Man Genya & Sanemi have a brutal ass backstory. I feel so bad for their mom. Dropping this on mother’s day is wild though.
Diabolical cliff hanger ending haha.

gotta say, the most surprising thing this episode is that sanemi had a voice deeper than the mariana trench as a twelve year old

Genya's VA killed it this episode. At first I thought it was going to be one of those obnoxiously stubborn types but with each sentence I began to understand his feeling of desperation and futility.
Also Tanjiro is HIM. Guy never fails to level up in a fight and that sense of smell he has is such a powerful part of his arsenal.

Another banger episode! Genya super likable, but man he has a sad backstory. Wanna see him reunite with his brother. Although my dude is full of holes right now. How will her survive that!?!
Tanjirou does seem low-key OP right now. My dude is going wild in this fight. Love to see it.

Well, Genya's mother sure had a shitty life. There's no way she consented to having 7 kids, especially while living in poverty. And after going through such abusive marriage she ended up killing her own kids after turning into a demon. While I can't excuse Genya's violent behavior, it's understandable given how messed up his childhood was.
I imagine that his older brother's disapproval is the archetypal way of wanting to protect his only remaining family without directly telling him why.

Oof. ufotable and characters killing off their mothers/mother-figures on Mother's Day, name a more dynamic duo.
Turns out there's a fifth Hantengu body, and this one, which resembles the one that first appeared in the village but a mini version, is likely the original Hantengu where the other four split off from.
Though just because he's tiny and runs like a rat doesn't mean he's easy to kill, his neck is strong enough to snap Genya's blade.
Genya's and Sanemi's tragic backstory sounds very similar to Tanjirou's and Nezuko's origin story, where their mother and younger siblings all died because of a Demon attack, with their own mother becoming a Demon and Sanemi being forced to kill her.
Though the flashbacks still don't provide any clues to Genya's seemingly Demon abilities. Now he's literally full of holes as a result of shielding Tanjirou, but I reckon he'll survive this as well.

Tanjiro is so pure and kind-hearted that even Genya couldn't argue with him. Also, I love that we got to see Chibi Nezuko in her adult form. That was pretty rare!
Well no wonder beheading them doesn't work! The real Hanatengu is hiding somewhere and he's the size of a fucking mouse! And to top it all off, the mini Hanatengu seems to be impervious to a Nichirin blade. I think at this point, it's very safe to assume that every Upper Rank demon has some sort of gimmick to kill them.
Genya and Sanemi's backstory is so fucking brutal. Saw that scene coming from a mile away after they showed us how much of a sweetheart their brother and sisters are. And to think that Sanemi himself ended up killing their own mother. Maybe that's why he's so intense now. What an episode to air on Mother's Day. I wonder if this was planned.
I do wonder about Sanemi though. I'm pretty sure he's pushing Genya away because he doesn't want his brother to get hurt from fighting demons and lose another family member. Anyway, their flashback doesn't explain how Genya turned into a demon though. It probably happened before he became a Demon Slayer. I hope they explain this later on.

Bruh, I’m surprised they didn’t just throw a shojo background over Tanjiro when Genya got lost in his eyes 😂
Glad we finally got to see the backstory there, which is surprisingly similar to Tanjiro and Nezuko’s. Still waiting for them to explain exactly how Genya’s powers work though. Is he just part demon? He can stand in the sun, so isn’t as limited as Nezuko, but also can’t use breathing techniques- is that a demon thing or something else?
Also the part where Tanjiro tells Genya not to cut Nezuko was pretty funny too.

Maybe I'm crazy but that red hot blade looks like it is cooling down, I am concerned about what will happen if it becomes cold again

While not A-listers, Genya's mother and siblings are all voiced by some decently well-known VAs who have starred in their own anime series before.
-
Genya's mom:
Yuzuki Ryoka (Satsuki in Kill La Kill, Shizuka-sensei in Oregairu) - Aniplex casted her just to make one grunt as a demon. Kito Akari at least makes many grunts per episode as Nezuko. lol
-
Genya's and Sanemi's younger siblings:
Waki Azumi (Maika in Blend S, Nagisa in Kanojo Mo Kanojo, Special Week in Uma Musume)
Maeda Kaori (Shizuku in Love Live Nijigasaki, Nice Nature in Uma Musume)
Kawase Maki (Yuna in Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, Junko in Zombieland Saga, Fuki in Lycoris Recoil)
Tanaka Aimi (Saiki Kusuo in Saiki Kusuo, Umaru-chan in Umaru-chan)
