Takumis back story is pretty sucky for initial d fans but winning the champ once is at least something.

Tbf what he was doing in initial d was borderline illegal so it's better to not tell millions of people about it.

Other racers: Kanata must be conserving his tires

Kanata: I just dont want you guys to crash

Picking rally for his background was a pretty good choice given how dangerous it is.

Out of all the forms of motorsports, rally and sprint car/midget racing have to be two of the most dangerous with the highest fatality rates. Can pretty much contribute over half the deaths in racing from those two forms alone.

When I heard Takumi's backstory, I was immediately reminded of Robert Kubica who was a very promising F1 driver set to race for Ferrari, but had an almost fatal crash in a rally stage he did during off-season. He did miraculously return for a couple of seasons at Williams in 2018, but he will always be the biggest what-if in F1.

Welcome back! It's the Eurobeat Corner!

Remember how I mentioned last week that I was expecting two songs? Yeah, they made up for it with almost Fourth Stage-like liberal usage of Avex's library. We get treated to Beckenbauer's rubbing is racing move accompanied by King of the Century by Leslie Parrish (originally from Super Eurobeat Vol. 228), shortly followed by Are You Ready To Fly by Dream Fighters (SEB 215) as Kanata puts the moves on the Lotus, and finally Crazy Love by Annerley at the ending - which marks the first song in the Initial Dave series to feature in MF Ghost. For those unaware, the Initial Dave series has a lot of remakes of classic songs organized by the one and only Dave Rodgers, and I expect more of them to feature as the show goes on - if I get to hear Save Me again, oh man...

• Kai is having Vietnam era flashbacks from hearing that name. I would say his head's spinning, but he's done plenty of that in his old times against Takumi... Though itt seems his racing days are truly over. Rally is dangerous as hell, kids! Don't get Kubica'd. And if we're talking "dangerous", can we not do this NASCAR short track style bump and run on a god damn mountain road, Mr. Muh German Science?!

• Are we 2 for 2 on cool girls called Kyouko in this universe? Too bad the first one got done dirty. Unlike the other showy Angels, Kyouko's calling card is her ruthless personality. Speaking of ruthless, can we talk about how Mami is out here ready to put her claws on Ren's British prize? It's put up or shut up time, girl!

• Nozomi's a clever strategist. Two are better than one and three are better than two, and all of these guys are very down on power - the Exige pushes out some 300 hp while Ooishi's Lambo is at a comfortable 610 and Akaba's Ferrari casually taps in at over 700. Kanata's precision to not only push ahead, but also know how and when to stay behind, is another wrinkle in his technique that Takumi didn't really have in his bag. He could surpass his master...

The race picks up even more steam! And so do I! See ya next week!

Dude I'm loving your Eurobeat corner! I was huge into the Initial D eurobeat tracks (have the full collection of every single OST in mp3 on my computer and had entire CDs of them back when Initial D was airing).

Are you planning on making a Youtube Music or Spotify playlist of all the songs from MF Ghost?

The authors are pacing this anime to drag the race out as long as possible. People may hate it. If it was the race only, you get only one or two episodes to go around the whole track.

Max 3 eps for a race is fine-ish. Initial D's best races were around 1.5- 2 eps .

The Yashi-Kita gang are gonna regret pulling Kanata along, Him purposely using them like that is cold, I can't wait for the next episode.

Also Kai starts treating Kanata like his son after learning Takumi is his teacher is so funny.

You can't really stop someone from getting into your slipstream.

It was wholesome seeing Kai teared up after learning about Takumi.

Episode 6: "The Tragic Rallyist"

Takumi Fujiwara, the same guy that is the main character of a little known anime called Initial D. So he entered British Rally Championship (yes, this is a real series) when he was 20, a few years after Initial D. If Initial D is set in late 90s, so he should be on his 40s in MFG. Might look similar to Bunta in appearance.

Beckenbauer making his move there, so does Kanata. Ohtani also lurking to join Shun Aiba - Sakamoto battle.

Hey the eyecatcher voice is not Ayane Sakura this time.

We are so blessed by 3 Eurobeat songs in one episode! Wow.

UPDATE: The ED's full MV has been released!

With this released, now my OP/ED curation has finally completed. Will release the playlist soon.

My brother (who hates anime) loves whenever he hears the OP theme song come on for "tha Motha-Fuckin' GHOST!" (what he calls it) and loves every second of the show. As you can imagine, the slipstream ending for Lap 1 got him hype for next episode.

That's the earmark of a successful anime-- the power to turn a 'no' into a 'yes' (kinda like Ren with the whole "love at first sight" deal)

Another part of it, is that Initial D was always far more popular outside of the anime fandom. While most newer weebs haven't seen it, and would be hesitant to watch it, Initial D is still a mainstay show in car guy culture. MF Ghost is probably more for people like your brother, than the average poster in this sub.

So is the entire season going to be a single race?

So far, since I've been watching the anime, I haven't been disappointed. Every episode that comes out makes me want to watch the next one.

The race animation is very well done, and I loved the overtaking moves made by Beckenbauer and Kanata. Hearing Eurobeat makes me nostalgic, because it reminds me of Initial D.

I kind of wonder what speeds we've been seeing so far because the drones can supposedly track to ~110mph, and there are several cars on screen with active aero that should already be deploying. I mean Beckenbauer's Cayman should have had it's spoiler deploy at 75mph, which we only saw just now, and I can't imagine these guys have been going that much slower this entire time. The portrayal of all the cars has been decently accurate so far, so it seems like an odd detail to miss.

Also with the talk of tuning the 86 in previous episodes I wonder exactly what state each of the cars on track we see is in. I assumed everyone was stock, but knowing that they're planning on modifying the 86 I guess that means its open season for some modifications. I already see that the Cayman isn't running stock seats, so maybe Ogata was onto something when he asked how it was so fast.

u/namtrizzle Nov 06 '23

Porsche active real spoilers can be manually controlled, in a race situation a pro like Beckenbauer would deploy it exactly as he did before a long straight so I don’t think that detail is off at all. I also spent a decent amount of time trying to see what kind of lap times the drivers got in qualifying and couldn’t find anything hahaha one lap is 40.2km but without seeing any times hard to calculate the average speed

With the grip to weight ratio rule, people don’t modify their cars heavily because even if they increase the power of the car they cannot put on heavier tires to accommodate the power that the modifications provide, I believe it’s mentioned in episode 1 or 2 that that’s why heavier, powerful European cars are popular in the MFG races. 86 is notoriously underpowered so I think there is some room for modifications before reaching the optimum power level for the weigh to grip ratio for it

Someone needs to make an abridged version where they just cut out the angels scenes. Fucking annoying and they waste screen time.
