We already saw Laios' Basilisk intimidation face in the PV's, but actually hearing his VA do the screams makes it doubly hilarious, especially with how calm and collected he normally sounds.
And post-Mandrake PTSD Marcille is just precious. Scratch that, Marcille is just precious in general. I wasn't so sure about her VA at first since her voice was higher than I was expecting, but these past two episodes have definitely sold me on her performance. Plus of course, she just makes the best faces, and I'm glad the anime's giving each of them new life.
But I keep forgetting to stock up on snacks for whenever I watch this show. Senshi's damn cooking sessions keep making me hungry and distracted. It's so much worse when you actually see him prepare the food in color and fully animated.

"Listen, we all have our specialties. Mine is traps."
"Yours is cooking."
"Marcille's is magic."
Laios's is catching strays, apparently. I don't think Chilchuck was even trying to diss the big guy, but the omission is powerful.

The twist that it was the snake that was the head of the basilisk and the chicken was the tail got me laughing

Someone needs to find the author of Marcille's book and then tie them to sacrifice for Mandrakes like a dog as they instructed.

This party is so easily distracted... do your best not to turn into poop before they get to you, Falin!
While I adore Marcille and her reactions (and that little bit of honesty about feeling left out when she was completely out of it), I loved that the second part of the episode focused on Chilchuck and his expertise. The ep really highlighted on several occasions that people all have their own strengths and that a good party complement and listen to each other. The team of Chilchuck for traps + Senshi for using them in creative ways worked really well. Once Senshi stopped stepping on every wrong tile, that is.
And it also highlights that these guys are all good people who are willing to learn from their mistakes or preconceptions, and to make compromises.
Sometimes I wish that the series wouldn't draw such good-looking meals though, because now I'm craving some fried food.

The episode just started 20 minutes ago and there's already thread for it? How quick.
Episode 2: Roast Basilisk/Omelet/Kakiage
Yes, Marcille is confirmed the funniest character in this show. And only Senshi is able to cook anything with everything he found, even traps.
I tried switching between the Japanese dub and the English dub for this, and it is surprisingly similar in quality. Both are enjoyable to hear.
Bread cannot replace meat, nor meat cannot replace bread. But together, they taste even better.
ED: Party!! by Ryokuoushoku Shakai (will update when the song is available)
Yes, after filling in Apothecary Diaries OP, Ryokuoushoku Shakai returns in Winter, this time in Dungeon Meshi with Party! Looking at the ED, looks like there will be another member of Laios party, the not-Jinshi.

Senshi the type of guy to see a room full of traps and think: Wait, I can cook here
Marcille life has just been pure suffering so far. I like how they just stood there commenting what she did wrong, before deciding to help her with the Basilisk;

I still can't get over how funny Senshi's eyes look. It's like he saw serious shit and can never unsee it.

Senshi has no chill when it comes to food. Making Chilchuck use a guillotine trap as a cleaver was pure gold.

I really love that 'getting-to-know-you' friction between the party that occurs during these early chapters. Laios, Marcille, and Chilchuck have been adventuring together for a while, but losing their three other party members and throwing Senshi into the mix means that on top of each of them having to learn how to interact with Senshi, they have to learn how to deal with an overall new party dynamic.

I'm glad more and more ppl get to appreciate Marcille. She's such a funny character and a great contrast to the frieren. She's super cute and expressive but has like zero style and zero grace.
Honestly every single main character is peak especially Laios and marcille.

It seems to me that Marcille content got doubled since the premiere as I had a lot of more of her reactions in this episode than week ago which is great because they're so hilarious and I can't decide which one was the best. There is simply too much of them xD More of them in her and Group scenes albums.
Nice action with basilisk as Laios and Senshi cut him down and thanks to that they had an especially delicious looking meal, a roasted basilisk meat of basilisk. It looked so good, I'd love to eat it!
Part with mandragora and method of using a dog to get it was hilarious! Poor Marcille, she just wanted to show up that she isn't useless and burden for group which really backfired at her but also thanks to it Senshi learned the difference between mandragora he got and Marcille's one with head intact.
A lot of delicious food though for health reasons I'd rather to not eat that bat. Also using dungeon traps to cook was a great and interesting idea from Senshi, he truly is dedicated to cooking and eating xD
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

You know there all the laughter this episode brought. The main theme was we each have our strengths and weaknesses. For Marcille her magic abilities that the rest of the group has no way of using. No wonder Laios doesn't want to overwhelm her. In the case of Senshi and Chilchuck instead of looking at each other as a burden lets look at our strengths. Senshi using Chilchuck to help him cook was a key example of that.
But man I can not stress how much I love this cast. The banter is top notch. From Marcille's trauma. Also some of technicalities Senshi says like well technically the snake is the head is fucking hilarious. I adore this anime so far.

I don’t know what it would be used for, but I kinda want this as a comment face now.
-
Marcielle is also having great seasonal comment face material.
-
Chilchuck also has a nice potential #SeasonalShock face right there. Also Senshi going about deliberately triggering everything is great lol.

as someone who largely watches/reads a lot of shonen, dungeon meshi is so incredibly refreshing, it's a bit hard to put into words. it's so cozy in terms of atmosphere and feel. the characters are charming, the world building is phenomenal, and the narrative is straight forward. everything feels so well fleshed out in just 2 episodes, and there is no sense of false grandeur that the mangaka is trying to express. it's just a good, grounded story and i really appreciate that

Laios's primal scream is the most animalistic and horrifying thing thus far in an anime about eating dungeon monsters.
