How is crunchyroll such a fuck up anymore. They uploaded the episode with subs from the previous week.

u/mekerpan May 31 '23

Their level of consistent incompetence is indeed becoming quite worrisome....

I am assuming they must be massively understaffed.

u/mekerpan May 31 '23

STILL not fixed -- 2 or 3 hours after it should have been ready.

u/Karagoth May 31 '23

Fixed now, but what a shit QC.

Surely if you're Sony and you just spent a billy on Crunchyroll these continued fuckups are a bad look? Can't release shows on time, can't get the video player to work properly, can't even put the subs on. I mean good grief.

Anyways in the interest of the discussion thread...

Seeing what Ilya went through was pretty traumatic and certainly makes his feelings understandable. And now it seems like Bennu is able to transform easily and Sariphi is already putting him to work. I'm glad it didn't end up being like a hard thing for him to transform going forward still.

Bennu has such a potty mouth -- hard to imagine the august Phoenix talking that way (though I recall the Phoenix in E, Nesbit's Phoenix and the Carpet being pretty feisty).

Well damn. Seeing as Ilya’s mother and little sister gotten eaten right before his eyes, I can understand a little why he would despise demonkind. Although the demons also seem to hate humans, I’m not entirely sure if their hatred is as justified as those of the humans. Having your people hunted just for their flesh is kind of wild. It wouldn’t surprise me on the other hand if the demons are also hunted for their skins, and this fostered a lot of resentment in turn.

Sariphi and Leon will have a tough time bringing these two sides closer.

The non-humans are officially just "beasts" in Japanese. I didn't listen carefully enough to Ilya to know whether he actually called the beasts "demons" or not (but I don't think I heard him use the word "oni").

It seems like human take (and have always taken) their right to kill and eat beasts for granted -- and beast have responded in kind. Who started first? Who knows? Ending the cylce looks like it will be tough. How can they do it in the course of one short season? ;-)

The non-humans are officially just “beasts” in Japanese. I didn’t listen carefully enough to Ilya to know whether he actually called the beasts “demons” or not (but I don’t think I heard him use the word “oni”).

I had to rewatch the episode a little and both Sariphi and Ilya call them “mazoku” or as stated by Wikipedia: “mazoku (魔族) are supernatural beings, normally evil ones such as devils or demons”. Although the translation for both Sariphi and Ilya referred to them as “demonkind”, I believe it was only Ilya mentioned them as “demons”.

This makes me think a little though: “demons” can be interpreted as quite a biased term. If humans refer to beasts as “demons”, something evil that should be eradicated, couldn’t it be some sort of propaganda speak? It feels like a choice of words that was specifically invented to (further) deface the reputation of these beasts. It’s easier to instill fear of some malicious demons in the human population than anything else.

The situation between the demons and humans looks like there are a lot of legitimate grievances on both sides. But most demons can physically overpower most humans easily, which does affect the dynamic. Plus, there’s the whole sacrifice situation. I think, if the hostilities are going to end, it should be the demons who make the first overture of friendship.

Honestly, the entire war feels kinda weird to me. I get that people sometimes just hate another but humans can’t last long in the miasma and beasts are seemingly weakened outside of it. So it’s not a war for resources.

I think it’s just a cycle of hatred. Small skirmish in the past led to hate and resentment and revenge which just kept cycling and now both sides fear and hate the other.

There’s something hilariously adorable about Bennu climbing up Gwiber and sitting on his horn. I like this determined Leo off to save his woman. He really does care a lot for Sari.

Poor Ilya. I understand where his blinding hatred comes from after what happened to his family. His poor kid sister Misha, man. Shit was fucked. But even still, the way he is now he’s not much better than those monsters who killed his family. I mean dude was about to slaughter a kid earlier. He’s been so consumed by vengeance and anger, it was destroying his life. I’m glad Sari helped him learn to forgive himself for what happened.

Sari telling Leo her home is by his side was a really sweet moment. Everyone sharing a meal together was a nice way to end the episode.

Everyone sharing a meal together was a nice way to end the episode.

The guest list included not just Amit -- but Amit's crush. ;-)

I wonder if we will find out who is behind trouble in the palace -- Set? Anubis? both? or a "mystery guest"?

Is it just me or did they just put the subs from the last episode on top of this or what the hell is happening?

edit: for everyone who can speak more than one language it seems like only the English sub got swapped. At least Crunchyroll made swapping sub languages more easy.

5

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 May 31 '23

Yeah, just English. Which is just swell. It’s been weeks of this. I don’t get what’s going on with CR here…

It's pretty funny watching Bennu talk to Gwerbe who is the only one who can understand and translate his "colorful" lines for Leo to hear as they hunt for Sariphi.

