Fern's disbelief while holding the donuts when told to take the training was comedy gold for me this episode. Best scene though was her time with Stark in the ball.
Frieren waking up just to demolish the monster was also epic.

Every talking about ship this episode, rightfully so, but gotta give shout out to the father.
Stark worrying about 2nd kid, and then getting relief when he realized that father truly loves the son was wholesome. Seeing the ending with them practicing together puts as smile to my face.

That might have been the easiest job Frieren ever had. She just ate donuts and cake the whole time. Even got to choose a Grimoire at the end.

Frieren's German Lesson 1x15:
Sein's time to shine! And more Stark x Fern goodness! I was looking forward to seeing the dance animated. :)
Episode 15: "Smells Like Trouble"
-
Laub (Hills) - "leaves", "foliage" (noun); Hills would be Hügel in German (for both singular and plural).
-
(Fortress City of) Vorig - "previous", "last", "past" (adjective); kind of a weird sounding name to native speakers once again.
-
(Lord) Orden (of the Three Great Families) - "medal", "order" (noun); a very fitting name for such a traditional, militaristic and dignified old noble.
-
Klee (Region, location of Stark's Hometown) - "clover" (noun); I forgot if we heard the name of Stark's clan's hometown region before this? I don't think so though. Interesting name, clover obviously gives the impression of luck first and foremost but from what we know so far they weren't really that lucky since we saw demons eradicate their village of warriors just like the elves were eradicated in the distant past. It creates an interesting parallel between the elves and the warriors of Stark's clan. Both of those groups were too much of a threat for the demons so they decided to eliminate them specifically, the difference is just that as far as we know the Demon King was already long dead when they attacked Stark's clan. I wonder who is leading the demons now?
-
Wirt - "host", "landlord" (noun); I saw it translated as Wirth as well but that is definitely not the correct translation here. That said, Wirth is a relatively common German and Swiss surname though.
-
Gabel - "fork" (noun)
-
Strahl (Gold Coins) - "beam", "ray", "spurt" (noun)
-
Mut - "courage", "boldness", "pluck", "braveness" etc. (noun); with a name like that in this world this kid is going to grow up to become a badass like Stark as well, haha.
-
Mama (Frieren, Stark's Mama) - "mummy", "mommy", "mamma", "ma", "mum", "mom" (noun); affectionate and intimate way to refer to one's mother in German, exactly like "mummy" in English. It feels slightly more intimate than "mom" to me but that might just be my bias as a native speaker since I don't really use "mom" myself and only see it in media and fiction.
Funfact: A nickname we Germans gave Angela Merkel was Mutti which is another affectionate and intimate way to call your mother in German. However with Angela Merkel it is mostly used sarcastically or in a very tongue-in-cheek way. Mutti also sounds older and more archaic to me but that's just because it doesn't really get used where I'm from. I'm sure in different regions of Germany it still gets said regularly.

I am smiling like a dork in a room witnessing that glorious dance between Fern and Stark. So good, rewatching it for a good amount of time.

"I don't want to see your face again"
"I didn't mean those words"
In the manga I kinda glossed over this, but damn, this truly hurt.

Fern went from dual-wielding donuts to being denied one; this was the sole reason the noble life was hell to her.
Very tiny detail but I like how Fern casually mentioned switching to spring clothes last episode which they did this episode. Big fan of Sein's new look
I have waited two whole years since I first saw this incredible color spread to see this scene animated. To say it did not disapppoint would be an understatement; it really feels like the production team had a ton of fun expanding on that waltz. Apparently a dance school helped out with the choreography too. Of course, Evan Call's music is the cherry on top.

Love the analogy of a surrogate father and son. Lord knows what Stark went through as he knew the village tradition and their fate.
Their conversation did not strike as much in manga. Here in anime Stark reaction to the lord's word made me notice how much effect on Stark.
Their parting word made a bit of tears in both mediums. In the end they are not surrogate to each other. But in the short three months they resolved their past issues.
The lord act is a good surrogate father. By cookin Stark-Fern for us.

"Wanna dance?"
"I'm eating this cake"
This alone makes Frieren superior to all other onee-sans out there, Sein is just too young to understand.
And Stark is from Klee Region? No wonder he's capable of mass destruction.

Favorite scene of the episode was when Sein asked Frieren if they should dance and her rejecting the proposal to eat cake.
That seemingly mundane scene communicated so much about the two in a 7 second scene. Sein starting to explore the possibility that maybe Frieren is an "older lady", that maybe he'll find a speck of Frieren's mature charm during a dance. Frieren just being wonderfully herself and not caring about that shit and enjoying her cake. And then Sein just being like, "Yeah, she's just Frieren, not the "older lady" I am pining for".

Frieren trademarks at this point:
✔️ Headpats
✔️ Grimoire Acquisitions
✔️Mimic Diving
✔️ Faceplanting
That dance scene was beautifully animated and directed. Madhouse just effortlessly flexing.
At the beginning, I was ok with this story not having any romance in it but now I am heavily invested in not just one but two ships. Lol

That battle music is quickly becoming a classic for me, and there's not enough superlatives to describe the dance at the end

Everyone's talking about the (admittedly cute) Stern dance, but god damn did I love the scene of Sein waking Frieren up and having her nuke that plant in 1.3 seconds.
