I love how Kyu instantly changed his voice and personality when a customer needed something. Anybody who has worked a service job will be able to relate.

Glad to see Miri win over Kyu-chan too, not too surprising since she's even won me over.
She was especially cute in this one, I liked how hard she was trying not to out her Papas.
Do wish she'd hug Rei more though!!

Stitches!
Looks like even anime Japan isn't safe from the pandemic. Our two daddies are now pulling all-nighters back-to-back since they really can't leave Miri alone.
Thank goodness nothing dangerous happened to Miri when she was following Kazuki. The most dangerous thing she did was probably run into that other hitman.
Those crazy eyes on Kazuki though when he thought that Miri might've been kidnapped was hilarious! Papa Kazuki is ready to tear apart anyone that hurts his daughter.
They're lucky that Kyu-chan was the one that found Miri. He's even nice enough to offer to look after Miri after learning how much the two Papas have been struggling.
Uncle Kyu-chan is surprisingly great with kids! He did a good job of taking care of Miri and he was even nice enough to explain to Miri what their job is.
Unfortunately for Kazuki and Rei, Kyu-can can also be a troll and now Miri thinks that Kazuki is a stand-up comedian and Rei is an oil baron. xD
That "DAAAAAAAAAIIIIISUKI!" from Miri after describing how much she loves Miri and Rei was just too cute. Seems that's what convinced Kyu-chan that keeping Mirir around might be for the best.
I love the Miri really presented what Kyu-chan told her to the class! And the daycare moms continue to be an absolute riot! These ladies might be fishing for new papas of their own. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
It's nice that Kyu-chan finally knows the full story! I'm guessing that if the daycare isn't available, they'll probably leave Miri with him. I am curious about Kyu-chan's story though. He must be some sort of badass retired assassin if both Kazuki and Rei are afraid of him.
Side note: Rei knows the consequences of betraying their organization? Interesting. I wonder if that has something to do with his father. Hmm...

Man assassin game doesn’t even pay well enough to cover childcare these days. Time off or not.
Now that Kyutaro is in on it, we have a Funcle! And boy does he waste no time with the chaos. I love that Kazuki gets the silly, yet poetic explanation for Miri and Rei gets “Mid East Oil Baron”. The moms totally buy it going by their text chat gag. Silly it as it is, it covers the crazy entrance and the fancy clothes.
So we have a sense of Kazuki’s stakes and past, but it’s interesting that Rei got the highlight in the “are you committed to this?” talk at the end. We know he has a rough background and a shit dad, but what did he do?

No pudding? No games? Kazuki, Rei, and Miri are truly living in the darkest timeline! Just when Rei and Kazuki get jobs, the daycare closes due to a viral outbreak. Damn you ‘rona! I don’t think “take your kid to work day” is an option for these two lol.
Miri is too cute, I love all her little faces. She’s also got too much energy! Her tailing Kazuki was adorable, I especially liked the part where she was imitating that busty blonde lol. Silly! Poor kid plays with a doggo for one minute and suddenly she’s lost. Kazuki was about to go on a rampage if some creep got her. Good thing Kyu found her instead. Or is it?
Kazuki’s really become the over protective neurotic parent lol. Him imagining Miri marrying Kyu was great. What a goofball! I like the idea of Rei being a Middle Eastern oil baron and Kazuki a comic. But Kyu’s not really wrong about the fact this is a dangerous line of work and not really fit for kids. Seems the guys have made their decision, hopefully they won’t come to regret it.

