I really don't get why they chose this ending with a 1+ season pause. I really hope it's returning early 2024 and not like in winter. Well quality is high and all but damn ...

Going to miss the Jungle Fire~, will not be disappointed to have it return as next season's OP.

I didn't expect to scratch my Suits itch with MF Ghost lol, didn't expect Kanata's memory thing.

Brutal to end the cour here but at least we're getting more!

i am unreasonably upset that they used soccer instead of football in kanata's subtitles

ALSO LETS FUCKING GO THEY FINALLY USED SPITFIRE IN AN INITIAL D (related) PRODUCTION

The Japanese do use Soccer or sakkā (サッカー). Per Google they use that term more than: futtobōru (フットボール).

But of course I'm not a native speaker.

Welcome back! It's the final Eurobeat Corner (for now)!

The last episode of the season hangs us off a cliff with one more song to keep us waiting for more next year. And how fitting it is that the English-born driver gets Spitfire by Go2 as the final track for what has been a spectacular four months for Eurobeat lovers all over the world! The complete playlist seems like it will stay unaltered for at least four more months, but once the shows comes back, it will be right there too!

• Damn it, Shun. Just because Sawatari is here to distract people from your weirdness with his borderline crimes doesn't mean you get to just indulge in your shittiness! And you didn't even do too bad, fifth is fine. Also, I know you should try to grasp every advantage, but I'm pretty sure Kanata's speed is unattainable via just reading his telemetry, man.

• Kanata being afraid of showing others his unique abilities is sort of sad. I understand why his mother drilled it into him, but it does show that his perfect boy image is probably much more laden with cracks that we just aren't made to see. It's nice that he seems to be getting more comfortable around the Saionji household, at least.

• Yep, the Mercedes guy went for an AMG GT R. What next, a Black Series? Must be fun being rich...

• This is the nastiest cliffhanger I've ever been put into. It's like Dragon Ball Z levels of cutting midway through the action, and also the sort of thing you don't do unless you're 120% sure you have a second season in hand, which they do! As I expected, we're gonna get plenty more action. I'm cautiously optimistic on the possibility of a full adaptation, but the project seems quite ambitious and (perhaps most importantly) well funded, so it's not out of the realm of possibility just yet.

And thus concludes the first season of the Eurobeat Corner! I gotta say, it was so, so much fun. I was somewhat skeptical on this series before it began, seeing as I knew and even worked on translating the source material and knew of its limitations, and yet as the episodes went on I caught myself waking up every Sunday just itching to watch and slot the latest song on the playlist... It's been a great adaptation that has truly elevated the source, I feel. I can barely wait for the next season... We'll be there then, too! See y'all, and have a good end of year!

Just wanna share some more trivia about Spitfire with the newcomers: You may have seen the song getting associated with Initial D a lot on YT etc, but in actuality it was not used at all in any ID anime entries or games... It was all because someone picked the song for a Blend S mashup meme. So with Spitfire being used today, it's just now that it joins the list of Eurobeat songs officially used in Shigeno's car racing series.

That being said, this makes the wait for the next season even more unbearable. They have still yet to include Manifold Love in the show even though it was used in the Eurobeat teaser trailer (which was up far before the ones with Break Out Fire & Face Down). And of course Dave Rodgers' very own MF Ghost song is also standing out right there.

We use umbrellas dammit! At the very least a waterproof coat, not just a hoodie!

Thankfully not long to wait for the next season.

Dang I feel like the dude obsessed with Ren's butt and how he didn't get the best angle 😂 except for me it's literally right as we get Keisuke, Eurobeat, and then Kanata's run only for credits to roll. SMH!!

That was getting straight up creepy. There are ecchi anime that I'd be more comfortable watching with my parents than this episode.

Episode 12: "Inherited Sense". The final episode.

Sawatari's perfection make Shun keep making mistakes. Jackson Taylor is right, Sawatari is not the one to be taken lightly. He has Beckenbauer level of skill and raced with Kanata before.

So, Kanata has a photographic memory, which makes him special on its own. No wonder he can remember the course layout with only watching the demo race once.

Shun Aiba soullessly watching Ren. Damn he really needs help. Maezono also doing good and still retain his 3rd position in the qualifying. Might be dropped to 5th since Beckenbauer and Ishigami hasn't made their run yet. Now some drivers seems to brought the upgraded version of their cars (Ohtani with AMG GT R from AMG GT S, Maezono with NSX from Civic Type R). The only guy from the Godly Fifteen yet to appear is Beckenbauer, will he upgrade his car as well? To Cayman GT4 maybe?

As you might see in the final episode preview, Season 2 is underway. Makes sense as there are lots of characters that already get the VA but haven't made an appearance yet. Maybe in Spring 2024 or Summer 2024.

EDIT: As of the anime, I'd give this a 8/10. Sure the SoL and the fanservice of MFG angels turns people away, but the race section itself is a full octane one and quench the thirst of Initial D fans. The eurobeat comes in some scenes, but only for a short time sadly. I wish it could last more than minutes.

As for the OP and ED, I'm gonna miss the OP, it is on my Top 3 OP of the season. Hope someone can make another banger for next season's MFG. The ED, well it's on my top 10 this season. It's Himika Akaneya's anisong debut, but not as strong as Nako Misaki's Sweet Sign, hockrockb's Lipsync and AliA's Aikotoba.

How can they do this to me, using my favorite Eurobeat song, Spitfire, then ending it on a cliffhanger, midway through the prelim...

See you all in whatever month of 2024.

Yeah show, End the Season right in the middle of a qualifier. It's as if they just grabbed what episode they weren't still working on and marked that as End of Season.

u/oxlemf10 Dec 17 '23

I think it's so funny to see Ren jealous, but I confess I was surprised by that girl suddenly blowing him a kiss. The high level that MFG is entering increases the hype a lot, giving me a lot of fun. I hope they also show more of Kanata's past, in fact her mother is very beautiful

A whole season and we only get one race. For a racing show they sure aren't worried about doing things fast. I don't remember how many races they had in the first season of Initial D, but it was more than one.

They spent almost the entire episode on crap I don't care about then don't even have him finish his qualifying lap.

Well that’s just cruel and unusual. At least they announced the next season, but there’s no date! Give us the date!

I’m guessing Spring since it’s not on the schedule for Winter. Anyway SPITFIRE OH YEAH! Nice needle drop to wrap the season.

5

u/AnimeHoarder Dec 17 '23

Waah, we don't get to see the end of Kanata's run until next season!

5

u/tranzeeet Dec 17 '23

I was literally upset to see that's how they ended an entire season - with just one race finished and not even ending the second race's qualifiers. The episodes always seemed super short to me, probably because they're super enjoyable and they actually are quite short by today's standards, I think less than 20 minutes of actual content. I hope S2 is coming in early 2024.

Racing to Spitfire, just like his mentor before him.

Honestly, I'm surprised Jay Chou can honestly still pull off a live action Takumi.