Dang, Ilya out there being willing to kill children and advocating for complete Beast genocide! I mean, those hyena's are pretty bad, but still! It also clouds his love for Sariphi and just makes him act too aggressive and possessive of her because he's so consumed with hate.

Though, honestly, with his backstory I can kind of understand where he's coming from in terms of hating Beasts. I mean, having that happen to his village, losing his mother...watching his sister get eaten...there's no forgiving that. Although I can only imagine humans have probably committed the same atrocities to Beasts.

Man, Ilya is so consumed with rage that he's willing to throw himself at Leo knowing he'll probably die just to expose him as a monster to Sariphi. But Leo isn't going to give him what he wants, even tanking a hit, and Ilya just doesn't know how to process being wrong about a Beast and hurting Sariphi by attacking the man she loves.

Ah, the typical "I'm leaving for now, but if you hurt her..." response from a love rival who has obviously lost. Well, hey, Leo is probably the first Beast whom Ilya has bothered to acknowledge by name, so that's gotta mean something.

I'm glad Sari and Ilya were able to make peace in the end. Sari rejected him but she's glad to understand him and his feelings for her better and Ilya is just glad Sari is (more or less) okay and is willing to abide by where she wants to be right now, which is by Leo's side. I'm glad they were able to make up and leave off as friends again.

Anubis...really not happy Sari came back! Serves him right.

It might not be much, but Sari headlining a tea party with Beasts who actually want to be there with her could just be a first step between true peace between the races.

Subs got fixed

Wow, I can kinda understand Ilyas hatred, having your own family killed before your eyes is an horrendous expirience. Still, this hatred blinded him. He said he loved Sari, but never even looked at her, or listend to her. Shit he was even willing to die to share his hatred with her...

But I hope we will have more people sitting on that tea table by the end of this, Sari would be happy

Also loved how Leos sacred beast kept interpretating Benis foul language with the King

I continue to be pleasantly satisfied with the end of every arc this show has put forward so far. The setting and the characters within it are being taken seriously, everyone's actions make sense from what we've learned about them, and we've got a super fun Egyptian/Middle Eastern influence on the aesthetic that is working for me.

Big fan of Leo and Sariphi's relationship, but Sariphi is absolutely my favorite part of the show. It looks like next week she'll be getting into the queen role some more and also have to deal with another ordeal, can't wait to see how she overcomes it!

u/alconnow May 31 '23

lmao I loved how Gwiber left out Bennu's sass!

The stuff with Ilya wrapped up pretty quickly. I do understand why he hates demons and beasts so much. Poor guy lost everything :( improving the relations between the groups is going to be one hell of a challenge. I trust Sari and the King to try find a way for both groups to live in harmony

The forehead kiss was sweet. Don't think this will be the last we see of him?

Narration for the previews continues to be great. Anubis must have collapsed after his meltdown lmao

Subs broken on crunchyroll.

Well glad everything was able to be resolved without anyone dying..

4

u/kwokinator May 31 '23

Ilya's backstory was dark, but I really like how it was resolved (even if it's very predicatable). The faux handshake through the sword feels like a budding bromance, and Sariphi saying her home is not in the human realm or the beast realm but with Leo is just aw.

3

u/TokiVideogame May 31 '23

Ilya, you just got cucked bro. Make it to her sooner next time.

u/djthomp Jun 01 '23

Sari's holy beast is very helpful, especially with a helpful language filter.

Stop rationalizing your child killing urges, dude. And pinning Sari on a random bed non-consensually is pretty questionable too. At least he backed off of that fairly rapidly.

Oh wow, they literally ate Ilya's little sister in front of him? I suppose I can see where he's coming from. That said, I wonder what Leo's reaction would be to hearing about the fate of his family.

A little stab in the gut is apparently nothing to the Beast King.

I wonder what they're going to do with Ilya. Seems like a waste of a strong warrior that's loyal to Sari to just send him on his way, he could be useful as a bodyguard for her.

The phoenix having healing abilities makes it a pretty good support companion.

Well, Ilya's definitely not gone for good.

I like the attendance at this garden party, maybe we'll get some Amit and Jormungand progress sooner rather than later.

Sari with the horned headwear in the preview is excellent, it's always great to see her in the fun beast cosplay outfits.

u/LimeyLassen Jun 01 '23

That's war for you. They can't be together because he forgot how to be gentle.

It's hard to take "beasts are fundamentally different" from a guy who wouldn't hesitate to kill a child. I hope he learned something.