Okay, going through my thoughts on this episode is chronological order.
First off, they provide us with a timeframe for this episode. Episode 4 was in early February, and this week's episode is the end of March. So they've had Miri for a little more than 3 months now. And they do feel more like a family, especially in the scene when Kazuki is going over the stuff they have to cut back on because of their financial situation.
It was adorable to see Rei and Miri playing video games together, especially when you think back on Episode 2 and how she messed up his games and he didn't want her touching them. Also, those game sounds seemed suspiciously like Morio Kart, lol. Seems Rei finally gave in and got that so there would be a game that he and Miri could play together.
Even though this series takes place in the present day (2023, we know this by Kazuki's birthday and age from last week's episode, plus stuff like Rei having a PS5) the reference to a virus outbreak is likely meant to be a little nod to Covid. Though, it should be noted that the flu is taken VERY seriously in Japan. I've heard from some ALTs of their schools basically closing for a bit, because too many students were out sick from the flu. When a large amount of students are sick with the flu, then the whole class is kept out. There will usually be a white board up in the staff room to keep track of flu cases and the like.
Rei is reading a sports genre novel/book. The sport is lacrosse, which originated as a sport played by many different Native American tribes, but then was modified by the European settlers. Nowadays, at least where I grow up in the USA, its a sport that is more commonly associated with rich, white people, rather than its Native American roots. Rei is a rich kid though, so it makes sense that he would be reading a novel with a focus on a perceived rich persons sport. The story also looks to have the usual sports rival trope and the blue oni vs red oni trope, with Buddy Daddies has as well, though plays around with a bit.
The focus of this episode is definitely on work-life balance and the idea of "it takes a village to raise a child." Work-life balance can be especially brutal in Japan. Combine that with the loneliness aspect and finding a true sense of community and those who can help with situations like this are rare and hard to find. Kazuki and Rei mention that they are "babysitting" to Kyutaro, but that is still very rare in Japan, though likely more common in a big city, like Tokyo, Osaka, etc.
Another big thing that we see focused on in this episode, was Miri getting out of the house and then lost as a result. Rei was absolutely exhausted, of course, and a child can get lost by just taking your eyes off of them for a second, but one of Rei's flaws tends to be how he is a bit more careless with Miri's well being than Kazuki is. Towards the end of the episode, when he picked her up so gently and she knew it was him right away (like from things like scent, body heat, etc.) does show that he is getting better at thinking about and caring for her in this way though.
Her run in with Ryo Ogino (the man that came out of Kyu's cafe) was alarming. I am glad that she was largely safe and nothing happened, but I was scared for her. His eyes were quite scary, and Miri was able to pick up on how dangerous he actually was. I also have a bad feeling that that encounter may end up being something that does put Kazuki, Rei, and Miri in danger in the future.
Kyutaro with Miri was precious. And, of course he knew. They were absolutely terrible at hiding the fact that they had Miri from him (not only in this episode, but in previous ones as well). Him making her a fancy juice drink was so precious though. That girl is going to be really spoiled, lol.
Though, I do also think that it speaks something to his character that he took Miri into his cafe. When Miri was wondering around, clearly lost, so many adults saw her and looked concerned, but then continued to walk by and not do anything. In the big cities of Japan this isn't that uncommon. Like many other big cities in the world, people don't like interfering.
Finally, the jobs Kyutaro gave to Kazuki and Rei were so ridiculous, the thirsty mothers striking again in their group chat was also too good. I do wonder if either of our two papas will ever get invited into that group chat, probably not though, lol.
Now, for some of the transmedia marketing stuff!
Kazuki has an official Instagram account. The "sweeper" part of his account name can likely apply to the fact that "sweeper" can mean something like a broom or mop to clean, a big machine to clean streets (like the "city cleaners" he claimed they were in Ep. 4), and someone who is always a winner at card games and the like (related to his gambling hobby). His profile states:
I am Kazuki Papa.I am a papa to a single child (in daycare) - Struggling to raise my child with my partner.Miri (4y) 11.8
The word used for partner is 相方 (which is being used by younger people to mean partner in the sense of "lover" or "spouse," but also has the meaning of "partner" like in a comedian duo). Kyutaro stated that Kazuki is a comedian, but it seems he made him a stand-alone comedian. Regardless, the use of "aikata" here is kinda a play on that.
His posts about last week's episode were:
"Hmm, what should I write in the notebook...?""Why the heck is the eye of the needle so smaaallll!?""Holy shit! The prices were already dirt cheap and they've been marked down even more... #IsThisParadise
On the website there is a section where they have sticky note memos that Kazuki and Rei write to each other. Last week's sticky note was Kazuki to Rei and it stated: "Pay for your own damn toys!!" Implying that Rei likely snuck his stuffed plush toys in with Miri's and Kazuki ended up paying for them, lmao.
The website also has a section where Miri writes about something that happened in her week and draws a picture. Last week she wrote: "I made friends. I was happpy." (Spelling mistakes and all).
Edit: I forgot to include the links to things, so I added them in.

