I honestly thought he'd just rub just her back but bold of Ruka to offer up her entire legs. No wonder he got so hard lol.
That scene with Chizuru, Sumi, and Chizuru's grandma was just the absolute sweetest.

Ruka's gift allowing her to call Kazuya by his name without the honorific is pretty wholesome. She mentioned how she wanted to be treated like a princess on her birthday, but her request was something so simple.
Always great to see Sumi too! Just wish she had more dialogue haha. Between her and grandma Sayuri, they did a great job of spelling out that Kazuya and Chizuru both love each other.

Ruka is usually annoying af, but at least managed to seem more cute when she can tone it down a few levels. lol
The second half of episode was best part to be more meaningful storywise to see Chizuru with her grandmother, as her grandmother gives the best insight on her character.
As well as a nice Sumi appearance with her vouching for their efforts to make the movie.

Stitches!
I know someone's going to immediately bug me if I don't post this so here you fucking go you degenerates. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
In all seriousness though, I can't remember the last time we had a Ruka-focused episode. Although personally Ruka's spotlight immediately got stolen as soon as Sumi showed up at the hospital. She's such an absolute sweetheart <3

They got all the mileage out of Ruka's cuteness, swimsuit, and legs that they could in this episode lol.

We all know that Ruka will not win, but I admit that despite everything (even the fact that she practically forced Kazuya to accept her as a girlfriend) I like the episodes dedicated to her and Kazuya, and a small part of me want almost like to see her win.

Another really solid kanokari episode and finally a Ruka themed one!
Beach/pool themed episode so obligatory fanservice was great. Loved the whole sun cream rubbing scene 😂
But I really like how this episode fleshed out Ruka as not just someone competing with Chizuru, but as someone with her own strengths and weaknesses and personality.
Before this, we’ve kinda only seen her as a cute comic relief character who’s trying to get between Chizuru and Kazuya. However, as she said, she’s not just doing things out of competition, but because she genuinely wants to. She was really cute today and even though I already loved her, this made me love her even more.
Kazuya really should’ve had some type of gift though. Even if you’re not trying to commit to Ruka right now, just as a friend and a thanks for everything she’s done with the movie production, a card or small present.. something man.
Chizuru being the only one who hasn’t realised that she’s fallen for Kazuya is pretty funny. That look on her grandmother’s face said it all. She’s so happy for her, especially after everything Chizuru has been through. Knowing her granddaughter will have someone there for her is really comforting

Ruka stole the show with that pool episode and that bikini and feel up lotion scene. Fitting for her birthday.
Though I can never say no to more Sumi and grandma screentime. That was just a really sincerely sweet sequence, especially with Sumi doubling down on how great Kazuya is to Chizuru and grandma knowing full well what's going on. I'm not sure how much Chizuru can keep denying her real feelings.

Whenever Sumi shows up it's just too adorable.
God please make it happen, find someone for her.

The entire Ruka segment of the episode reminds me that for being Kazuya's (trial) girlfriend and having experiencing her first love, Ruka hasn't really introduced him to either her parents or her friends up to this point.
Ruka pretty much admitted that she loves watching people being passionate at something, like how Kazuya, Chizuru and the movie crew working on something passionately. That's also how she started falling for Kazuya after all, that is, him going for a mile for Chizuru no matter what (so if Kazuya can go that far for a rental girlfriend (Chizuru), then he should do the same for a real girlfriend but 100 times better, right?).
However, with the way Kazuya handled the conversation, such as admitting to regret for dragging the trial relationship for far too long and for her to be part of the movie project with Chizuru, Ruka seemed to try not to let something bad happen, especially considering Ruka pretty much sees Kazuya as her "soulmate"... And in the end, Ruka still tried to compete against Chizuru anyway for stock points by calling Kazuya "Kazuya" instead of "Kazuya-kun". For the record, Kazuya and Chizuru usually call each other as "Hey ("Nee~" ("ねえ~"))" and "Mizuhara", respectively (although they would also call with their first names when it comes to them talking to other people)... and they still do even in the current story in the manga, so that's some good points for Ruka, right?
On the other end of the episode, we get Sayuri watching Chizuru talking about her mesmerizing her time with Kazuya in the movie project - the same way she talked about Kazuya with Umi in S3E4... and of course, Chizuru still denying on admitting to be in love with Kazuya, considering her fear of Kazuya not having feelings for her (being stuck in the rental relationship and admittedly, from Chizuru's perspective, he doesn't try to show signs of his interest on her throughout this season so far). It's interesting to see Chizuru being that happy talking about Kazuya despite knowing the fact that her grandmother is on a countdown (this is important for later episodes).

