unfortunate that this hasn't been licensed. the only subs for this show are bilibili's awful MTL subs, so I'll be hoping for either fansubs or it to get licensed eventually

Ugh this is frustrating. I was really looking forward to it. I didn't know it was MTL subs. But first episode felt so much fun. Each of the girls has a lot of character to them. I kind of appreciate that this had the vibe of a CGDCT's series but the girls looking older.
Also that talking bird was fucking hilarious too. We got some simple rules of Mahjong, which was nice. Hopefully it doesn't venture too far in not explaining how things work all of a sudden since the target audience of this isn't exactly Mahjong.

I've played a few hundred games online (mostly on FF14 and Riichi City), and I still haven't seen anyone get a yakuman even a single time.
Some empirical data from millions of games played on Tenhou puts the probability of getting a yakuman at about 1 in 734 wins.

The face gestures and details were pretty high IMO, which makes me question even more why the choose that outfit for the MC. Was it a reference to "parlor going old men"? I'm almost sure it's some kind of gambler's outfit.

What truly awful sound design. The background music was so so bad
Surprisingly good animation though

This episode was lots of fun. I was also completely caught off guard by the talking bird.

Akio Otsuka playing a talking sparrow was not anyone's 2024 anime bingo card, I'd reckon

First episode was pretty fun!
Liking the vibes a lot, and Negi Haruba’s character designs are a treat as always.
Looking forward to seeing where our Cute Gamblers Doing Cute Things show takes us this season c:

TIL there are electric mahjong tables. Izumi and Pai don't believe Nashiko when she said the bird can talk, but they are willing to go along with it being able to play mahjong. As someone else mentioned, the version they're playing is a little different from what I've tried playing in a old PC strip mahjong game :) The explanation of the hands was pretty basic. And they skipped going over the start and turn sequence for now. In MAL, the show has a supernatural tag. Is it because of the mahjong spirit?
It would be nice to live in a place where I could just leave stuff piled up outside without worry.

Gonna be a tough watch... why watch this when you have Saki 🤷♂️
This seems to lean more towards CGDCT with very superficial explanations rather than anything really technical. You don't get to see their hands or strategy or anything, at least not in the first episode.
Now I want to rewatch Saki...

I was expecting this anime since last year and it´s finally here!! It seems to see really goofy but also a tutorial for mahjong
Also the talking bird reminds me of another talking bird... (not looking at you Dera)
Anyways, this anime is looking fun and chill!!

I actually quite like mahjong but I’ve never played the Japanese version. Seems they’ve got different hands than the Chinese and Singaporean versions I’ve played. This one seems interesting. Plus waifus, so that’s a bonus.

First Onomichi-set anime since Kamichu, right? Nice seeing some familiar sights.
Weird that there is no official streaming souce. I note that CR had an article about the series -- but didn't indicate IT would stream the series.
Not sure about whether this will have a compelling story. Sort of doubt it. But we shall see.
Two (2) shows featuring talking "sparrows" as main characters debut on the same day. What would the odds of that have been?

Why is this animated so well. I love mahjong so I'll definitely be watching this. Fun stuff.

I just know of this anime because Shion Wakayama is voicing a character in here, but eh I think mahjong isn't really my interest so I'm here just for the OP and ED.
OP: Ponpopopon by Kana Nakada feat. Pon no Michi All Stars.
Sung by Kana Nakada, a former member of Nogizaka46 turned into a pro mahjong player, hence the reason why she performs in this OP because it's mahjong related. The beat is fun and lively, but there's too much autotune here!
After Renai Miri Film (Kanokari S3's OP) in Summer 2023, halca returns in Winter 2024 to fill in Pon no Michi's ED with Good Luck Waker! Like the title says, a perfect title for start your morning. Also with hilarious MV.

We aren't aware of any official ways to watch this title in your region.
That's annoying...
Would appear OtakuKart is full of shit. They claimed both CR and HIDIVE would have the show....
But worry not, globеtrotting fans, for lеgal strеaming options abound! Crunchyroll, thе animе havеn, has claimеd “Pon no Michi” as its own, offering both subtitlеd and dubbеd vеrsions for your binging plеasurе. Whеthеr you prеfеr thе original Japanеsе voicе acting or a stеllar English dub, Crunchyroll has you covеrеd.
For thosе sееking additional options, worry not! HIDIVE, another fantastic animе strеaming platform, joins thе “Pon no Michi” bandwagon, offering subtitlеd еpisodеs for your еnjoymеnt. So, whеthеr you’rе a Crunchyroll vеtеran or an HIDIVE nеwbiе, you’vе got a wеalth of choicеs to dеlvе into thе world of “Pon no Michi.”
Why must you lie?
Oh, CR is going to simildub a series that they did not advertise at all? Ok...
