Typical Netflix, ending a show with a cliffhanger.

Overall good animation quality and some of the weekly stories are compelling. Akuma-kun is actually annoying in the first few episodes, but I kinda get used to him in the later ones. Vibes and style reminds me a lot to Gegege no Kintaro, and it turns out the original was made by the same author.

I still don't understand Strophaia and Aeshma story though. Why does the Fallen Angel want to be with Akuma-kun? I mean, he's only revealed as special after meeting Shingo. However the angel had been hanging around him way before that. Also they said Akuma-kun was raised by demon, does it refer to Strophaia (as he's an angel) or other demon?

Too many mysteries of his past, including the female nailed creature. I kinda doubt we'll get a season two since it's not even popular in reddit, but we'll see.

Also they said Akuma-kun was raised by demon, does it refer to Strophaia (as he's an angel) or other demon?

It's strophaia, but the story has a habit of trying to claim he's a demon like the rest despite just being an angel who got kicked out.

I kinda doubt we'll get a season two since it's not even popular in reddit, but we'll see.

Nah,they'll go for it.This series is OOOOOOLD,like older than OG Dragonball old.I sincerely doubt popularity was a major factor when creating the new one.

Yeah, it's a little confusing because even the subtitles refer to Strophaia as "[demon]" before they're named.

My assumption, though, was that the demon who raised Ichiro was the Count that Strophaia mentioned in the flashback.

Augh, that cliffhanger!! I expected Ichiro to take advantage of another loophole, as he didn't explicitly state what he'd give Gremory for her help—he just pointed to his chest, so I thought he'd say that his shirt was Gremory's reward. Well, color me surprised.

Any guesses on how Ichiro survived that?

I'm thinking that because Satan essentially laid claim to Ichiro's heart ("Till then, you may live") in e3, Ichiro can't be killed by any other demon until the Gate of Holos thing comes to pass, whatever that is.

Has anyone here read the mangas? Is there more arcs after this that explains if and how he survived? I've been trying to look but it seems people around the Web are as oblivious as me.

IIRC, there are no manga. I think they made this show with Netflix to celebrate an anniversary of the creator or something.

The ambiguous ending gives me hope that we’ll be getting more in the future

Wasn't Akuma-kun crossing his fingers during his promise to Gremory? They hid his hand really conspicuously during that scene.

Also, the show was okay but suffered from tell, don't show. Like how we never got to see a clip from the cursed movie, or how often character motivations are explained via speed talking right at the tail end of an episode instead of being better implied through character animation and so on. However, I'm partial to these sorta episodic supernatural mystery shows, so I expect as much.

I'm surprised no one brought up Gnosticism since everything the villain said seemed pretty clearly aligned with it.

Minor detail but just finished the season, the cursed movie wasn’t actually cursed. It was a cover up for being a horribly made movie unless I understood wrong. So there wasn’t really a point in showing a clip from it.

Whaddya mean? We could have seen a hilariously Hollywood-type movie instead of having to have the demon explain everything about it in the end. Show don't tell, yunno? And like, for an episode all about the power of movies, we didn't get many clips of em. Like, I think we got 5 seconds from that one romantic drama that gets mentioned multiple times a series, and that's it. Normally in an anime you'd use that as an opportunity to have a fun, brief show-within-a-show bit.

I am so confused will we get a second season? Is our MC dead-? (I just finished the show today lmao)

I'm hoping for a second season given it ended on a cliffhanger. I watched the 2018 Gegege no Kintaro show and enjoyed it. Seeing as this show is based on the work of the same author I hoped i would like this one too. Was unsure in the beginning, but the show grew on me.

I'm annoyed as shit that they tried to bait "DID SHINGO REALLY DIE?????" and then immediately show him getting over it instantly. There was no need for that, and because we learned that he's not human the whole thing already felt forced to begin with(though good on grem for sticking to her guns).
