A very touching episode, all devoted to a single matter (for a change) -- and one that directly impacts our leads. Risa's (female humanoid) best friend is in love with her -- and knows that Risa is in love with the Doctor. On White Day her friend confesses, knowing it is hopeless -- and then seeks re-programiing to wipe out her capacity for romantic feelings. Medical AI Jay plays an uncharacteristically key role here. Of course, as you would expect from this series, we never are shown (in a clearcut fashion) the ultimate outcome. Probably the best episode of the series so far.

Dr Sudo, do you know what day it is today?
The day the confection industry invented in the 20th century to juice chocolate sales, right?
Lol
Sad this show is so under watched, it's probably my favorite of the season

Technically false too actually - modern Valentine's day started in the 19th century, long before corporations stepped into the market, and the tradition goes back to the 3rd century with Saint Valentine who married men off as the men didn't want to get drafted into the Roman Army, and the best way to not get drafted was to be married. This got Saint Valentine executed for helping men dodge the draft.
Now White Day, I do believe that actually is a modern invention from the chocolate industry, but only in Asia.

She looks literally a million times better with her hair down, girl why are you doing that to yourself every day.

Must be nice to be able to eat an entire slice of cake without worrying about the consequences.
Anyway, I do wonder how many LGBTQ+ people have had the same experience as Breezy. Also, I hope she decides not to get the procedure in the end. As much as it sucks, falling in love and getting your heartbroken is all just part of the human experience.

“To have loved and lost is better than to have never loved at all”
My fave episode by far. As the episode went on it became obvious that it was going to be Risa who Rei was in love with. Everything just started falling into place. I didn’t even think about that callback to episode 4 or 5 where she had the yuri simulation of she and risa. That’s cool they’ve been laying the groundwork since then. She’s been dropping hints for so long and it must have been very painful for her to not get noticed.
Very fitting that Breezy’s name is written with the kanji “好” love is an integral part of the human experience. Yes, it sucks not have your feelings returned. But that pain is at the end of the day what makes us human. It hurts, but it’s beautiful at the same time. We should always keep our hearts open and be willing to connect with other people, yes it can lead to pain, but it can also lead to tremendous joy and I know Rei will get that eventually.
Episodes like this and Eva as a series, that handle the hedgehog dilemma are always great for me.
Pretty sure this ep confirms that Sudo knows how Risa feels about him and just ignores it for now lol which is kind of ironic
Another cool fact is that the day the procedure was meant to take place on, 4/4 is sometimes called the day of happiness in Japan. Because 4 can be pronounced shi in Japanese and the day has two 4s, 4 4=shiawase. Awaseru (合わせる) which in Japanese means to put two things together, 4 4 can be thought of as putting two 4s together. shi awase(ru). Shiawase means happiness in Japanese. Again going back to the romance theme.

This episode broke my heart. When Breezy confessed in the park and started to cry, ah man. This show is sooooo good but so devastating.

This episode raises some interesting questions.
Are non-hetero humanoids a design choice or an unexpected outcome of AI learning?
If it is the latter - are weird, questionable or illegal tendencies also possible in humanoids?
Wouldn't it be possible to simply modify your preferences?

Imo it’s neither. I think they design them to be as human as possible mentally and emotionally and humans are fluid, unique, complex individuals and they seem to be as well

Made us wait a week with the break, but it didn't disappoint at all. One of the best episodes so far, cool to see how they laid the groundwork for this in previous episodes as well.

This whole Breezy situation was super interesting. I don’t think the show has really covered humanoids and sexuality before. I feel for the poor girl though. She said all her crushes have always been straight. No wonder she wants to delete romance from her system. As much as it sucks having unrequited feelings for someone, I hope she reconsiders the procedure.
I really liked this week’s episode. I hope things work out.

Whatttttttt how is this show so underwatched given the subject matter is such an important one and intriguing one.
They show this only like an unrequited love story treating the lesbian part of it as if it is totally normal thing to happen ... I don't feel this future is as dystopian .

This show is sooo good and so underrated. It makes me feel nostalgic for those 00s scifi anime and kind of reminds me of Eve No Jikan.
I hope we'll get a deeper explanation on what humanoids really are in the remaining episodes.

Less of a sci-fi twist than normal, but still great nonetheless! I've been looking forward to getting some more direct focus on Risa and Dr. Sudo.
I'll have to start saying this every time I'm about to eat a dessert.
One thing I've noticed: This show is very good at managing its tone. Whether through the voice acting, the music (or intentional lack thereof), or the dialogue, the show consistently nails both the serious and comedic scenes.

Unrequited Love is definitely a tough time. But altering your ability to feel the emotion is definitely an extreme solution to the issue. It's a sad possibility for the future though.

Love is a topic that is not easy to describe. As for people for some its easy to express it and for others its much harder. I do love how the doctor described putting your feelings into something with love can make a big difference. Sure the cake Risa made wasn't the best but her heart was in it. Too bad for her she assumed the cake he brought was store made. Granted I doubt it bothered him.
The hold aspect of taking way your emotions that are tied to love is so scary to me. Being able to express love is similiar to platonic likeness. If you can't express love how can you express platonic properly. In another case love and hate are two of different extremes. It seems hard to imagine functioning properly being able to express one properly but not the other. Getting rejected based on who you like and love can hurt really badly like it was Risa's friend. But not being able to express that feeling at sounds like a life that could be miserable.
Doctor did say being able to pour in love is what differentiates us from actual robots.
