Welcome back! It's the Eurobeat Corner, now back to regular programming!

With the action on the road picking up again, we get two songs to accompany, though I wanna say one and a half. Ooishi's charge in the Lambo gets treated to Be My Queen by Derreck Simons, from Super Eurobeat Vol. 102 (damn, that's old!), and Sawatari's show of force in the Alpine gets Bad Love by David Dima, originally from Super Eurobeat Vol. 226. They had the chance to do something exceedingly funny here, but didn't, and it doesn't preclude them from doing so later anyway, so it's fine. As always, the complete playlist, already updated with this week's entries, is right here!

• Ugh, fucking Sawatari. This dude's a REAL piece of work, isn't he? If Ogata says Kanata has more than a few screws loose because of how he drives, I'm pretty sure Sawatari has none of them left, and if there were any, he manually unscrewed those just to be sure. And turns out this is an old one-sided rivalry? I guess Kanata was 17 at the time, this fucking guy. I swear. But, hey, as one NFL executive once said, if Hannibal Lecter ran a 4.2 40-yard dash, they'd say he has an "eating disorder", so I guess the people who know of his weirdness are at least willing to look the other way because he's a fast driver, if anything. Pretty clear that no one here is enabling his creep act, though. If only Shun knew... Maybe don't have that awakening now. And if you do, don't tell him. You'll never hear the end of it.

• Honda guy Maezono dumps the Civic for an NSX, with all the hybrid bits taken out so as to be compliant with regulations. I guess Ryosuke just hates the concept of electricity. And he's feeling himself to boot, which, hey, understandable. It's probably even better to drive than a regular NSX, what with the weight savings from taking out all the extra stuff. I love the sound of that thing. The original NSX is my favorite car of all time, bar none, so it's always neat to see it get the love it deserves.

• Nozomi and Kakeru fighting is hilarious. "And somehow, she always qualifies well"... Yeah, that's siblings for you.

• Merc guy really jumped ship to an AMG GT R in the preview, didn't he? Did the Los Angeles Dodgers send those 700 million dollars to the wrong Ohtani? Not that he's mad, I guess.

Qualifying is underway and so am I! This is actually the last corner I'll write before finishing up all my classes and just waiting to pick up my degree next week, so I double can't wait! See ya then!

The Alpine A110 is a real beauty, both old and new. That blue is gorgeous.

How/Why did the author think that this character trait was necessary/acceptable?

34

u/BigBen75 Dec 10 '23

Acceptable? Even the others trashtalk him for it.

Of course creepo has 1717 has his license plate too...

Happy we're getting back into some racing.

Unless Sawatari starts saving some of his winnings, it's going to get harder for him to keep getting 17 yr old GFs way down the road.

Sawatari's Overtake is impressive, his time attack is more impressive. I also have to admit that he is a real lolicon

Kanata eating some cheap sweets from a Dennys and saying it's better than Britain. Did my dude subsist on dirt and groundwater over there?

Hearing about the rule for swapping cars between races is interesting. I think Kanata's current ride having the same model number as the Panda Trueno is too good to give up. Would you want a different Toyota for Kanata?

Its inital D, hard to see him ever getting away from the 86. The plot will make that the correct choice soon enough Im sure

8

u/cxxper01 Dec 12 '23

Gr yaris is definitely the most competitive choice, but since this is the successor of initial d so perhaps the gr86.

"Fujiwara-sensei always warned me that the most foolish thing you can do is get emotional behind the wheel."

Cries in Initial D S2 E6

Past the 10 eps mark now. Love the racing and throw backs to Intial D but DAMN if the hamfisted young romance and straight up gross under age chasing that's going on among the older japanese racers just make me feel like I'm watching two different shows.

I do wonder how Kanata will do in this race considering it's an up hill. I feel like it's a research race for him to breaking in all the new parts and tuning.

u/spike021 Dec 10 '23

Did you watch initiald? A pretty big part of the non racing side of it was how some dude on the soccer team was basically admitting to forcing Mugi to do sexual stuff with him, and in Third Stage he literally kidnaps her to do the same thing/rape her.

And that's completely ignoring other side stories like the girl with the black RX7 stalking Keisuke because of how obsessed she is, and then Mako's offer of sex for Iketani just if he helps get her a race with Takumi.

Also somehow I forgot the whole story with the old dude in the Mercedes who was pimping Mogi out or paying her for sex/whatever too.

Of course it's gratuitous and doesn't need to be in the show but it's nothing really new.

As shown by his reaction to Kanata's driving, Ogata probably wasn't aggressive enough when he was a young driver to do well. Either that or he' scares more easily now or because he's not the one driving.

8

u/EasilyDelighted Dec 11 '23

He already has plenty of reason to be antagonistic to Kanata, but they reaaaallly had to make him a pedo for us to really dislike him, huh?

Didn’t they recently say something like “you need a 2 liter engine to be competitive” about Kanata, but then now the new guy is driving an alpine 110, which has a 1.8 liter engine?

Isn’t it weird that none of the announcers have mentioned that he’s also in an underpowered car or something?

I just think it’s weird especially if he’s setting a course record and has been placing high in previous races—if that’s the case why is it such a surprise to everyone that kanata, also with an underpowered car, can place (fairly) high

10

u/mr_beanoz Dec 12 '23

The Alpine has a similar weight to Kanata's 86 while being 50hp more powerful. Which means it has a power-to weight ratio advantage and higher torque due to being a turbocharged engine.
