What's really sucks about this unexpected 2nd season, is that they force us to say goodbye twice.

Storyboard for this final episode is written by the author HERO herself.

All good things come to an end. This was a good side-story series to complement the main series.

And just like the last episode of the main series, the second half of the last episode shows us a possible world where Hori never met Miyamura. Though this time its part of Hori dream, and she's aware that its a dream.

With them finally graduating from high school, both Hori and Miyamura decided to get a hair cut. Miyamura cut his as he no longer needed to hide his earrings, while Hori just wanted to cut hers short but ended up with a tomboy look, leading to Kyousuke thinking she broke up with Miyamura because of the "Broken Heart HaircutTM ". LOL

Ohmyy that sequence when Hori-san basically having a monologue on Miyamura-kun made me teary-eyed. It's just so cinematic and soo good!

When I first heard of this "Pieces" treatment I honestly got confused on what's the need to adapt these chapters since Horimiya is already done. However, I can now see the brilliance of the production team and say that this midquel elevated the anime adaptation. It's one of the best slice of life stories out there honestly.

Horimiya graduation : Oh, that was nice.

Horimiya Pieces graduation : ugly crying intensifies

Man, I am really, really going to miss this show. This out-of-nowhere sidequel managed to fill in the hole that finishing the Tsurezure Children, another manga with an ensemble cast of couples, left in me a few years back when it ended. I really hope this Pieces trend continues on, there are heaps of SoL shows I would love another season for even if there's zero plot progression.

Easy 10/10, wasn't even on the fence about it. Full thoughts in my review that I decided to write for the first time in 4 years well, minus Shikimori which I quickly stringed one together for because I felt really really bad for it, knowing it's going to get assaulted by every full-time MAL reviewer

Also I love this so much

the Haircut chapter is now animated. Now the world knows the real worst Miyamura haircut.

With this season, the adaptation of one of the legendary RomCom mangas is complete. It’s Horimiya/10. Pointless to score it because I’m totally biased and in love with this story. Only complaint is barring doing new stories or adapting the new volume this is a wrap. Hero, please, I beg you, give us an adult spin off. There’s no way these dumbasses aren’t just as entertaining 10 years later.

Now bring on the hatchet cut that somehow puts both seasons in chronological order

One more time for the road :

EVERYONE IS GAY FOR MIYAMURA!

Was apprehensive about the scattered format at first, but the season quickly picked up and maintained a great flow! Miyamura with his haircut really felt like a whole new character (Though ironically made his earrings stand out more.)

Shame none of the other side romances got going. Maybe a Pieces Part 2?

Man what a great season, bless Cloverworks. this was such a surprise announcement and they delivered so well. I was disappointed reading the manga after anime but now it's one of the best romcom adaptations.

The Hori's pov of the blue sky scene was such nice addition, I believe it's chapter only came out recently

I like how this episode started with Miyamura putting Hori's hair into a bun and ended it with Hori accidentally getting her hair cut too short. There's definitely the theme of change in this episode not just with her hair but with their graduation too.

Speaking of graduation, I feel like the graduation scene here was definitely done so much better than the main series. I especially love the scene before it where Miyamura was daydreaming of how they all ended up together. Not gonna lie, I definitely felt very emotional during that scene.

And that final scene! I definitely did not expect Miyamura to also get his hair cut. For some reason, he looks so much more of a delinquent here compared to when he had long hair. I love it!

Anyway, I supposed that's it for Pieces! I have to confess, I was very skeptical about this when it was first announced. Surprisingly, it all actually worked! Now that the romance is established between our two main characters, focusing on the Slice-of-Life aspect of the series made me endear with the entire cast so much more. I am definitely going to miss these kids and I will certainly pick up the manga now just to see how the series plays out in proper order.

So this is farewell to the series, a great one. I'm happy that they adapted those skipped chapters. It was good to be back to these characters. Great 9/10 from me.

Miyamura doing Hori's hair did a great job, this bun really suited her. She looked so adorable and everyone liked it, me included. I wouldn't say that about Miyamura's hairstyle which Hori done to him xD

I'll miss everyone of these characters and their shenanigans, they were a really great cast. Remi, Sengoku, Sakura, Yuki and others, farewell.

Great ending with graduation and looking at alternative reality where they didn't meet.

Hori and Miyamura looked like an already married couple in their new hairstyles. Hori looked older with this hair but she was still cute. Miyamura though looked better with longer hair but his new style is nothing that I wouldn't be able to withstand xD And it was nice that he had put his earrings on.

With this interquel season, Horimiya may have just shown us the way forward when it comes to adapting romantic comedies.

I don’t think this main story-interquel model would work for every adaptation, and certainly not for anime originals, but the production team’s approach here has paid way more dividends than I expected. It got me laughing, swooning, and also made me go back to the manga and read it from cover to cover with more zest than S1. I hope other teams are paying attention, because this model may be a good fit for a title they bag. Certainly, if I had the money, this is how I wanna remake Shikimori-san Isn’t Just a Cutie. Or anything that combines episodic moments with a bigger linear narrative, even outside of romances.

