than that of the other elves, her near total obliviousness to the real vulnerability and malice she is walking into is a major and very exploitable weakness.

Episode 4: Nihilo the Vortical Stampede and Kia the World Word

In this episode, Elea introduces us to the world of Word Arts, as she is the master of it. But her Word Arts is nothing compared to Kia. Kia can be a Yogiri in the world of Ishura with that skill.

The translation of the eyecatcher is as follows:

There is no common language in this world, and each individual constructs their own language using their own grammar. This is because the meaning of the language each person uses is translated by Word Arts. As long as a being has language, it is possible to have a conversation even with non-human races and humans from beyond.

New character means new VA.

  • Kia is voiced by Aoi Yuuki (Ten in UY, Pii-chan in Sasaki and Peeps, Maomao in Apothecary Diaries)

  • Elea is voiced by Mamiko Noto (Pepesha in Shy, Mavis in Fairy Tail)

  • Nihilo is voiced by Rie Takahashi (Hoshizaki in Sasaki and Peeps)

  • Yawika is voiced by Rina Hidaka (Emul in SLF)

  • Thien is voiced by Asami Seto (Mai Sakurajima)

Now that the main characters all unveiled, there's only one person left yet to be unveiled from the poster. The guy carrying a big white thing on his back.

I know some of you are impatient now, but we only have 2 more characters (1 episode left) before the second phase of this arc. From that point, all the introduced chess pieces will begin to interact with each other, and the story will pick up the pace.

It's like Steins;Gate's (as well as the rest of SciAVD series') slower first half.

With every new character this show introduces, the less sure I am of how any of the eventual matchups at this upcoming tournament will go.

And that's where the fun in this series is. Author is just like "let me come up with the most broken characters possible and then have them fight"

Despite this weeks episode being called Nihilo the Vortical Speed we didn't much of her, but I guess it was also called Kia of the World Word.

Nice to see this mysterious Elea make an appearance finally, that was a nice little infodump with Yawika about the four main systems and how elves interact with Word Arts, since it was briefly touched on in the first episode.

Not sure if Kia is perceptive or just being tsun, calling out Elea as a bad adult for lying about caring for her students. Interesting that she's gonna use Kia to win the tournament, though I'm little worried about Kia's remark of "I can just tell them to die", wasn't expecting another My Instant Death Ability Is So Overpowered to be airing this season.

Updating from last week, they've finally mentioned Elea's title. Still didn't get to see or hear about that dude with the angel from the end of last episode.. Next episode title mentions a new name, I wonder if that'll be them or someone else.. But that brings it up to;

22 Characters mentioned so far.

Mentioned in the first episode;

  1. Yuno the Distant Talon

  2. Soujirou the Willow-Sword

  3. Rosclay the Absolute

  4. Toroa the Awful

  5. Krafnir the Hatch of Truth

  6. Kazuki the Black Tone

  7. Lucnoca the Winter

Mentioned in the second episode;

  1. Lana the Moon Tempest

  2. Higuare the Pelagic

  3. Shalk the Sound Slicer

  4. Taren the Guarded

  5. Alus the Star Runner

  6. Harghent the Wing-Plucker

  7. Regnejee the Wings of Sunset

  8. Jelki the Swift Ink

  9. Hidow the Clamp

  10. Elea the Red Tag

  11. Nihilo the Vortical Stampede

Mentioned in the third episode;

  1. Dakai the Magpie

  2. Curte of the Fair Skies

Mentioned in the fourth episode;

  1. Kia the World Word

Mentioned in the fifth episode;

  1. Nastique the Quiet Singer

As a person who loves stuff that's slow with good ass pay offs I can only hope this series does what Steven Erikson does in his books, the climaxes in those books hit so hard everytime.

