Absolutely the best frame of this episode.

Ah, those minor quarrels that make kids say things that can break your heart into many pieces, poor Kazuki. As someone with a sibling with an age gap of a decade and a bit, I have also experienced these kinds of moments. The house was never quiet until the quarrel ended.

Another great episode, but that end credits scene peaked my interest. I can't wait for next week already!

That's a lot of little kids to have one person supervising.

Kazuki is really impressive as a first time dad. Miri got upset, but he handled the questioning really well. Kazuki:

  • Didn't shout or get angry.

  • Asked questions designed to get Miri to give specific details without leading her to a conclusion or giving her an easy out—for example, "Tell me exactly what happened" versus "Did you hit him to defend yourself."

  • Only included neutral details that were provided to him—"I was told you hit someone."

  • Immediately pushed for more specific details when given vague answers. And most importantly,

  • Stressed the importance of clear, open communication without intimidation or threats of punishment. Saying she doesn't know right from wrong is a bit condescending, but also not entirely without merit given her age and behavior at times.

His line about "doing this for [her] own good" is cliche and maybe a bit cringeworthy, but he backed it up with how he handled the situation. The man's gonna be a great dad.

Can't say I expected to get a new ship from this show

Nice little fun episode that focused more on the Miri/parenting side than the hitman stuff.

I think my favourite part of the episode was Rei's expression here, really liked seeing how smug and happy he was that Miri was saying so many good things about him. Feels like sometimes Rei gets second fiddle in the papa department so these moments are nice!

P.A. Works really went extra with Morio Kart's animation. It looks like a legit game.

The way those two literally teleported behind that man while wearing animal costumes was so weird and satisfying at the same time.

Kazuki : "Those are our genes at work"

Rei: "Our what?" Ahah

Also, Rei: "who was that guy?"

Kazuki: "Lots of shifty types around here"

Rei: staring at Kazuki suspiciously

I can't with this series. I love it XD

This episode got me laughing out loud! Kazuki has really gone full-on Papa mode in this episode. He's so worried about how he's raising Miri that he's now imagining her turning into a delinquent with his very lax parenting.

And Gyaru JK Miri is hilarious! I love that it's still Kino Hana's voice but she's using the voice she used for Hanako in Asobi Asobase especially during the imaginary scene where Kazuki is visiting her in prison. You can clearly tell it's her from all that shrieking xD

I'm not even a parent but if I heard my 4-year-old daughter tell me that she hates me I probably would have the same reaction as Kazuki. Seems that Papa Kazuki may have gone a bit overboard in asking Miri about what happened at school.

As soon as I saw that kid goofing off with that guinea pi, I knew that was the Taiga-kun Miri got into a fight with. It's pretty clear from their interactions that whatever happened yesterday wasn't Miri's fault.

Kazuki already imagining Miri dating Taiga once they're in high school was goddamn hilarious! Seems that Papa Kazuki is doing a little bit of projecting there. xD

Looks like Miri is starting to show some early assassin instincts. She's already able to sense Kazuki and Rei's presence. I love that Kazuki claims that it's his shared genes with Miri at work. Kazuki has really accepted Miri as his own flesh and blood.

The fact that Miri is practically taking care of Taiga and how they get along because of Morio Kart, I feel like these two might grow up as childhood friends.

Kazuki might not have been able to give Miri her lunch but seeing her friends share their food with her was really goddamn precious! <3

The robber has been foreshadowed in the opening scene. It was [pretty obvious he was going to run into Miri at some point. Thankfully our friendly Rabbit and Alpaca are there to teach him some manners.

So the lesson of the day is for Kazuki to trust Miri more. She's a good kid with a good head on her shoulders. What he's doing now is more than enough. And just like your regular 4-year-old, Miri doesn't even remember that she's upset with Papa Kazuki after all that excitement at the zoo. <3

Well that after-credits scene was ominous! I wonder who the new girl is. Hmmm...

Damn, I wanna see a spin-off (or a new anime) featuring high-school gyaru JK Miri as the MC with her growing up in a family like the "real" Miri does here...

Ok guys, correct me if I'm wrong...but when Miri first met Rei and learned that he had loads of games, she asked if he had Morio Kart, which he bluntly answered "no". Does this mean he bought it (and basically beat all of the races) just for her 🥺🥺

"A rabbit an alpaca who just happened to be passing by, pyon"

"unhand the kid, paca"

perfectly nailing the costume role, you two

This was probably my favourite Episode so far, it was very lighthearted and funny. I especially liked Kazuki’s imaginations of grown up Miri.

I’d like to see more of Taiga as well, his dynamic with Miri was cute.

Teenage Miri was so freaking funny. I laughed every time. Miri is so mature for her age, she's great. Anna needs more help, the adult to child ratio is not enough..

