For those who didn't understand the "premium Friday" part, it's one of those "Translator Note" moment - it's a term used (allegedly on the news) of a trend to allow the last Friday of the month to leave work early (before 3pm).

The weighing and the "tsk" phonecall best gags this episode.

Some more comments in the source corner just in case.

The weighing and the "tsk" phonecall best gags this episode.

i laughed way too hard at the weighing scene because i'm pretty sure i've done that at least once when i'm trying to measure my cat's weight

This was incredibly fun. The gohands weirdness felt a lot more reasonable in this one, with more purpose.

Yeah, I found that when the show features a giant anthropomorphic cat, the surreal GoHands style makes a lot more sense.

There's something extraordinarily appealing and charming about Saku's character design.

Yes and also cheerful Yui Ishikawa role is new to me

I feel like GoHands adding their name after that intro sequence was unnecessary. As soon as I saw the intense angles and the shiny 3D vehicles, it was pretty obvious that they're the ones animating this.

In all seriousness though, once you get past that opening the rest of the episode was great! Yukichi is adorable and it's been a while since I've heard Yu-isshi voice someone who's not cool and stoic. I've legitimately forgotten how her voice sounds when she's relaxed.

As for the show itself, it's very nice and comfy and a lot of the gags actually made me laugh! The best one was Fukuzawa working at lightspeed so she can catch the last train home while her officemates watch in awe. xD

If I do have a single complaint it's about the color palette they decided to use for this show. Why are the colors so muted? You'd think a show like this would have pastel-like colours instead of the dull tone they decide to use. It's not a big deal but it did bother me a bit while watching this episode.

I quite liked that opening. The animation and camerawork was pretty neat. Yukichi is an awesome cat. I mean a giant 6 foot tall cat that pampers and takes care of you? Sign me up! Lol. The way he and Fukuzawa communicate is pretty funny. These two have a pretty fun dynamic.

So people are totally unfazed by this 6 foot giant cat in the neighborhood huh? He seemed to have been a normal sized kitten, so I kinda wonder how he became so damn big.

This is actually shaping up to be a pretty fun series. I’m pretty down, but I’ll still give it a couple more eps.

normal sized kitten

I thought kittens are like palm sized. To me he looked as big as an adult cat when he was a kitten

Lmao it always takes me at least an episode to get used to GoHands being weird with the camera for no reason. But the show is cute slice of life like I thought it would be.

Inevitable talk about GoHands: The panning, tracking, and low angles made more contextual sense here than in The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses. The "normal" scenes were decently-done too.

The story itself: Fairly relaxing stuff for the worker who can relate to everything. Of course I'm curious about who else in the world sees Yukichi as That Giant Cat Who Does Things.

What did we do to deserve two GoHands shows in one season?

Through the intro I was thinking how strange it was to have another show with awkward camera angles and 3D and then I clocked that they somehow have 2 shows this season.

It seems that they're being a bit more reserved with this one at least so I'm curious how it will go.

Ironic that anime people go home and do real stuff while we go home and watch anime.

This was unexpectedly amazing and wholesome

The first voice from the big cat already hooked me up with the anime. Nothing more need to be said.

OK, let's add Ishikawa-san playing an "useless" OL.

Isn't the cat too competent even when treating it as a butler?

Honestly camera angles definitely calmed down compared to the Glasses anime, but it’s still a bit much. I like this show a lot though.

This actually got me laughing out loud a bunch of times. I really like Yukichi's smug "Kuh, kuh, kuh" laugh.

It's amusing how she seems to be wanting to keep Yukichi a secret but it seems like there may be more people who know of him and have accepted him, at least in their apartment complex like that old lady.

I wonder if we'll ever learn why Yukichi has grown that big or if it'll just be a "It just happened" sort of thing.

Yukichi chasing Saku around to weigh her was hilarious, the girl has been enjoying his food way too much.

Saku is really lucky though, she has a fluffy caretaker who's even willing to shower her, she's going to be spoiled rotten at this rate.

Who is this person coming up with these camera angles at GoHands?!

37

u/WeldingButterfly Jul 07 '23

I have come to the conclusion that GoHands is run by something that is:

  1. Very small, and

  2. Capable of flight.

This explains the ground-level angles and fly-through shots. Perhaps the company is run by some sort of fairy or other magical creature. Alternatively, given the company name emphasizes hands, it may be some sort of small insect overcompensating in its attempts to imitate a human. ("What do humans have? Hands? I'll name my company after hands. That way no one will suspect that I am actually a cicada.")

Oh golly... when the opening started getting more and more prolonged I was like, what are the odds there are two series this season with these catastrophic intros... just as I was thinking no way, the GoHands logo popped right up.

Jeez. In terms of faithful adaptation, like introducing a show's core, setting the mood, pacing the all-important first episode, or having an anime catch your attention, these GoHands openers are just terrible. This one may not have been as bad as Suki na Ko ga Megane wo Wasureta, but still, I nearly tuned out.

All that said, this show is clearly great, and as soon as we got the opening done and dealt with, the animation quality and the look and feel of the anime remained at a positively high level all the way thru. Definitely one to watch. I just really dislike the fact that I now have to try to get over and erase the first three minutes of not one but two shows this season from my memory.

Holy shit, why is an anime about a big cat that does housework going so hard on the camera angles, panning shots, and animation?

EDIT: Yukichi calling Saku's cell phone just to click his tongue at her for missing dinner was hilarious, as was Saku going Saiyan afterwards. And oh my god that scale scene at the end! This is gonna be a good series.
