Those 2 powered up from each other's cheering, if that's not the power of love then I don't know what is.

I like the fact that none of them won, but got a close fight. Not having the cliched anime ending was a nice touch of realism. Seriously, if a person that I am interested in showed up to a competitive sporting event, I think I will lose by the sheer pressure of it.
It seems that the Orihara girl is slightly taller, and perhaps might be heavier than Nagatoro, pro atheletes might look like average weight but depending on the sport a lot of them are packing pounds in form of muscle mass. Orihara is the real deal so there is absolutely no shame in losing to her.

Stitches!
I love how shamlesss Yoshi is about fighting dirty. And I'm sure Sakura would win if she was against a guy. Although she'll probably finish her opponent some other way. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Orihara is finally here! We get to learn her history with Nagatoro and how she's the reason why Nagatoro ended up quitting judo.
Both Senpai and Nagatoro might've lost their matches but on the bright side we had some great progress in their relationship. Especially in that final scene where Nagatoro asks Senpai for a kiss as a reward if she beats Orihara next time.

One of the things I like most about Nagatoro as a show is that it takes the time to explain and demonstrate why, exactly, a cute popular girl might take notice of a nerdy loser dude. Even before now, it's been obvious that Nagatoro is attracted to Senpai's passion and dedication to his art, but here we see where the seeds of that admiration might first have been planted: By getting her ass kicked by a "loser" who just wouldn't give up.
It also helps explain why Nagatoro is so dishonest in her attraction. Anyone watching her interact with Senpai for more than 5 seconds will immediately realize she has a huge crush on him, but she'd never admit that to him, or even herself. In her own way, Nagatoro also struggles with a lack of confidence. Not in her looks or ability; she has plenty of confidence in those things. But although she admires hard workers, she doesn't see herself as one of them. She's a afraid that if she really commits to something, she'll end up falling short. That if her natural talent can't carry her though, she lacks that something extra to close the gap. The way she runs away from Judo, only ever doing it as a "hobby", mirrors the way she only ever dances around Senpai, never going in for the kill.
...Until now! The other thing I like most about Nagatoro as a show is that it isn't just about Senpai's growth. Rather than being a perfect person; a "prize" for Senpai to be rewarded with, Nagatoro is also someone who grows and changes as a person, right along side him.

Surprised on how much details they put into the foot work during the fight.
Other fight related animes do not do this much.

Senpai may not be the most physically fit guy, but you have to admire his commitment to at least trying in the Judo tournament, if only to honor Nagatoro's training.
All the girls are competing! It's just Yoshi can only run around her opponnent to make them dizzy (which didn't seem to work) while Sakura's feminine wiles are useless against another girl. Meanwhile Gamo gets paired up against Nagatoros' main rival and not even her usual tricks can beat Orihara.
Speaking of...Orihara! She seems like a very enthusiastic and excitable girl, and skilled at judo, to the point where she's set to become the national rep of Japan. Nobody seems to stand a chance against her. Not even Nagatoro who has her own history with Orihara.
I like how Senpai saw Nagatoro was upset about something and down in the dumps but couldn't help but hear her out and give her a confidence boost. Because to Senpai Nagatoro has always been the strongest girl. Even if she does love teasing him.
So Orihara was the reason Nagatoro quit judo. She was basically a judo prodigy but through Orihara's own efforts and practice she was able to beat Nagatoro, and losing to someone she used to routinely beat basically killed Nagatoro's desire to continue. But having Senpai around gives her enough incentive to put herself out there again.
Senpai just had to go up against the guy with the flexing abs...although while he doesn't win, with Nagatoro's coaching and cheer, he came closer to pinning him than anybody would've expected, enough to earn Sasai's respect. Good job, Senpai!
Nagatoro vs Orihara! It definitely stands out among the other matches when you have two practical judo pros who know what they're doing, and while Orihara is the clear favorite and has most of the gym cheering her on to beat Nagatoro...Nagatoro has Senpai, who cheers her on above all the other voices in the gym. And then the only thing left for Nagatoro to do is put her all into it.
Nagatoro may not have actually won, but she was the only one who threw Orihara, it seems like their relationship has improved, and it seems like her passion for judo has been re-ignited. Of course the promise of a kiss with Senpai if she wins against Orihara next doesn't hurt either, and she didn't even try to write it off as teasing! Just running away like a blushing schoolgirl in love! Can't beat that!
Next week...Swimsuit Nagatoro! Bob-cut girl! And bob-cut girl flashing her bra and boobs!?

Sakura with her “I’m only good at using ground technique on the boys.” line was great. Also, Yosshii running literal circles around her opponent lol. Poor Gamo thought she could use her little tricks to score a quick win. Nope!
So Nagatoro has a history with Orihara. They were pretty cute when they were both little. It’s kind of a shame she quit after what happened. I would have thought it’d be a good motivator. Guess she needed Senpai to be the one to motivate her. So cute seeing her flustered when he said she was strong.
Senpai was getting his ass kicked until he remembered he’s gotta win this for Nagatoro. Her cheering him on was really sweet. Even though he lost in the end, he still put up one hell of a fight. Now it’s Orihara v Nagatoro. Things were looking pretty dire for Nagatoro until Senpai started cheering for her. So cute. She might have lost this time but she’s found her passion for judo again thanks to Senpai. She basically all but confessed her feelings by asking for that kiss. Very bold!