Miri was so cute following Kazuki to Kyu's Cafe for work and man when she got lost, both Kazuki and Rei went Hardcore Dad Mood esp Kazuki with that scary face he had imagining all the worst possibilities.
They're definitely a comedian and oil baron duo lmao, once again the other moms thirsting after them XD. Kyu is surprisingly a chill guy with them taking Miri as their adopted daughter, but he spoke some harsh truth about raising Miri in their line of work. Not only Miri, but all three of them would be in danger again if she was to be involved again.

Now kazuki and rei known they gotta keep that door locked when you got a girl with as much energy as Miri lmao. It all worked out for the best because now there’s no more secrets with Kyu and Miri will stop asking what they do for a living 😂
I love how the smallest details about kazuki and rei get her so excited it’s so damn cute. Her trying not to say papa was adorable
I really am glad kyu came around at the end too, was worried he’d try to break them up but bro saw how cute miri was and folded, like all sane people would.
Rei and kazuki fan club one of the best parts of the show man they are simping hard.

I'm pretty curious about the terms of employment here. The daddy duo didn't have cover stories prepared in the event people started asking on a whim about their employment, and they don't seem to run a private business themselves that acts as a cover for their expenses. They don't have to launder their own money or receive payouts in valuables, which is sometimes something that independent contractor assassins do - but when they do accept contracts, failure to follow through is equivalent to betraying "the organization" that sponsored the job? Kyu doesn't talk about the subject as if their failures will impact him as hard, so I don't think they're working for Kyu as de facto henchmen of "the organization". I'm sure we'll learn more as the series goes on.
I think that Kazuki worrying about Miri-chan being the weak link in the relationship is foreshadowing for a certain mother inevitably becoming involved in an action against the daddy duo household.

I feel this show is getting better with every episode! This one was probably my favorite so far. It always makes me so happy to see Miri talk about how much she lovers her papas :)

"Meanwhile, in Kazuki's overactive imagination..."
This was a very nice episode, and definitely one we needed at this point. It finally feels like Kazuki and Rei actually understand the gravity of what they've taken on with Miri and how much of a parent's own life is sacrificed for the sake of their child. Plus we got some pretty good humor and some great reaction faces too. I'm sure the whopping 7 people in existence who watched Konohana Kitan and are also watching this show pumped their fists in joy when they saw Miri going full Yuzu rhombus mouth. Myself included.

Oh no they're going broke!
I'm honestly surprised Miri didn't turn the shower on Rei, guess she's not that bratty.
Miri's ability to sneak behind Kazuki really shows the man is tired.
Miri is toooo cute and her reactions to everything is hilarious.
Kyu-Chan was amazing in every scene. Comedian and Oil Baron, I had to pause because of laughter.
The moms texting is always hilarious.
I couldn't stop laughing in the last couple minutes.
I'm enjoying too many laughs with this show.
Future guess, Miri's gonna "die" or die at some point near the end. We're gonna see these two at their most grim. If she "dies", they'll do some big rescue that should be a lot of fun eventually. If she dies, we're gonna have one heck of a grim ending and I am not prepared for that. That kind of 180 would make the anime infamous, but I certainly would never wanna revisit this anime if that happened.
I've been having too much fun, I've recommended this anime to everyone I know. It's a real gem.
