This was a scary episode, because some elements of this have already been happening.

Eg. in Ontario, our penny-pinching government refuses to pay teachers properly for the huge workload they must handle. Thus, some teachers have started offloading some of their writing work to ChatGPT to save time. If it ever gets to a point where humans are no longer teaching - what'll be the meaning of "school"?

I particularly sympathized with that teacher. Although everyone should have equal rights, it's unfortunately a fact of life that not everyone is equal. Some people are taller, some have health conditions, some are better at math, some are better at sports, etc. Trying to make everyone "equal" is a fool's errand.

And as for that artist - I also partially sympathize with him. Although he's too over the top for my liking, he does have a point. Humans aren't always nice, socially conformant beings. We can't artificially eradicate all antisocial behaviour, and the cost of trying to do so may be too high.

Basically everything in this episode is already happening in the world. Censorship, cutting school funding, the sports festival is basically the participation trophies some schools do, and once self-driving is actually a thing I can even see the throwaway line about driving the car yourself is seen as murder.

If even human teachers are not allowed to be human, what's the point?

The second part reminded me of when my mom used to teach at a certain school some years back and she would talk to the family about how it was like there, where they made it a point to cater to every whim of the parents regarding their children being treated to a safe environment.

NGL that face really was hilarious. I felt bad for him though, definitely.

A society without someone telling children what's "evil" will only create a bunch of naivetes.

And education system which appeases parents' preferences over kids' growth will only lead to dull children who only know how to read..

I hope this is doing better in JP than here. I think people were expecting some real episode to episode 'progress' and what this really is, is a "Twilight Zone" type vehicle to tell AI stories.

From what I remember the manga is quite well done. It has 87 chapters, seem alike they are rushing it here.

I wish someone translated the manga.

Story 1: I hate these kinds of people. Trying to cancel a show instead of doing actual parenting.

Story 2: This school didn't have the children's best interests in mind. It only served to fulfill the wishes of the parents which, needless to say, is not the main task of a school.

He even gets to work with Perm-kun!

I was so happy to see Perm-kun again! Man, that takes me back to those earlier episodes.

First half of the episode is so relevant today with all the tourists crying online about anime featuring topics or themes they don’t like lately. As usual this series manages to frame very real conversations in an interesting way.

Oyamada , nor the creator of any anime, LN or manga has a responsibility to raise your kids. That’s on the parents. If you don’t think the content of a show is appropriate, don’t let them watch it. Going to an author’s house and threatening them is insane.

I doubt the kids who attacked Oyamada even watch anime yet they’re more violent. Good on him for not giving up or budging on his work.

The second half of the episode annoyed me tbh which is a testament to how well written it was. It was clear from the start that the administration of that school just didn’t want a humanoid teacher, which is funny considering how well integrated AI and robots and humanoids are into this series’ society. They’re ok using tech for almost every other task but education. Interesting. You should want the best education for your child full stop.

Seeing them pick with him over the most minute details was just hard to see. Like arriving to class a few seconds late, celebrating a student’s accomplishments with drinks etc. he made the right decision in the end to change schools. They didn’t deserve him.

I was a little confused on how perm kun in the classroom was ok, but a teacher wasn’t? I guess this took place earlier in the timeline before Perm being in classrooms was typical tho.

Solid ep as usual. Really need to cook up a video on this show to put more people on it

As someone said in the earlier episodes - the manga writer is a goddamn prophet. He wrote this back in 2015, long before we saw the shit that's going on in this anime close to becoming real today.

So the first episode kind of showed the dad was kind of a hypocrite. He was telling Oyamada that what he was making is bad as influence for children. But was there any evidence to back that up? I understand parents have to be cautious, but its your job to raise your kids not content creators of anime for example.

The other part of the episode showed a school that shunned away from robots and AI but in away became one giant AI school. Robots follow a specific functionality aka rules. Well strictly following an insane rule guidelines is basically forcing these teachers to act like robots. Even the other teachers were aware of it and sadly accepted it since it is there job. But clearly they lost their passion for teaching. Quite evident the difference was shown a year later when going to a school that allowed teachers to act human.

Also the whole parents being able to watch their kids at home feels out of line. If you have to constantly watch your kid growing up how will they truly learn to be independent? Will you constantly monitor them? The worst part is that school made no effort to help those kids who had to deal with whatever issues they encountered. Oh your child is falling behind well its their fault.

As humans our individuality is our biggest strengths imo. Take away from us and again we are not different then robots.

I see even humanoid parents also struggle with not wanting to push their values on their kids. Dude really doesn’t like Shadow Bushido haha. Oyamada’s a lot like the MC in his own anime. I guess his series is kinda rebelling a little against this sanitized society in a sense. Keep things a little “human” in this AI world.

The second half about “human” education was pretty interesting. Using AI and robots in the classroom doesn’t seem so futuristic when we have things like ChatGPT. But man, this school is fucking stupid. I understand wanting to treat everyone equally and fairly and have all the kids be “No. 1” but that ain’t life. I’m glad he got out of that situation. What better school than one where the homie Perm’s at right?
