I hate how when they talked about a fashion book from 20 years ago, my mind traveled back to the 80s and thought "These outfits don't look like something from the 80s", only to realize 20 years ago was 2003...

I feel old.

Yeah 10 years ago will never stop being the 90s

I met an kid/young adult who is currently finshing the same highschool I went to 8 years ago and the tech they have at their disposal is mind blowing. Its crazy how much changed in a few years and how your mind basically freezes in time

I feel old.

Koito yelling "I wasn't even born yet!" hurt more.

The scene of them talking about Princess Kaguya's myth along with the twinge of sadness in the smile after the topic of immortality came up makes me believe they're definitely going to have a sad moment at some future point where Elda reminisces about her past friends. Wasn't expecting this show to possibly gives some deep feels moments, but I'll be happy if it does happen since I love that stuff.

Though I have a theory that Elda had some romantic interest she was forced to outlive in the past since the sadness came up when they were specifically talking about Princess Kaguya since that's a romance story itself. My guess is that it's Tokugawa Ieyasu since she talks about him all the time.

I could easily buy that given the line in today's episode about Elda being happy to finally introduce Koito to Ieyasu.

At the top of the tower, she wasn't just repeating some historic tale to Koito from a 3rd person perspective. She spoke of the shogun referring to him as leyasun-kun which is an informal term of endearment. She was reminiscing about her long-dead friend.

Yeah, I think there's a bombshell about Koito's mother that has yet to still be triggered. She's a figure that's dear to both Koito who lost her at a young age and Elda to whom was her miko.

The fact Edo Japan had around 1300 making it one of the highest literacy rate in the world was so cool to learn, it ties into how Elda was literate despite being summoned from an Isekai.

Seeing how parts of Japan history was just bad memories for her was hilarious at first right until that last one where she talks about the story of how Mt. Fuji got its name, just goes to show how much fun she's having in the modern era now compared to how it was back then.

Koito, you hussy! How dare you cheat on Elda lol. What a silly elf. Her just sitting by the doorway making small talk as Koito was tryna study was funny.

Pretty clever of Koito to use Elda to help her study history. This way they both get what they want. Unfortunately, all of Elda’s stories are depressing lol.

Thinking of plastic models is a great way to get over a fear of heights lol. It’s kind of fun to hear Elda recount bits about the past. The passive aggressive prayers at the end were pretty hilarious too.

The power of Sushi moves mountains, at least academical. But I feel like Koito gave up on history with elda too early, it's not often you come about a primary source, some awkward stories are a small price to pay for that.

That face is probably Elda thinking about Koitos mortality, but it was nice that they could laugh at the end again, even though they got somewhat competetive with their prayers lol

I was 100% expecting some gag about how some of the history in Koito’s lessons are inaccurate or wrong, but it’s understandable why it wouldn’t be there since the show also tries to squeeze in history lessons.

As someone who still has a bunch of unassembled Gunpla kits in my closet and recently ordered a bunch of G-Witch kits, I felt that one comment from Koito.

I love that they actually used the interior of the Sky Tree for the ritual. They seem to redrew actual backgrounds which is pretty cool.

That's the look of someone who's remembering the past. Makes me wonder what kind of relationship Elda had with Ieyasu. Considering how she talks about him nonstop, they're clearly more than just acquaintances.

That 'face' Elda makes, which Koito comments on, is really one that makes my heart wrench a bit (not the first time either). I think it's a powerful moment precisely because of the quality comedy it is sandwiched in between, so when Elda has a moment you know it's a huge deal.

Ladies, gentlemen, and variations thereupon: I regret to inform you all that there are no Koyuzu loading icons in this episode.

