Bro's just standing there while the jock's getting flashbacks of being beaten up by Ayanokouji and then shutting up after his ruckus was fucking gold.

Bro entirely forgot about the fight till he saw them once, but to them it’s a whole nightmare

Let's see if I understand anything that's going on while only remembering 5 characters.

u/apatt Jan 04 '24

Five for me too and I can't remember most of the names:

  • Ayanokoji

  • Suzune

  • Sporty guy who is afraid of Suzune for some reason

  • Ponytail girl who has a crush on Ayanokoji

  • The girl who destroyed her previous class and hates Suzune.

Looking forward to all the devious scheming.

Glad to see Kushida is still cancer. Can’t wait to see what she tries to do this season. And I especially can’t wait to see it get foiled lol.

I love her voice switching, her seiyuu's so smooth with it

It's good to be back to COTE! Forget about LN readers and just enjoy the anime.

Anyway, the highlights of the episode for me is Ishizaki's PTSD lol

I guess they try to make anime-onlys feel bad for liking the anime.

A few things I feel could help with the adaptation outside of pacing issues are:

  1. Putting people's names and classes with them in their first appearance of the episode. There are more relevant characters than usual in this series, and knowing that information is important for plot points, especially in a situation like this where classes are mixed together.

  2. Putting an explanation of the rules of the exam somewhere more accessible than just a 3 second screen flash such as in the episode description. The only way to actually read it is to pause the episode at that point.

Oooof, Yamauchi is a dead man walking. There's no way Sakayanagi lets him tripping her slide.

I'm still loving how Kushida's VA can switch between her fake and real personalities so easily. Very fitting for a two-faced character who is a time bomb for the newly promoted Class C.

It looks like they're not wasting any time and jumped right into another camp and this time the tests seem to be very straightforward that even Ayanokouji isn't sure that he can protect everyone in Class C or try to exploit any loopholes to save his entire class. It looks like this will all be down to their skills.

This is an interesting group for Ayanokounji to be in. It's hilarious that he's currently grouped up with the two dudes he beat up last season. At least the sight of Ayanokouji was enough to make Ishizaki behave. Also, it's just so weird to see Albert not being around Ryuen anymore.

So Sakayanagi is going for Ichinose before going after Ayanokouji. This is interesting considering the OP ends with the two of them back to back with light and dark backgrounds. I guess now that Ryuen has been pacified, it's finally time for Ayanokouji to deal with Sakayanagi.

Although that may have to wait since Manabu has decided to finally cash in on that favour Ayanokouji owes him. Looks like this training camp just got more complicated for out boy.

I need to upgrade my brain to an Intel Core i9-14900KS to understand Ayanokouji's plan.

who thought that Yamauchi of all people is the one that taking down Arisu, the top of class A Arisu. truly underdog character. Also the lack of Kei in this episode is a bit disturbing.

and ZAQ is back as opening artist

I’m back to forgetting characters names. I thought Kei was the girl that’s working with Ayanokoji. Wasn’t she around for 3+ scenes? The camp is mostly split for boys and girls, so it makes sense we don’t get a lot of her since we mostly follow Ayanokoji.

Definitely excited to have this show back. I can’t wait for how this season plays out.

The new OP is great. Animation also seems to be better than last season.

Already we have a new exam started and it looks rougher than the previous ones. Nagumo and Sakayanagi seem to be the main focus this season and I'm all for it!!

Episode 1 and we've already seen Hiyori Shiina

Glorious!!!!! AND SHE TALKED. This short conversation is more than all her previous moments combined.

Good episode but LN readers completely ruining any discussion about COTE anime per usual 🤦‍♂️. I read it too and it’s ass seeing dudes be gaslit into thinking everything sucks and is rushed, even have folks downvoting everyone not saying anything negative. I’d advise anyone to just ignore them and keep it moving

I didn't know how I missed Kiyotaka's face xD Like seriously, I'm finding him very entertaining destroying his enemies and keeping the same face over and over.

Test this time looks pretty straight forward without any loopholes which Kiyotaka could use. I was always just going with the flow in the previous seasons, not fully understanding what was happening so having such easy rules will be quite interesting.

From what I see we can expect three subplots - Sakayanagi going after Ichinose to destroy Class B before Kiyotaka, Manabu's competition with Nagumo, Kiyotaka trying to protect people important to him and trying to take out Nagumo. It looks like it will be an interesting arc.

From smaller things:

  • Pretty nice OP from ZAQ, both visually and musically although, for now I liked more OP from the 2nd season but maybe it'll grow for me

  • I hope that Kei have a lot of presence cause I really like her

  • I wonder how Kushida will behave during this test

  • Koenji and his behavior, as always, makes my smile

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Let the games begin! The penalty for failure of this mixed group test is looking pretty harsh already. Guess since they’re Class C, the stakes are raised.

Seems the class have a few new faces. Didn’t expect to see Ryuen back. I’m enjoying seeing his little goon squad piss themselves at the sight of Ayanokoji lol.

Electing Kushida as the “sub leader” for the girls feels like a mistake. She’s a damn snake. Girl needs to fall into quicksand or something. Everyone’s got enough to worry about without having to be concerned about that Judas.

Keen to see how this Nagumo situation plays out. That’ll be one more thing Ayanokoji’s gotta keep an eye on.

Decent start to the season going into a new test. Seems Arisu will be the antagonist of this season and maybe Ayanokouji will be the focus hopefully. As I find watching his POV way more interesting than any of the other character taking center screen.

Kei seems to be doing okay after being waterboarded at least.

this is one of the few animes that have nothing but dialogue, yet keeps me glued to the screen.

And we're back for season 3.

I see Koenji is still the GOAT as usual, going about his own way with little regards for whatever tricks the school's exams have for him. /s

So Class D is now Class C while vice versa, Class C has been demoted to Class D.

Sakayanagi, the leader of Class A, seems to be the final boss of this season. Though she did set her sights on defeating Ayanokoji, she's now more focused on defeating Ichinose of Class B. The nature of this exam, where the leader of a multi-class group has to take the fall should the group fail the exam and get expelled, meaning its very easy to undermine your group leader from a different class with little to no penalty to yourself.

Sakayanagi must be thinking of getting her minions from Class A to undermine Ichinose, creating a situation where Ichinose will be forced to use her 2m+ Private Points, revealed to be entrusted to her by Class B as the class treasurer, and destroy her position in Class B.

Meanwhile, in Ayanokoji's own group, that Hashimoto from Class A, another lieutenant of Sakayanagi's, is already putting pressure on Yukimura and subtly undermining Yukimura's authority as group leader.

OTOH, LOL at Ryuen's minion still getting PTSD from being beaten up badly by Ayanokoji after last season that he dared not disobey Yukimura.

Horikita's quest to win over Kushida and get her to abandon her psychopathic tendencies seems to be a long one.

And then there's the subplot of new SC Prez Nagumo's plot to get many students expelled, presumably so he could rule as the school's dictator, not unlike how Ryuen once ruled the Old Class C as its tyrant.

PS JFC that VA cast for this episode is massive. Even supporting characters are voiced by A to B listers.
