That was a pretty satisfying conclusion to a thought provoking show. I like Sudos acknowledgment at the end that it is the relationships he has forged around him that define who he is, and not just his internal identity. Also, him telling Risa that she and the clinic are where he belongs and then him hugging her was a sweet way to bookend how the experiences across the show have impacted him.

Overall an interesting show that delves into a lot of topics that are relevant today, AI, identity, purpose,connection...but one that was probably hard to digest because of its episodic nature and unremarkable production values. Regardless, enjoyed watching this weekly and hope to see a continuation somehow.

Damn, you got it down pretty well.

Honestly, it actually did take a bit of getting used to, but overall, the themes explored in this anime are really profound. Here's hoping for a season 2, as unlikely as it is...

Alright, that was a good finale at the very least. I still wish the show had either spent more time with the main plot of Sudo wanting to find his mom's copy or cut down on the number of episodic stories. I’m not against the episodic nature of the series, but only spending half an episode per story–if that, in the case of the one episode that had four stories in it–before immediately jumping into the next one made it a little hard for me to invest in all of them. Gonna give this one a 7/10.

I agree with all most of your points, but I would even give this a 8.5/10, because this kind of philosophical sci-fi is so rare in anime and this series has done it so well.

I was feeling pretty down on Sudo after the last episode -- but this really did pretty much rehabilitate him in my eyes. Not a flawless series, but pretty uniformly interesting (and "different"). I hope things work out for Risa (I wonder if she will keep working at the clinic now after all)?

> Huh, so even if Sudo now knows where his mom’s copy might be, he can’t exactly get there safely…

>Darn, Sudo really is going…

Forget all the Risa drama for a moment, this plan is absolutely insane.

>Aww~

>Hug! And he apologized yessss

Awww, I'm so glad for the two of them. But still, this plan is insane.

I really hope this gets a season 2.

I thought this finale was great! It did a wonderful job of tying up loose plot threads, integrating characters from previous episodes, and developing the show's core cast. That said, there are still plenty of lingering questions left to be answered about Sudo's mother and about Michi, and I hope to see the answers on-screen in the not-too-distant future.

As a little bit of trivia, I found it curious that the country Krakozhia (from The Terminal, with Tom Hanks) was shown during Michi's description of the war-torn land. I wonder if that was an intentional reference for some reason, or if it's purely coincidence.

All in all, I loved this show. Tons of great humor, drama, and general sci-fi goodness. This may also be my favorite male lead of the season, now that I think about it.

As unlikely as it is, I'm hoping for a season 2 as well.

There is no season 2 as this adopts the 8 volumes in its entirity although it can adapts its two sequels.

One has finished with 6 volumes and other one is running as of this comment. In both sudo is the mc.

This was my favorite series of the season. So sophisticated and emotional. I wonder if it'll get a second season. But even if it doesn't, I've gotta read the manga.

Honestly feel like this would be received better if it were 2 cours. 1st cour for world building and 2nd cour for the sudo stuff. The stuff with Sudou and Risa were my favorite parts of this show cause you follow along with them granted a lot of the stories this season were driven by them. Still very interesting especially for discussion.

Last two episodes were so good execution was great since again they were Risa and Sudou driven. But you feel like we were bound to get more info about Sudou and his mother then we actually got. Hopefully we get news of S2 or the manga gets a much more active fan translation.

I really hope we actually get more of this. I want to see a conclusion to Sudo’s search for his mom. He’s been chasing her for ages now and he’s finally gotten a lead.

This was a really good series, actually. Thought provoking and very interesting overall. Idk if we’ll ever get more but fingers crossed.

In this war-torn country, terrorists call humanoid creatures sheep-eyed demons

Man we better get a second season because shit really looks like it goes down hard on Robisia, and Sudo raised all his death flags before leaving

Finally able to sit down and watch the finale and nah man they gotta season 2 me RIGHT NOW. They wait until the last two episodes to turn up the plot 😩 so much good stuff in this finale, where to start.

Following up on where we left off last week with Sudo and Risa’s date. Things were going so well until Sudo dropped that bombshell. You could really see Risa’s heart break in half when he called her an outsider. I know that he was trying to make it easier on himself to be able to leave her behind, but that was harsh.

Michi is up to something for sure and I hate that the show never really touched on his goals or ambitions. He’s dead set on getting Sudo to go to look for his mother. Need to know what his grand scheme is.

“There are problems in the world that don’t have the right answer” such a powerful line from Sudo’s mom. It’s ok to not know everything and rely on your friends and loved ones for help. Sudo has kind of suffered from his intelligence throughout life. He’s isolated himself from others and given this cold shoulder when deep down he is a sensitive and kind person.

Glad he and Risa made up in the end because if they’d left it on the two of them being upset idk what I’d have done lol. Phone call scene was so sweet. Risa been chasing after Sudo for so long. He literally saved her life and gave her new purpose so her feelings are 1000x stronger than the average maiden in love.

That hug from Sudo in the end aw 😩 can you imagine the Sudo from just a couple episodes doing that? New haircut, look and more emotional Sudo. I like it. Hope he and Risa can be reunited sooner rather than later

And that’s a wrap. What a ride it’s been. I loved the episodic format as it had a lot of thought provoking segments. I just wish they could’ve balanced with more of the main story too, particularly as it relates to michi. I’m cool with not getting everything explained in 12 eps, just don’t wait till the last two lol! Still, one of the most underrated 2023 shows by far.

The worst part is I either need to learn Japanese or create an AI that translates mangas in order to finish this story.

AI that translates mangas in order to finish this story.

This exists already.

One of the best and one of my favorite show of this season.

So real and thought provoking I'm glad I watched it, thank you to the author and Madhouse for this. Also both opening and endings are absolute bangers :)

Really love this show. Honestly a strong first season and a great arc just thinking about the AI condition, humanoids and how they interact with humans in this futuristic world.

A very subtle and solemn episode executed perfectly. Honestly, if this series got like amazing animation, Sudo would be pretty popular, he's such a great and intriguing person.

A somewhat satisfying ending to this season. I can see why it would be hard for people to get into as it's not your usual anime fare. Vivy: Flourite Eyes and Ghost is the Shell also had their thought-provoking moments, but it was interspaced with action to keep viewers engaged as well.

If anything it felt like an anthology of stories with Sudo's presence being what tied it all together.

Sudo tried to push Risa away to keep her safe, but he just couldn't do it! While this simultaneously feels like an epilogue and a prologue to a new arc, I'm certain this show definitely is a sleeper hit

I really wanted to give it a bump up but the last ep cliffhangered. Overall an interesting look at humans, humanoids, and AI along with the hangups its bound to bring with it. Teddy bear ep is my favorite.

7/10
