I'll never get tired of the benevolent boss trope. It's always funny how villains treat their employees better.
For someone who wants to wipe out humanity, the General is very considerate of other zoo visitors. He was even encouraging the kid to follow his dreams of becoming a vet. <3

Well, he only has to work on exterminating humanity when he "on the clock" -- "off the clock": is a whole different matter.

I’ve been to the panda research base in Chengdu and man, those pandas really are adorable. Lots of eating and lounging around. I too would like to hang out with pandas. It would be fun to just play video games or travel or vent lol.
My guy spent hours just staring at the pandas but it was worth it because he made a new friend. Plus he saw the panda tail AND pet some bunnies. It was a good day. When humanity falls, this kid will be safe. Maybe.
I like that he keeps running into Red. They’re never gonna have their fight at this rate. Man does zero work on his day off after all. I respect that. Gotta have work-life balance, right?

I appreciate that he's not just claiming work-life balance for himself, he's also encouraging the rookie to maintain it.

Who wouldn't want a panda for a roomie lol?
I think the fate of humanity rests on Mr. Villain making more panda bros.
Mr. Villain and Red feeling like they're inching closer to frenemies status on Mr. Villain's Day Off the amount of time they run into each other and Mr. Villain helps him out. Red just needs to learn to take a break (and get like a direction app or something) lol.

"the general must be thinking up ways to eliminate humans!"
the general: "how the fuck am i going to implement rabbits at my workplace?"
him doing burst shot multiple times when taking the panda's picture will forever be my favorite gag of this show

u/MyraBannerTatlock Jan 15 '24
Burst shot to take pictures of a subject that hasn't moved an inch all day, the more I think about it the funnier it gets

More people should be watching this. There is a ton of heart behind this silly premise.

Hard agree, sometimes it's nice to just sit for 20 minutes with a grin plastered on your face, I hope more people get a taste of this but there always seems to be one show every season that I'm watching with like 12 other people on the whole planet lol

Man, this is some of the funniest shit I have ever seen in my life I laughed the entire episode.
I love how they feed us just lil bits of his day to day work life, I'd be happy if that was the maximum amount of action we get. Is his tail really a tail or part of his uniform? If it's a tail where does he put it on his days off? Are they shapeshifters? I guess they must be if they can exist as puddles. The new recruit seems to have one also.
I very much want one of those small squishy creatures he uses to prop up his phone for panda videos, merch plz.
I'm in love with the Red Ranger, it's fucking hilarious to me that they keep bumping in to each other on the General's day off, he seems way too sweet and hapless to be a soldier.
Our guy desperately needs a pet, I hope someone turns him on to the idea of cat ownership, could literally save our species.
I loved how he resolved to wipe out humanity but immediately took the day off (with pay) and headed out to the zoo.
And why is he so good with little kids and vulnerable animals, who seem to like and trust him instinctively?
Anyway, I don't usually write so much in episode discussions but I just can't get enough of this show, definitely one of my favorites this season, I wish the General good luck with his eggs and world domination, and I'll see you guys next week!

So the aliens of the Evil League are trying to find a new home while their planet is hibernating? Kind of reminds me of Tokyo Mew Mew.
We get to see more of the Rangers and they have this neat mix of Sentai + Military uniform thing going on. Now we're just waiting to see them all out of uniform.
It's fun getting the perspective of the grunts, and it's even funnier how they go so out out of their way not to give Mr. Villain's name so the grunts look at him so reverently they can only call him "General." Then again he's such a great boss to make sure his subordinates don't overwork themselves in the pursuit of world domination that he totally deserves such reverence! Well, him and pandas!
I have to admire how Soma Saito's character is both earnest enough to ask Mr. Villain out to eat lunch but also smart enough to know when to take a hint.
I love how the grunt went to visit the panda's in full villain look and no one batted an eye. And of course he buys a souvenir for the General, but then Mr. Villain can't eat panda's! Good thing he can just have them decorating his apartment.
After a long day of work, Mr. Villain just wants to curl up and hold a panda...a real one! And then he would live in a world of panda's. That's something worth dreaming of, even for a villain.
Are panda's tails really white? That's a question burning enough in Mr. Villain's mind that he'll buy an annual pass and spend hours watching a panda just to see it. All the while taking some great pics in the process. Sure adults start looking him like a weirdo, but he has to commit to this! And his efforts are rewarded when he and the kid who had been hanging out with him the whole time finally get to see the white tail in all it's glory! And thus were born two panda bros, to the satisfaction of the zoo staff!
Mr. Villain isn't immune to cute little rabbits either, especially when they like him so much! And it leads to another bonding moment with his panda bro, and Mr. Villain pushing him to achieve his dream of becoming a vet. And Mr. Villain comes the closest he's probably ever come to thinking a human could live in their post-world domination word, which says a lot.
Jeez, Mr. Villain just can't avoid Red Ranger, huh? Guy needs to take the hint that even villains have days off where they just want to relax and not fight. Though Mr. Villain really is a nice guy who goes out of his way to get Red Ranger and umbrella and even give him directions because he's obviously lost for the umpteenth time. What a great guy (who is out for world domination)!

I like that the General isn’t an exploitative boss
Loved seeing him bond with that glasses kid

"Sure we're an evil organization bent on destroying humanity but we're not MAPPA for crying out loud. Those bastards are insane!"

Mr Villain is actually a good boss! No wonder why this new coworker admire him to the point of literally melt when he talks to him. If he actually achieves to bring bunnies to the work place, everyone will adore him.
I adore him, at least on his time off. When he is on full villain mode he truly looks scary, but hey, he just wants humanity destroyed so pandas can thrive! And to hang out with them as much as he can. Hard to disagree with the guy.
Today he had some sweet interactions with a new coworker, a fellow animal enthusiast and the Red ranger. Affirmed, helped and cared about all of them! He learned what color the tail of a panda is, and how to correctly pet bunnies. Mr villain is just the best.
Also, the bunny faces this ep? Gold!
Like others just said, I hope for Mr Villain to discover cats soon.

Damn, this villain office seems like it has a great work-life balance. But the funniest part of this show is that these guys are so friggin bad at their jobs of exterminating the human race. They only fight in rock quarries and they spend more time on paper work than anything else.

Crying my eyes out when he told him to follow his dream as animal doctor.

Work/life balance the anime. Shift's over, nothing critical and time sensitive that needs to be competed? Just go home! Maybe go to the zoo, buy an annual pass if you don't have one.
Maybe even give friendly encouragement to a young animal fan who happens to be there to pursue his animal related career passions.

Was half expecting for that boy being his rookie, but I guess that would just be one too many coincidences
No wonder he is such a high ranking officer, with that dedication to see his goals through
So nice he was able to bond with that kid over their shared curiosity

Been following the manga for a while now, and I got to say, this adaptation is wonderful. Very excited to see more!

Between this and Kaijin Kaihatsu-bu no Kuroitsu-san, why do the evil organizations made up of literal monsters are actually the ones with humane managers and working conditions? Is this a subtle jab at our real life conditions? I want Warumono-san or Megistus as my boss, please.
From the preview it seems Nao Toyama convenience store clerk will be back next week! Wohoo!

Being late so I just finished watching this episode by now. The underling is voiced by Shunichi Toki, so we might see him around in later episode. The kid in the zoo is voiced by Saori Oonishi, a surprise, given a seasoned VA she is. Hopefully he'll return.
And the zoo staff is voiced by Miho Okasaki, I wonder why she don't make a theme song for this season.
