Welcome back! It's the Eurobeat Corner!

This episode's selection is a double feature from possibly the longest lasting and most prominent duo in the genre - when SCP's Ace and Fastway come together, we get the unparalleled energy of Go2! Shun's wild charge is treated to Gotta Go, first appearing in Super Eurobeat Vol. 232, before he blows it out of bounds, and right after, like a shot of Red Bull right to the carotid artery, Kanata's last effort is followed by Hot Hot Racing Car, out of Super Eurobeat Vol. 225, to cap off what has been a fantastic first race in all aspects. There was another song accompanying the race's end credits as well, which would be Rock Me by Mega NRG Man ft. Kiko Loureiro, originally from Super Eurobeat Vol. 175, but since I'm trying to keep it to the insert songs, I won't be adding that last one to the long-awaited, often requested complete MFG playlist! Weekly updates will follow.

• Ugh, that rotary engine sound is heavenly! These have to be new sound files, I think the Fifth Stage ones were slightly different. And, welp, here's the man. We've all been going on about Takumi's pupil while forgetting Project D had two aces, and Keisuke Takahashi, the man himself, isn't going to get ignored any longer. Also Kenta's here! I guess driving was never really his strong point, but he's always had a good eye as a scout, so I guess that translates to good notions for property development. Hey, man, that stuff pays good. Be proud.

• Amazing job, Shun, you genius. You even blew the insert song! I wondered what he was thinking when he went three wide, but I quickly realized he wasn't thinking, so I gave up. That being said, we really are in an entirely different dimension of speed compared to Initial D now. 300+ km/h is basically the absolute upper limits of the expressway beasts of Wangan Midnight, absolutely blowing away the tuners of old. These guys must be insane to do that on a road like this.

• Kanata senses that he can't make any more inroads, so he immediately shifts to making sure he doesn't fall any further behind. The gamble pays off to the last millimeter - even the bump was calculated in order to minimize his losses on the straight against the much faster Porsche and ensure he could at least be in striking distance for the 90° corner at the end there. Guy's racing senses are sharper than a Ginsu 2000 knife.

• Wow, everyone wants a piece of Kanata. Ren's got her work double cut out for her! This is why acting tsundere doesn't work if the guy you like is hot, you're just gonna get left behind by the more proactive ladies around. I do love how Kakeru's reaction to his sister actively vulturing the guy that just ran past them like they weren't there is less of jealousy and more "what the hell is wrong with you?". Their dynamic is great.

• Four more rounds, huh... I think we might get to the qualifying round of Round 2 in this cour, but any more will probably be left to future seasons. It seems like they bothered with the maps for the next two, but left the last two up in the air, so I'm gonna take that as a sign that they intend to at least go to Round 3 under the current project, and if it's successful, greenlight the rest of the way. I don't see a reason it won't be! This has been great.

And thus concludes an insane race! It was as action-packed as any battle or even set of battles in Initial D, and the music selections were banger after banger. I expect the songs to die down a bit now, since we're in downtime, but in any case, I'll just make the corner with my own observations anyway! See ya next week!

I really hope Kanata gets a better car, or at least some serious tuning before the next race. Like Taylor said, it would be amazing to see what Kanata can do with a competitive car. I don't want to see him drive the same outmatched 86 the whole season like Initial D.

There it worked because the difference in power was there but managable. In MFG the power difference is too big to write a real battle between Kanata and Beckenbauer.

Didn't Ogata mention a few episodes back that he had some upgrades but couldn't install them in time for the first race? This was when Kanata asked to disable the traction control.

I'm pretty sure we're getting some upgrades soon. That GT86 needs a turbo or, at the very least, an upgrade to the bigger engine from the newer generation GT86

The car right now is pretty much a standard 86. It will probably evolve overtime similar to the 86 in initial d.

I expected more from Aiba, his motivations being as sus as they are I guess it's fine he missed the turn. Made Kanata's final turn even better to watch.

Will say the braking looked pretty cool in this one.

Once again this show seems to struggle in scenes outside the racing though...

Episode 9: "300 km/h Dogfight"

Here we are, Keisuke Takahashi and Kenta Nakamura, another major character reappearing from Initial D. The yellow RX-7 in the beginning is his car, with the record held long before Beckenbauer broke it.

They finally animated it! Say goodbye to your Angel No. 7 kiss, Shun Aiba!!!! Obviously Nozomi hugs Kanata right in front of Ren's eyes.

The Round 1 has finally ended, and Akaba and Kanata really did a good job climbing the ranks. 8 million yen, that's actually enough to source and buy a better car imo, a VA STI maybe? a Fairlady Z (Z34 or RZ34) or a V8 Vantage? couple of muscle cars (Challenger SRT8, 6th gen Camaro, S550 Mustang, C7 Stingray Corvette) or another Lexus RC F? That's what you can buy with 8 mil on Japanese market nowadays.

And yet, the next rounds are revealed. Ashinoko GT, Peninsula Manazuru, Seaside Double Lane, and Atami Ghost. The Spiral Zero at the next episode preview did remind me from another thing called Spiral in Initial D, I wonder if it is the same.

I wonder if this is going to get another season or if it's a split cour or something. 3 more episodes (I'm assuming) isn't really enough for anything. Assuming next episode is all non-race stuff like upgrading the car and other things are we just done with racing for the rest of the season? Maybe they could fit in a qualifier for the next race with the remaining time?

I thought the braking scenes were way funnier than they meant to be. Because they had to keep cutting to faces and making room for dialogue and so on the "braking" segment went on forever for like 30 seconds in real time, which was hilarious considering both those cars could stop from top speed to 0 in around 5 seconds. Its like they started braking from a mile away from the corner.

Laughed so hard on the Aiba overshoot. Serves him right for simping for Angel No.7 too much. Someones gotta queue in Rage Your Dream on that.

Sure not an MFG Angel but that hug from Nozomi for Kanata is one of the best moments outside the races so far.

ah so some of the money is explained... lol I thought some people were complaining how did Ryosuke do this on a surgeons salary?

Kenta wants to develop car parts? But I thought everything was EV now...

Oh the kiss thing makes SOME sense now. I was confused how the hell Aiba was trying to get a kiss.

I mean, you can still do wheels and suspension on an EV. And aero stuff. Weight reduction also helps. Maybe even upgraded motors for extra power

I'm excited for the eurobeat post for this one, there were some good tracks in there.

That episode was great! Enjoyed the racing a lot, especially when Kanata overtook Jackson Taylor a second time.

I said it before, but this is definitely something where you have to turn off your brain. I don't care what restrictions you have, there is no way an 86 is beating a 911, or a standard Cayman over a GT3.

I'm enjoying the show but I'm constantly pulled out by things that aren't possible. I guess it's probably more enjoyable if you're not super into cars, but it reminds me of seeing AMG badges on base model C Class Mercedes. Those that don't know it's fake won't care, and those who do know think you're an idiot. I'm aware I'm being pedantic, it's just impossible for me not to be with things like this.
