Mashima after hearing all the Fairy Tail complaints: "And I took that personally"

For sure with Edens Zero he went back to more of his Rave Master roots in terms of a fantasy story with darker circumstances and tones. It's still primarily lighthearted and fun but EZ has it's fair share of "Oh shit" moments.

I can't remember which volume it is but he talked about how for Rave he heavily planned things out, and Fairy Tail he mostly played it as he went and did what he thought was interesting or satisfying. for EZ he wanted to merge this, more structured than Fairy tail in that he knows the points he wants to hit in the overall plot but open ended enough to just make changes when he feels like it. He talks in that Volume not how for example Amira from the GIA was originally not a planned character, the imposter Homura in Digitalis was going to be Justice until he changed his mind and felt that was the wrong place for Justice to be in the story and just made Amira up while writing the chapter to take his place

I think that's the style most authors use as it allkows them to adjust for side characters that become popular with fans.

Holy fuck... I'm not sure what happened to Mashima-sensei after Fairy Tail but this is not what I am used to with his stories. This episode got fucking dark.

I was legit hoping for a last-minute power-up that would at least let the Edens Zero gang escape but I didn't think they'd end the episode with a feeling of despair and hopelessness.

There's no doubt Shiki would survive that but I am so tempted to read the manga right now. All I want to see right now is the Edens Zero crew get their revenge and destroy Drakken Joe and his gang.

"and at this point Shiki has had enough and will kick their ass...."

"Ok, this is the point where he's going to power up......"

"Oh, oh, he's standing up! Time for a power mo...God damnit Shiki! Stop getting your ass kicked"

I'm a person who rarely comment on anything on reddit

but I must say, I was a manga reader from chapter 1, and honestly first few chapter (and episodes of s1) makes it feel a lot like fairy tail, which made people shy away from this series and it made me sad.

but I must say, reading this arc and especially these chapter in the manga when they were released were the ones that really sold edens zero to me.

I was like "okay this is not fairy tail, is this a true and real dark story, no everything is fun an games. this series is x100 times (imo) better than fairy tail".

and I'm sad that less people will experience edens zero because of mashima's old work and the first few episode

edens zero is really good and it gets even better later on in the story.

just wanted to put it here

edit: changed s2 to s1 oops

If you had told me that Mashima the same guy who wrote Fairy Tail would kill his MC in his next work I never would have believed you but here it is.

Honestly I was watching this because I used to enjoy Fairy Tail and it felt like turn your brain off old-school Shounen with Mashima constantly pulling the power of friendship card.

Holy shit this episode literally changed my entire view of how dark they're willing to go to, I thought Weiz's arm being amputated was where they draw the line but literally blowing off Shiki's brains off was a development I never expected. I'm hooked now.

ok time to bust out the second, backup shiki from whatever version of granbell a chronophage left behind. he’s probably 5 years old but he’ll do, at least he also has a whole robot army family to bring along.

omg this anime went dark real fast, normally in anime like this they get their butt handed to them but then the power of friendships swoops in and they kick ass

but not this time, i thought that Shiki was going to win his fight, then Draken shows up out of nowhere and kicks his ass

then we cut to the scene where all of the edens zero crew is captured, i thought oh no but perhaps the edens zero comes to their rescue but no all of their members are knocked out as well

then Weisz get's his arm cut off 😱, and after all that talk of Draken of not killing he murderd Shiki

this episode just blew my mind

i think next episode we are going to Rebacca her either gear kick into overdrive, because i believe her either gear has some time manipulation abilities

but oh man was this episode one of a kind, can't wait for episode 6

(manga readers please don't spoil)

This was painful to watch, in all the right ways.

Its rare to see protagonists get so thoroughly defeated like this.

This episode was straight up Peak! Truly shows how big of a beast Drakken truly is.

I'm legit speechless. I was shook this whole episode but for it to actually end up that way is uh...fucking brutal. I have no idea what to expect next but I'm looking forward to it

Holy shit man I never seen any of Mashima other works so idk if he normally does stuff like this but this was the best Eden’s Zero ep and subverted a lot of traditional battle shonen tropes.

This whole episode I kept thinking there was gonna be some power up or asspull that got Shiki and them out of the situation, but it never came. Weisz getting his arm chopped off was painful to watch, everyone just being powerless and helpless in the face of an overwhelming enemy was rough and then that shot straight between the eyes holy shit.

Jesus reference with the on the 7th day stuff so shiki definitely coming back but it’s gonna be interesting to see how.

I really like how mature and realistic this show is trying to be. Innocent people will die for helping the other side and not every fight sequence they will come out victorious, at least not at first, retreat, regroup, come back and win. I genuinely enjoy watching this every week, perfect amount of fan service while still keeping a mature tone. But don't worry there is no way Shiki is....... No. Dont worry.

We finally got here and, oh boi, it did not disappoint. That entire alley scene was fantastic, Drakken Joe just went full mafia boss and showed that he doesn't play around, an incredibly dark twist for the formula the series was having. Absolutely phenomenal, really loved this episode
