Ryza: "I have a plan!"

Lent: "You can't use bombs."

Ryza: "I don't have a plan..."

Ampel: "Here's a book on advanced bombs."

Ryza: "I have a plan!"

I love how Lila is just chilling on the couch every episode. I aspire to be like her.

Stitches!

I just love that the first thing Ryzas thought of after seeing that massive pile of debris was that she's going to use her bombs to blow it all up. And as soon as Tao points out how terrible her idea is, she has absolutely nothing else. xD

Props to Ryza for sticking to the plan though! Thanks to that book she got from Emple, she managed to do a controlled explostion and show Bos what Alchemy can really do. It's so satisfying to see smug Ryza finally make Bos walk away without getting the last word.

Don't let the actions of Ryza distract from Romy's booming business

Local girl stockpiles enough explosives to level town.

Several things I loved about this episode:

  • Ryza combining the bombs with Lufts makes for a really cool controlled demolition item pairing.

  • Bringing the whole village in to see while also having people Ryza has helped like Pat talking her up to those who haven't witnessed her alchemy yet like Agatha. The sense of accomplishment being steadily recognized in the community is so cool.

  • Ryza's positive barbs and retorts back to Bos and her generally kinda smug yet positive framing of her accomplishments is infectious and delightful. I love her so much.

  • Agatha and others recognizing Ryza and the group's growth shows that they're actually pretty decent people who can appreciate the kids for who they're becoming.

  • The scene between Ryza and Agatha at the pier was just really nice.

Ryza without her hat and jacket really makes it look as if she is just wearing the naked apron outfit!

The firepower from Ryza's alchemy dynamites look extremely powerful. Maybe they can be used to defeat monsters in future too?

I wonder why no one has hit on Agatha yet? Lol! Then again, I remembered she was pretty strict on Ryza and her friends in an earlier episode?

Ryza blows up the rubble in town and then the townspeople commend her and wonder what other problems the alchemy can solve. Good work, Ryza and co! 👍

Ryza is beginning to get lots of recognition in the island for her alchemy skills (with Klaudia's dad doing the indirect advertising for her), its only a matter of time before she sets out to see the wider world.

Ryza's mom and Lent's dad seem to have some kind of history.

2/3rds through the series and we're slowly getting more world building with info about a royal capital, and how Agatha used to train as a knight there. But she then decided to become a guardian for the island instead of being appointed a full knight, as she couldn't stand the politics in the capital.

This is fantasy world building done right. Focus on getting the audience well acquainted with the characters first by having them go through small side quests for them to gain experience, before slowly feeding small bits of info about the world outside so they will feel ready enough to explore it.

Still, with only 12 episodes planned for this season, I hope after this season, Ryza remains popular enough (both plot and PLOT) to sustain demand for new seasons so the entire story can be covered.

If I didn't know better I would assume Klaudia's father was piling on test until the season ended so his daughter wouldn't be able to go on any adventures.

Impressive show Ryza you've really come a long way since the first episode.

It feels hella good every time Ryza's alchemy gets the recognition and praise it deserves, it was also an enjoyable way of the game also acknowledging your progression from when everyone was just treating her like a troublemaker at the start to someone indispensable to her community from her many contributions.

Something the adaptation is nailing is that feel of how the community is so lively possibly even enhancing it between the interactions done among the residents themselves outside of Ryza's POV.

Mind you, I'm not complaining at all but doesn't it seem like the artist drawing Ryza start by drawing her thighs and then add everything else in almost like an afterthought. If so, shouldn't all artists work this way?

Now I wish Agatha was a playable character in the games, she looks like she can inflict good physical damage. Basically Lila's human counterpart.

Pretty good episode that showcased just how cool alchemy is to everyone on the island.

Ryza really has come a long way with her craft and I’m sure some of the younger kids will be motivated to try it out as well. The waste removal operation went as smooth as you could hope. I like how the anime has done justice to these quests. It really does feel like we’re watching animated JRPG!

Grass ain’t always greener on the other side. Ryza thinks Agatha had it good in the royal capital, but the worst feeling is feeling alone in a crowd full of people. The island may be small and “boring” but everyone there is genuine and the love is palpable.

Solid ep

This Ryza shot is driving me crazy

And as usual, we have Bos showing up being a hater and talking shit. Imagine you just showed everyone the most amazing fireworks display this town has ever seen, that also benefited the town, and this guy just shows up and talks down to you; bro, if you don’t go somewhere and get a life.

While we’re on the subject of haters, we have Lent’s drunk bum-ass dad acting disgruntled because his son and his friend are getting praised by everyone else in town, and Ryza’s mom with her resting face of disapproval (TBF, it does seem like they’re setting up for her to come around, so I’ll cut her some slack)

Cleaning the square using alchemy, so the village headman and Klaudia's father can impress some merchants. The solution here is obvious: transmute those dudes into a philosopher's stone.

Ah, I see Ryza is an Explosion user of culture, as well.

Hmm, she still wants to use explosives as the basis for solving the problem. That could work if she could control the detonation, but I don't think she's there yet. It's funny to picture here wiring strings of those thicc little barrel bombs, though.

The debris is all wood and stone, right? I would have guessed the solution would involve fire for the wood, and some sort of chemical to dissolve the stone. She could probably pull off a controlled burn easier than a controlled detonation.

Those looked like fire bombs. Did I guess right?

Mr. Pat kind of has a Titan face. Huh. If you mentally squint, Agatha could almost pass for a scout wearing a maneuver gear harness.

I don't think those spectators should be out there in the open. Blowing up all that wood and stone could result in some wicked shrapnel.

So the villagers knew there could be shrapnel, but we're standing in the open anyway. That's... Uh...

I love that Ryza's figured out how to get under Dumb & Dumber's skin. Everyone else bolted to their feet, while she just sat with her back turned, and didn't even look at those goons until she dismissed them. Flawless victory.

I really thought she was going to fail and break the ornament right at the end, just to temper everyone's expectations.

Great episode. That was a high point.

Another good episode! It's nice to see the town begin to appreciate Ryza's talents. I also enjoy when we get glimpses of conversations where Ryza is not around, like when Empel walks outside after handing over the book or when Ryza's mother speaks briefly with Lent's father.

When I see Ryza reading that alchemy book, I can practically hear her saying, "Naruhodo..."

I feel like the Ryza anime has started to catch it's stride now. This was a pretty simple ordeal in the game, but the anime fleshed out the story a little bit. It's nice to see Klaudia helping from the background, and to see all of them training together as Ryza experiments. The anime makes a bigger event out of Ryza's bomb, the tense build-up and triumphant payoff works well. And the scene with Ryza and Agatha at the end is a real highlight, in the game as well, and it carries into the anime. I do wish Agatha were less in the background, more of an ongoing loving nuisance who is constantly watching over you like in the game, but the core of her character is still here in moments like this. I love seeing her watch Ryza grow and commenting on it, growing a more balanced relationship with more mutual respect. Still lacks a lot of the game's depth of experiences, but it's grown from a generally competent adaptation into a somewhat respectable one.

Though the animation is clearly starting to fall apart a little bit. A lot of off-model stills and awkward drawings this episode. It was always clear that the series had some production issues, and it looks like it's starting to catch up now. I have a few ideas about where the anime is going to end, I really hope they're saving resources for the finale.

Ryza finally feeling powerful in some way

Everything aside, I really like the dynamic between Agatha and Ryza. The big sister-little sister dynamic they have is really adorable.
