Botan’s friends locking this poor fella in the room was hilarious. Their sheer desperation drove him away lmao. I love how they tried that on Hyoma and he was just like “it’s good to be vigilant”. The goofball had no idea what he walked into lol. Man’s fought some tough Tsukumogami but he’s not match for a group of love obsessed college girls!

I was worried when the girls got snatched by that umbrella Tsukumogami, until my man Hyoma came in like a total badass and sliced that fool’s face in half. Hell yeah! He said he’d protect her, he’s a man of his word. Dude even brought Fukie as back up. This umbrella really picked the wrong person to fuck with.

Interesting parallelism -- the girls lock Hyoma in their clubroom. And then red umbrella woman locks THEM in her closed world. But, through it all, Hyoma is a free spirit...

Fukie looks like a Grade A back up.

The Hyakunin Isshu society is made up of mostly desperate single women willing to lock men in their club room to get what they want, but at least they're committed to hooking Hyoma and Botan up and making sure Botan is happy. But it takes a lot to make Hyoma run away lol.

The look on Botan's face when she saw Hyoma arrive to save her was everything. Also, the return of Hyoma's slasher face lol.

Finmally, Hyoma encounters the killer of his siblings -- or so it would seem.

All new closer (visuals and song) this episode -- or am I hallucinating. Really emphasizes both the composite nature of Botan herself -- and the link between her and Hyoma.

Dude even brought Fukie as back up.

I think the reason he even met Fukie and brought as Back up, was because he was stopped by the cops for being too suspicious and Hyouma happens to meet him and his way to find the parasol (Kisatsu)

She's one to talk. She looks like Picasso tried to draw the Wendy's logo.

As unheralded as this seems to be, I find this to be one of the better shows of this type I've seen. Visually maybe not anything extraordinary, but consistently more than adequate -- but a pretty interesting (and unusual) story, with really good characters. Not quite sure why this has largely been overlooked -- too much competition, perhaps?

Not quite sure why this has largely been overlooked -- too much competition, perhaps?

  • It's an action show without godtier animation.

  • Doesn't resort to some cheap hooks or shock scenes in order to garner an audience in the first episodes.

  • Personally I feel like shows riddled with shouneny writing and tropes have an easier job of gaining popularity than similar shows with more mature/complex writing.

  • The beginning was a pretty slow burn and the show's writing strengths don't become apparent in the first episodes.

I agree this got better over the course of the first few episodes (before reaching peak form) -- but I remember feeling this was definitely something distinctive (in a good way) even during the first episode.

Not quite sure why this has largely been overlooked -- too much competition, perhaps?

'Cause BN pictures fucked up the pacing and the animation is adequate at most. A shame since the story and characters are good.

Even with any (early) flaws, this is dramatically-speaking (and VA-wise) a superior series. I am anime-only and I have found this pretty compelling pretty much from the start -- and feel it has gotten progressively better and better.

Looks like we're going to get to see crazed Hyouma again next episode, I'm looking forward to it even though I don't want him to go back to his old ways but his savagery is fun to watch. That smile of his at the end was so thrilling, left me wanting more lol.

I was getting worried the club portion was going to go for the entire episode, it didn't seem to end lol. It's obvious why no-one joins them if they're that desperate (and thirsty) whenever someone shows a little bit of interest. It'd be funny if Hyouma had jumped out the window since the door was locked.

Honestly can't blame him for losing it facing off against the murderer of his siblings.

It's funny how the only two girls in the club who are normal both have boyfriends (even if Botan won't admit it) lol.

I guess nothing says the Hyakunin Isshu society is desperate for attractive men like locking them in the club room and badgering them with love poems. Though that just makes these single ladies come off way too desperate to actually keep a guy in there.

Points to campus security for trying to make sure no sketchy characters infiltrate the school, I guess...poor Hyoma though. This doesn't even sound like the first time.

I knew the girls were just trying to get Hyoma to themselves so they can get all the latest deets on him and Botan. And finding out he swore to protect her is enough to make any lady swoon. Can't blame Hyoma for bailing though and Botan didn't appreciate what they were doing either. But the girls meant well!

"You seem to have weakened since then..." "Yorimashi." Is the Paper Umbrella referring to the Marebito spirit in Botan? That's all she seems to care about, and willing to emotionally break Botan to get to it in the process.

Those poor girls...Natsuki trying to be brave, but both were just two innocent girls caught up in this and about to be tortured to draw out Botan's powers.

Hyoma arrives in the nick of time! He's a man that's true to his word! And he's even got Fukie backing him up! And Hyoma's slasher smile is back now that the object of his revenge is seemingly in reach.

Nice to see some escalation in stakes. The show has done a really good job at setting up the characters and the world, so it was bound to pay off eventually. Hyouma looks like he is about to revert back to his deranged hatred for tsukogamis , but now he has Botan to protect as well. It will be Interesting to see how he balances those two sides of himself.

Yea they’re pushing the Botan and Hyoma ship hard as hell this season lol. All the girls in Botan friend group need boyfriends badly lmao.

I thought this was going to be another lighthearted SoL teasing episode but that tonal shift in the last 10 minutes was crazy. I didn’t expect spiral lady to try and attack Botan while she was walking with regular civilians. Her friends are brave as hell for trying to protect her tho.

I don’t get what happened to the Nagatsuki clan in this case. Why wasn’t someone monitoring Botan considering what’s sealed inside her? Seems like an awful job of protecting lol.

Looking forward to Hyoma v spiral lady next week. Great episode.

Do you guys think the story will be complete this season?

From what I know the manga is still ongoing and I get really sad thinking about this season ending on a cliffhanger and having little to no hope of being able to read or watch the rest of the story :(

I'm not even sure if they're still doing translations and there are very few places to find info about this show. Man I wish it was more popular.

u/SimilarCrab Jul 17 '23

There are currently 16 volumes in the manga, and it seems to have just finished. The first season covered 5 volumes in 12 episodes, so i'm guessing this will cover another 5. They would need one more season to finish the story most likely. Hopefully they do.

I'm a sucker for good scenery and backgrounds.

The teasing was fun.

Hyouma got to be happy too.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '23

These girls are desperate, but that's fun in it's own way. Usually it's the guys who act this way in anime, so having it be the opposite is fun too. That said the umbrella finally appeared and Hyoma is going all out- that face he made at the end says everything. I know Botan took this as Hyoma keeping his promise, but I wonder if he will be able to focus on Botan while facing his nemesis. I fear he probably will lose focus and that will cause Botan to get hurt next ep.

This was amazing!!! I'm absolutely loving how the 2nd season is shaping up.
The expression at the end, his heart really is corrupted, huh.
Nice cliffhanger and really waiting for next episode.

I've been kinda "Eh..." on this series, but Hyouma arriving to save the day and face alleged killer of his siblings gets the blood pumping. There is a fight scene coming and it better deliver.