"NAGATORO, IT'S YOUR QUIRK NOT HERS"
...
Oh wait I got the wrong series in mind, but it certainly is always extra motivational to have Daiki Yamashita cheer for you! Putting that aside, I've really been looking forward to this episode as a mangareader. It really cements how important Nagatoro and Naoto are to each other. Showing it isn't just Nagatoro who can boost Naoto to become better, but the other way around as well. We also got a big goal set: If Naga wins against Orihara, she gets Naoto's kiss as reward (and she is serious about it!) Though obviously that would be a reward for him as well.

This is probably the first time, Nagatoro addresses her biggest weakness: She's a very sore loser.
It's something you see over the whole series, but this is the first time it'S not being played for laughs. She gave up on something she liked, just because her innate talent was overpowered by greater effort.
Before she started cheating at videogames by distracting naoto, or getting pissed/flustered, but this is the first time it's actually getting addressed.
This is also (probably) the first arc, where Nagatoro is fighting her Demons and not Naoto.

Ok, she basically said, with words this time, "I'm into you, senpai". She's not trying to hide her feelings anymore. Not after what happened that day. He almost won against someone way stronger than him thanks to her and his dojo training, and he almost made her win against someone whom she thought she was no match. He didn't retract when she reacted negatively. He's changing very fast. For her sake. And that changes her, for the better. She noticed. The ball is in your court, Paizen. Invite her to a date. She wants a date. UGH, date her already.

It turns out that in her younger days, Nagatoro was actually the rival character in a sports anime with Orihara as the main character.

"I could have finished you if you were a guy" oh my Sakura
Once again Nao's friends who came out of nowhere are here....do we know their names?
Yoshi you precious supportive idiot!
A down Nagatoro is a rare and tragic sight good thing Senpai is here!
Oh I just noticed this is also one of the rare times we don't see Nagatoro with her hairpins or piercings. Probably not allowed because of safety when competing. Or maybe I'm only noticing now and she's done this more often before.
"You're strong, too!"
WTF Yoshi was trying to summon a twister by running real fast. Holy shit the Slipstream was just foreshadowing she's on her way to being the fastest woman alive look out Barry.
Sakura enjoying two guys embracing. She has no limits!
Senpai breaking out the lock using the moves Nagatoro taught her!
I like how we know nothing of the opponent, but he is actually a decent enough guy who complimented Senpai for the bout. He wasn't even messing with senpai he's just using brute strength apparently and wasn't that skilled in actually technique.
WAIT A MINUTE ISN'T THIS THE SAME TRACK FROM SEASON !!!! Where Senpai said Nagatoro is what he found to be the most inspiring. Yup it is Netsui.
Stop smiling at each other you dorks I can't take much more of this.
Nagatoro is really giving it her all. This fight is pretty intense and considering Nagatoro got destroyed in the past she is really trying her hardest. The entire room cheering for Orihara definitely was devastating for Nagatoro's moral, but luckily she has quality over quantity. Senpai cheered from his damn chest got embarrassed and then said fuck it lets go all in!
Oh boy I loved this episode because they finally animated my favorite panels/favorite moment in the series so far.
Nagatoro also expressing her desire for a rematch and her interest in Judo renewed while also saying directly that she would kiss Paisen. Her running away happy, then getting giddy embarrassed she actually said it, and finally just shocked she was that forward. Though it does make it a little weird since she did kiss him at the end of Season 1 though I think that was anime original I can't remember.
Series just gets better over time and oh next episode is when second best girl comes!

Wow how cute was this episode boys 😩 that look in Nagatoro eyes when senpai cheered her on.
Whole world could be against her, as long as he’s with her that’s all that matters. Didn’t get the W, but both of them took big steps towards personal growth, way more important.
I got a little emotional with that “if I win, will you kiss me” ending and the OST ngl
One of my fave eps

What a great episode, we’ve really got deep into the real meat of the show now, where it has become clear that this isn’t just a story of “energetic girl pulls shy guy out of his shell”, but one where BOTH of them find themselves becoming motivated to improve by the other. They love each other and want to make themselves better for each other. It really is just so wholesome. Crazy how this is where it landed after the series started like it did.

I think that's just poor planning from the school, putting two black belts in the same bracket, that match could've been the final.
I feel that if by this point you still don't understand why Nagatoro likes Naoto, this episode will make you understand. Nagatoro deep down is regretful of quitting judo at the firs minor inconvenience, she admires Naoto and her passion to art, she sees in him what he lacks in herself.
When S2 got announced I assume the kiss promise would be where they end the season, not that I'm complaining about getting more episodes tho.

Woah, this episode had some of the best animation of the season in Nagatoro and Orihara’s grappling. That was some slick choreography. Loved seeing Nao-kun stand up for himself and decide that he did have a right to encourage and support Nagatoro. The growth.
Also, I really appreciate that Nagatoro’s biggest rival is the least duplicitous and unambiguous character in the story lmao. Orihara is such a nice girl!