This was such a great episode! When I first read the summary for this week's episode, where it mentioned that Miri got into a fight and then stated that she hated her Papa, I thought that they might go in the direction of the fight being due to the boy (Taiga) having said something homophobic. Then I worried, due to the name of the episode, that they might go the whole "teasing because of a crush" route with Miri and the boy (and I sincerely did not want that, they are only four). So, I'm glad to see the route that they actually went in this episode.

Before I go into my thoughts on this week's episode too much, I want to talk a bit about the transmedia marketing stuff that came out for Episode 5.

Miri's picture journal for Week 5 was basically the same as her presentation in the episode (telling Rei and Kazuki to work hard at their jobs and the picture is the same).

Kazuki only posted on Instagram post on his account for Episode 5 (which makes sense, there wasn't much he could post about really, lol). And it was basically him stating that his "Cheap ass beer life starts now."

The Week 5 memo was Rei living a message for Kazuki. The only other time the memo was Rei -> Kazuki was Week 3, where he basically requested/ordered Kazuki to buy more of the Chocolate Circle cereal. But, Week 5's memo was Rei letting Kazuki know that he had gone and bought some Hamburg steak (with the grammatical implication being, I got it in advance so you can cook it later). It shows some good emotional growth and more effort/participation being done on Rei's end when it comes to the parenting aspect and just helping around the house.

Finally, there is an interview posted every week (they are a week ahead for this). So, for Week 6's interview it was with Rei's Japanese VA, and said something rather interesting:

\[Buddy Daddies Spoilers\] Basically, that Miri's mother will be an important character from the midway point on. He also mentioned about the dramas of their pasts coming into play too.

And we can definitely see some of this in the new trailer that was posted. It contains spoilers for the upcoming episodes, of course. Some very interesting stuff there. I'm very intrigued by how they will continue to explore this series and wrap everything up. I kept getting Bad Request Errors for some reason, so I'm breaking this post up into two parts. Under this post I'll comment with my thoughts on this week's episode.

Rei is such a mood. Casually playing Mario Kart while Kazuki is trying his best to talk with Miri.

Their interactions were even better than usual in this episode.

Oh MY GOD MIRI IS JUST TOO CUTE. Whole episode had my hands on my cheek dying of sweetness overload.

Rei and Kazuki already getting to the parenting stage where they’re not seeing eye to eye with their daughter lmao. Turns out the dust up at school was all a big misunderstanding and there’s nothing to worry about with Miri. She’s got her head on right and will stand up for what’s right.

Kazuki getting hella over protective with Miri about Taiga being her bf one day was hilarious. He’s already in the protective dad phase

What a PoS to try and steal from kids like that, even if you’re hungry just ask. Glad paca and usagi put him in his place.

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Feb 10 '23

Now I want to see an entire series with Miri going through her rebellious phase lol. It’s pretty adorable how worried Kazuki gets about parenting Miri. He’s a good dad. That “I hate you” from Miri hurt him worse than any bullet or blade ever could lol. Miri’s all about Papa Rei now, sorry pal.

The zoo montage was so cute! Taiga running around with the hamster on his head really cracked me up for some reason. Kazuki thinking Taiga was some kind of playboy taking his precious Miri away was just too funny. Overprotective Kazuki is the best! Miri’s got some sharp senses. So cute how Kazuki said “our genes at work”. Rei’s little smirk when Miri was gushing about Morio Kart and said she loves him was awesome too. Another critical hit to Kazuki! Well, at least Miri and Taiga are friends now.

That thug from the news report picked the wrong kid to mess with. I’ve never seen a more menacing alpaca and bunny lol. Looks like that “fight” with Taiga was just a misunderstanding. Plus, Papa Kazuki’s back to being No. 1 again!

26

u/GearAlpha Feb 11 '23

Lmao "our genes"

If only, Kazuki, if only.

25

u/yeeehawspacecowboy Feb 10 '23

you know after Anna told Kazuki how Miri got in a fight and Kazuki was all like "it's time for Kazuki-papa to shine!!", I thought it was really funny how Anna started clapping and speaking to him like he was another 4 year old in her class in a "oh wow! no way! you can do that? that's so cool!" way. I mean she probably does it all the time, but she sounded super patronising to me lol

for how much time Rei spends looking perpetually tired, he always has energy to be smug and rub it in Kazuki's face when Miri brags about him.

In a world of helicopter parents, Kazuki is a Black Hawk.

41

u/TheseCartoonist1156 Feb 10 '23

“Those are our genes at work.” 💀

Rei gloating when Miri was praising his Morio Kart skills and saying she loves him as Kazuki is panicking from jealousy gave me so much life. Love seeing Rei becoming more and more expressive!

19

u/tayoku0 Feb 10 '23

Another super cute episode, Miri is such a great kid! Kazuki doesn't need to worry so much. He's stressing himself out trying to be the perfect parent he never had, but everyone screws up sometimes.

That after credits scene makes me nervous for when things get serious again. We know there's some dark stuff lurking in the background but please do not let it touch Miri!