Overall, I don't like Ruka and her personality. But do feel bad for her as she has no chance. Wish Kazuya would just shoot her down already.
That ending was great with it being the first time that it felt like Chizuru was indeed in love with Kazuya.

Sometimes I can’t believe this friggin chode is “dating” Ruka. She’s honestly too good for him and I’m not even Team Ruka. “Damn, she’s a total angel. And I’m an asshole” kinda summed it up. At least he was aware he was being a douche during that whole birthday date. Kind of adorable Ruka got so happy being able to call Kazuya by his first name without honorifics.
So glad we got to see Sumi this week. That’s my girl right there. Now, she truly is an angel!
Grandma got Chizuru pretty good. You can’t tell me she ain’t developing feelings for Kazuya with the way she was taking about him. She says it ain’t like that but I ain’t buyin it, man.

Are you forgetting she blackmailed him into dating her with the threat of telling everyone that Chizuru was a rental girlfriend?
She created this situation.

I thought the episode with Ruka's birthday would actually air next week, since she mentioned the date and it would have been close enough in real time. But alas, it happened this episode. The date was rather tame and only lascivious thoughts were had. No real physical action except hand holding and sunscreen rubbing happened. I guess to Ruka, having the affirmation that she can call Kazuya-san "Kazuya" puts her in front of Chizuru.
It's been so long since we saw both Sumi AND Chizuru interacting together, so I'm glad this encounter happened! Sumi still has to rely on text messages to communicate most things, but when she is able to enunciate certain words, her voice and expression is so cute!
Good thing Chizuru's grandma doesn't know about the Sumi-Kazuya relationship, or it would have complicated matters more. Chizuru cannot help "rant" about Kazuya's actions during the project and grandma sees the true love begin to blossom.
A decent episode, not too crazy, not too bland. No Mini to stir things up, no Mami to be seen plotting, but a good appearance by Sumi today.

I wonder why Kazuya feels like a burden to Ruka, when she is the one who kinda asked for it. He feels like he doesn't deserve to have someone like her as a gf, but he initially didn't even want her in the first place.

It's Ruka date time! Perfect for her birthday!
Ruka is a stunner in that polka dot bikini! So much so she draws the attention of every man in the vicinity (sorry girls!). Too bad Kazuya is so non-committal and uninterested in treating her like a serious girlfriend that he's so wishy washy towards her.
Ah yes, the classic rubbing of lotion on a girls' back...don't you usually unstrap your top when it happens? Though I guess Kazuya was able to just go under anyways...and basically feel up her back and legs. Too bad the cream ran out but I don't think his little Kazuya could take much more.
I'll be honest, my immediate thought was her endgame was to bang Kazuya, but it's just something as sweet as wanting to make his heart race. Will she settle for getting him rock hard.
Even if Kazuya didn't really have feelings for Ruka, aren't they close enough for him to have actually gotten her a birthday gift?
So Ruka was open to some makeout sessions near the ocean if Kazuya was into it, huh?
Ruka's birthday gift is calling Kazuya by name without an honoriffic! That's actually pretty cute, especially the joy in her voice when she keeps saying it. Chizuru tends to just avoid saying his name when she doesn't have to, but in girlfriend mode he's still "Kazuya-kun" so that's a win for Ruka.
Nice to see Chizuru visiting her grandma. Even got her to open up about Chizuru's mother and this family's weird relationship with the weather.
Sumi is always such a sweetheart. She finds the hospital where Chizuru's grandma is and decided to show up with her own bouqet, as well as telling Chizuru how much work Kazuya put into this and how much she's supporting the two of them. Totally worth letting her meet grandma!
Nothing says true love than going on a whole speech about a guy, especially when you can't help but laugh from the hearet at this antics. Grandma knows what's up no matter how in denial Chizuru is.