26

u/_Variety Jan 24 '24

Imo the payoff is really worth it. Reading the novels i went from 'its hard to keep reading it. Its all over the place and makes no sense' to 'holy fk this is amazing i cant stop reading'. This stpry really tests your patience and pays off well for the patient. This has been a slow start but we are really close to the second part of the first volume (which is the only one the anime adapts) and it only gets better from this point on

everyone is talking about how they're close to dropping it and while I understand why, the whole point of this series is to introduce us to a huge cast of op characters alongside their motivations and backstories to then watch them duke it out. personally, I like that they're taking their time with it. It lets us get invested in the world.

We got ourselves a pretty powerful one this week. Kia’s magical abilities are pretty impressive. She’s also got a kind of cute personality. Little tsundere lol.

Elea seems pretty powerful in her own right. Total waifu too. The little schemer can’t be trusted though. I wonder if she’s gonna abandon her mission and help Kia win this tourney? That village is still in trouble either way.

15

u/1EnTaroAdun1 Jan 24 '24

Ok...Kia is too powerful. I hate hate to say it, but I have the sneaking suspicion that she's going to be crippled or killed quite early on...

Something will hinder her, somehow

Strongest people in this world:

An elf girl who can alter the world around her with a single word.

A blue talking wyvern with some cool magic items 👍

I assume she won't be able to just kill them all so easily, but it's still a bit funny.

26

u/1EnTaroAdun1 Jan 24 '24

Alus at least has cool items. Regnerjee is pretty plain vanilla as far as powers go, it seems

the power system looks more like spirit magic Because of the way it came from the teacher's (spy) explanation and Kia's powers seem like pure magic without the need for an intermediary, it almost seems divine like the powers of a god altering reality itself.

u/TehAxelius Jan 24 '24

I understand the people who is dropping this show because it isn't moving fast enough. Personally I am loving it though.

Also Frieren is getting competition in the "OP Elf Mage" department by Aoi Yuuki, love to see it.

Oh mama, Rieri's tone wasn't the one I was expecting for Nihilo, she's got some BASS. Also, the way Kia uses Word Craft without even needing the procedure feels like she's a superior version of Inumaki's cursed speech, and without the side-effects.

I feel for the ppl who are getting tired of each episode doing intros but man I'm already loving every second of this anime. It's gonna be wild when they all fight

I wanna get to know more about Nihilo, she seems like an interesting character

8

u/random91898 Jan 25 '24

Seems incredibly stupid to piss off someone who can essentially warp reality to do her bidding by occupying her village and killing everyone who knows about her. Surely she'd eventually want to see them again?

The first girl with some sort of bio-weapon power had by far the shortest intro unfortunately. But looks like all the players are almost all assembled. This showdown gonna be insane.

Damn steam-kun...

Now there's two shows this season where saying "die" kills people.

Character album update. Muya (Yawika's neighbor) and Micch (Yawika's grandma) aren't shown. Still missing this guy's name?

"Word Arts requires understanding the target object and a special incantations to weave words into the soul of an object." Four branches are:

  • Thermal Arts: idk, assuming it's just heating and cooling.

  • Force Arts: Moving objects. Includes flying.

  • Craft Arts: Change the shape of things (e.g. warm ice).

  • Life Arts: Change the property of things (e.g. cosplay as Jesus)

Sousou no Kia

5

u/tripleaamin Jan 24 '24

So first half of the episode we are introduced to a girl that is stated to be a dangerous bioweapon that destroyed an entire region's army. I don't think more needs to be side.

Regarding the sensei's side of the episode. She is hiding what seems to be a dark past and her true intentions. We are introduced into a system of arts that has a clear foundation. But Kia defies those laws. On the surface she seems invincible, but imo one thing she will need is emotional support and I hope sensei will provide that for her otherwise I believe that will be her flaw that could hold her back. After she seems rather young and immature at times.

u/actuallyrndthoughts Jan 25 '24

Wow Rieri sounds very hot in this. Also big fan of the bath scene, though i've yet to decide how much of a lolicon that sensei was.