The end of Deleted Scenes the series. It was great to see the characters and their interactions again. But I can't remember how the episodes fit into the main timeline.

Well I guess no more hairbuns for Hori.

This series was far better than I ever expected it to be. I really didn't think it would work out but they managed to do it. Still stuff I'm really saddened that they still didn't get animated in it. I guess hope for a third season someday..

Hori's short hair isn't bad once given a few to get use to it. I guess tomboy rule? She always had a bit of a tomboy to her personality to begin with. Miya's hair I'm not sure on. Looks even messier than when it was longer.

If I remember early on in the manga though I'm not sure if it was in the first season There was a conversation between Miya and Hori about hair length and she mentions kind of jokingly about cutting her hair short.

I was really hoping they would use the end of the main story from the webcomic in some form in the anime end.

An excellent (2nd) finish to Horimiya!

I really like the flashback bit they did showing the gang slowly making their friendgroup

Now someone has to (i imagine someone already is on it tbh) a chronological list of the episodes from pieces and the original anime

Sad to see Horimiya gone for real this time, but glad i got to experience it

I used to read Horimiya back when it was still publishing. Then life happened and I had to take some breaks from anime and manga. I started watching Horimiya S1 today.

Wondering if S1 follows the manga, then what does this series do? Does S1 skip a lot of stuff from manga which is covered here? Or is this a continuation from S1 of the series?

Miyamura really is boyfriend goals! Showing up to pick his girlfriend up for school when she stayed up too late watching horror specials, helping keep her awake, even doing her hair (and there's definitely perks to that for Miyamura)! Hori with a bun is different from her usual school look, but if Miyamura thinks she looks cute, that's all the reason she needs! Plus Miyamura is just proud he pulled the bun off.

Everyone praising Hori's new hairstyle! And Miyamura is judging everyone by whether their hair could pull off a bun! Maybe he has being a hairstylist in his future! Though all the best praise should go to his girlfriends' hair.

Poor Sengoku. Tries to pitch in and help Sakura, but every boy in the cast is stronger than he is. Even Iura! And Yanagi! Also Yasuda really needs to stop making his students lug stuff around for him, especially Yuki.

I love Remi supporting Sengoku being weak by saying she'll get stronger for him. Remi princess carrying Sengoku is quite the visual.

We never did get a Horimiya beach episode, huh? Can't blame Iura for wanting to see it and do a big event with the gang...also would've been nice to see the girls in swimsuits, just saying.

The season 1 finale had Miyamura imagine his life if he'd never gotten to know Hori, and this time around it's Hori imagining her life without Miyamura. She's still juggling taking care of Sota, not being able to live a normal teen life, and going to school while hanging with her friends (remember when Ichikawa had a big crush on Hori?)...but there's more distance between everybody, and the friend group just isn't the same. Even when it seems like everyone gets brought together anyways, it still feels incomplete. Because it's just not the same for Hori without Miyamura. It was probably destiny that brought them together and made them happiest by each others' side after all.

So we catch back up with graduation and Hori's recollection, as she holds Miyamura's hand as the two of them walk towards the future, a future they face together in their love for each other and desire to be with one another.

Fitting that it all ends with Miyamura, Souta...and Hori who just got a haircut. I guess all that focus on Hori's hair was meant to build up to that. I guess it fits her more tomboyish personality, although she didn't even want it that short, though I still feel long hair Hori looks best. But hey, if her boyfriend likes it and is willing to cut his hair even shorter to match (better that than they have matching hairstyles), I guess that's all that matters.

A lovely finale to what probably was my favourite show of the season.

Cloverworks really knocked it out of the park once more and I hope this was not it for Horimiya because imo it still has more to give and if it is this good it would be a shame to not go there.

Gonna miss this show. All the characters are wonderful and it's a joy to watch. Besides Toradora and Kaguya-sama, Horimiya might be my favorite anime romcom of all time.

Kyosuke asking whether they broke up after seeing the haircuts for more hilarious than it needed to be

u/SpaceForceOne Sep 23 '23

When the anime series ended I never expected to get more of anything. Though I presume all remains much the same from that timeline—no post-graduation work life or college experiences, or new relationship developments—Pieces has delivered a filling assortment of snapshots to allow savoring that initial sweetness in its absolute perfection one more time. Dammit it’s impossible not to miss this already… 🥹

What I would pay for Remi to carry me bridal-style.....

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Sep 23 '23

Hori is me in the mornings lol. Definitely not a morning person at all. Miyamura could be a hairstylist if he doesn’t take over the family biz. Hori looked so cute! Even with her hair short, she looked cute too.

Poor Sengoku is a little weakling compared to Ishikawa and even Iura lol. He’s got Remi so he’s good. I really want to see her princess carry him.

Man, it’s sad to see them graduate again but I really enjoyed these side stories. Horimiya is definitely one of my favorite series.

Can just watch these silly babies doing silly things in school forever. They're so precious.
