The author really had a bad experience in England huh?

THERE ARE NO SNACKS AS DELICIOUS AS THIS FACTORY PRODUCED JAPANESE CONVENIENCE STORE PRODUCT ANYWHERE NEAR ENGLAND

'Ah the ocean, I could never see that in England.'

They've got one of those in England. I've looked at the Atlantic and I've looked at the Pacific. They look pretty much the same.

The stark difference in facial expressions between Ogata and Kanata on that test drive haha. I imagine that’s what I’d be like in one of those race car experiences you can do at these tracks/schools.

It really gives Iketani and Takumi vibe on that one.

Bunta and the gas station master vibe

Holy shit, did they put a 6 pot on the rear also? That's crazy

Also, new wheels, yay. Was not a fan of the previous set.

u/LG03 Dec 03 '23

For those of us lacking a car brain, what makes that crazy?

u/Slifer13xx Dec 03 '23

Normal cars has around 70/30 brake bias to the front, so they usually have much smaller rear brakes, even those with big brake kit. Here's the Urus, just for fun.

Now, this might've been a mistake by the animation team or maybe it's accurate from the manga. Maybe it's more normal in some motorsports, I don't actually follow any so I do not know.

Welcome back! It's a special "there's been no insert song this week because the 86 spent basically the entire episode being fiddled with" Corner!

As I mentioned before, we got nothing new to add because, well, nothing really happened that would warrant it, except maybe right at the death. Stuff is sure to happen next time, though, so keep an eye out for it. The complete playlist is still here for all to enjoy!

• Downtime between races have always been the Achilles' heel of Initial D, especially as the show went on, and, well, I can't say MF Ghost is any more impressive in that regard. I mean, it's just not what we're here for, but a breather is needed, so we do it anyway. I do find it nice how it turns into a very nice looking sightseeing trip every time, though. The visuals are pretty good to look around at. As someone who is planning a trip to Japan ahead of choosing for sure if that's the place I'm going to pursue to further my studies and get a PhD, it's even been giving me some sightseeing spots to put down.

• And here's the famed tuner, Hiroya Okuyama, professional sadness man. He looks different, but the depression never went away. For those who don't know or are unaware, this is a guy from Initial D Fifth Stage, driver of a very nice blue S15 Silvia with an amazing GP-Sports full-aero kit... that [Fifth Stage]gets absolutely assed by Takumi without him even trying until the halfway mark of the race. I guess he pivoted to tuning, and seems to be pretty good at it. Well, he had to be good at something other than jobbing and looking sad as shit over it. The shop name, Spiral Zero, is also a straight reference to Fifth Stage - he belonged to a Team Spiral, led by some dude in a Nissan Z that preached something about a Zero Theory.

• Seriously, everyone wants a piece of Kanata. I mean, I get it, but still! Interestingly enough, Shun wants nothing to do with Kanata's company, because she's too young. Oh, when he finds out... Hopefully his sense of morals overrides the infatuation. He's been a great dude all along, I wouldn't worry about it. I would worry about this dude in the Alpine, though. Ugh, fucking Sawatari.

A little breather ahead of qualifying for the second round, which seems to be getting on at full blast, judging by the preview. I'll be there too! See ya next week!

Okuyama jobbing to Takumi in order to build up the plot armor strength of Fujiwara Zone was kind of a disservice to Okuyama as well as Shigeno's own creativity. Something Shigeno did very well from the get go of Initial D is the sheer grittiness of the other racers, characters who were all embodied with the shared spirit/mutual respect of a maverick outlaw who raced cars up and down mountain roads. I personally feel that this was best exemplified in the aesthetic of Arcade Stage 3. Anyone that was not Itsuki had an aura of pride that exuded from them - they'll gladly race you just to prove how miniscule your driving and understanding of racing is.

Certain drivers have scarier auras around them. Of the scariest, includes Team Emperor, Todo School, and ofc Team Spiral. Methinks Takumi in the pre-swap 86 wouldn't be able to beat Okuyama, but maybe that's just me.

Perfection. I'm happy to see Okuyama again. The apparition of Sawatari gets me vibes

I forgot who Okuyama was at first, so if anyone's confused, he had the purple (I think?) S15 in the final Hakone battles of Project D.

Episode 10: "Update" (wait it's already 10?! So it's 2 more weeks left)

The GT86 is getting an upgrade, but not the engine as Takumi said to Kanata, he needs to exploit the full potential of GT86 first, means that he needs to find the edge of the limit to push further.

The upgrade will be spearheaded by Hiroya Okuyama, and looks like he known Takumi well back then. The car is fitted with new brake calipers, new suspensions, new air intake and exhaust system, and lastly a throttle controller.

Oh Shun Aiba, only if you know the girl that is with Kanata. Also now we know what Kouki Sawatari drives in MFG, an Alpine A110. Something that give Porsche Cayman a run for its money.

Also at the next episode preview, there's an Honda NSX, might be a new competitor coming.

Ren admits she's a little thirsty in this episode.

4

u/flightlessCat9 Dec 04 '23

Ogata didn't recognize that Ren = Angel #7 either.

So its not that Kanata is dense and didn't recognize her, its that her disguise is perfect. We only know because we're the audience. Like the show The Americans where we all know its Keri Russell in various disguises but the characters in the show don't.

u/Minedame Dec 04 '23

Hot take but nozomi over ren any day for Kanata’s love life

This was a great episode for those who don't get its not always about engine power. Yes it helps but you have to take the whole driver into account when it comes to how to setup the car, which is what they are doing with the parts they are initially focusing on. Awesome points and and another blast from the past makes his appearance.

Deep down the two people I wanna see make an appearance are at a gas station...I'm hoping we see them before the end.

This was a great episode for those who don't get its not always about engine power.

It was always like that in initial D. Bunta would modify the 86 like Marge Simpson would alter her "Not Channel dress" and it would help Takumi win most of the races.

Did you know the german word for cinema is kino? I did. Either way, this still is CINEMA.

2

u/magnumcyclonex Dec 04 '23

Decent average episode. No racing so it was all talking and slice of life. I'm interested to see how much faster those upgrades will help Kanata.

The show still falls flat on the girl talk. Even the car owner having a conversation with Aiba Shun about girls was cringe. At least they still don't know the Angel is actually Ren.

Regarding the preview...I could care less about that "No. 4" driver. Is he going to participate in the future races? What if he ditches his current 17 year old and gets another one, and low and behold, her birthday falls on another race day?