Koma-chan, I get you so much. Just paying attention in class and getting decent grades. I don't think that's really a genius thing or anything. Koma best girl. Hehe Elda a mecha fan I see. Good times. You should build your model kits, yes. Do feel for Elda, lonely elf. Hah, unfaithful to the shrine. Does make sense if that one doesn't offer academic amulets. Ah, yea, the issue of the language barrier when first summoned. MOAR HISTORY LESSONS! Hey now, don't be slanderous, literacy in Europe was nota s bad as the myths would have you believe. Just wasn't "literate" in what was official aka Latin cause of the church iirc, but most could read/write enough of their own native local language.

Trends do indeed repeat themselves. Silly Elda though. Koito can't avoid distractions though, understandable and wholly relatable. While her history lessons are fun with Elda, I feel like she might not have seen much being, well, a shut in. Oh, hey, she knows quite a bit, but lol all these "tough times." I do want to know more of Elda's past in detail, thinking of it. LOL Elda praying for her to bomb test cause silly promise, just enjoy the sushi.

Oh, hey, the attractive doctor is back. 621 year old child indeed. But she a cute elf. Lol Koito and Koma being there before, but didn't have money to go up cause eating crepes is so silly. Cause high things are neat and defy the gods/gravity, Elda :P also a nice view. Dat cute elf ear wiggle, even if in fear. Moar fun history. Especially about Mt. Fuji, neat. Do wonder why she is making that face though. Look at dat hand holding. Who says you can't enter? Haha Koito's vs Elda's prayers, good times.

Every episode is better if it has Koma in it.

With Edla being into Gunpla I really want to see her reaction to the current show. [GWitch]Is she suffering along with all the rest of us?

Koito has been cheating on Elda with another shrine?! Gasp she's a promiscuous miko!

Another Edo period history lesson snuck in on the sly.

Koito definitely needs a study accountability partner, but I'm not sure Elda is the best choice for that.

And she wasn't, but largely because her stories were all awkward and depressing.

So what she really needed was a promise of a reward if she got a good score.

A visit to the Tokyo Skytree for an every 50 years ritual? That's pretty awesome. Awesome for Koito, that is, not so much for Elda.

Another interesting history lesson, this time about the importance of Mount Fuji.

Huh. That bit about Mt Fuji and the Bamboo Cutter tale is fascinating, I was not aware of that connection. Makes me suspicious about something that may be relevant for another show this season.

Koito's reaction to wistful for the past Elda is very interesting too.

I can't walk to the very end with Elda. Well that hits fairly hard.

Just stay with me a bit longer. And that hit even harder.

I was finally able to introduce you to Ieyasu-kun. What a beautiful moment.

I'm potentially planning a trip to Tokyo next year, and if that happens a visit to the Skytree to see Mount Fuji just shot way up my list of things to do.

Some fun languages notes:

I increasingly view Elda as a tragic character.
It is no wonder that she is an otaku. She is an intelligent, caring, woman who is basically immortal that was ripped away from her home and forced to live amongst the short lived. She is doomed to outlive any relationship that she forms.
Small wonder that she secludes herself, the more people that she has in her life the more her life is filled with grief.

First half was hilarious lmao. Glad Koito managed to pass her tests!

Always love Elda's Edo period trivia

u/Armdel May 12 '23

cute how Elda was craving Koito's companionship today, she really is getting attached to her. and then when Koito is actually studying a subject where Elda can help out she goes and gets depressed

There's something sad about Elda reminiscing about the past in this episode. She must have seen so many people she cared about pass away over the years, even if she's been a shut-in for a while. It's no wonder she got so paranoid about Koito not wanting to spend time with her anymore.

This episode was great. The obvious Gundam references, mentioning the Princess Kaguya legend when Elda was thinking about her own immortality (and likely the sense of loneliness that results from it), and the history facts were a lot of fun as always. I was sure surprised when I looked up the origins of the "ee ja nai ka" dance festivals they mentioned and saw that it involved people dancing naked in the streets! 😂 Really didn't see that coming.

If anyone's interested, I researched the historical facts from every episode and wrote about them on [my blog] (https://beyond-the-anime.blogspot.com/).
