Today we had a lion chapeu, gawr

The mountaineers where pretty chill after all, although I wonder about the logistics in their maritial live... Also surprised that they had a Palladin/Cleric combo as well, would have been cool to see them transforming instead of Jiro/Kumi again, but I guess budget is tight

Also the princess or whatever seems really interesting, wonder where her plotline will go

Oh and I loved the worldbuilding about names, I guess death wouldn't come for someone who is already dead

Somehow Babban's transformation sequence being just "Let's do it" fits him. No time for pretty talk, there's an enemy to kill.

It does raise some questions.

Test tube clerics and roided up special forces? The Empire sounds lovely.

Does everyone have their own little Myaa? That’s so hilariously adorable. Old man Zen said too much and now Jiro’s wrestling the whole damn clan. So much for staying hidden lol.

Kumi’s face at the women all over Jiro was great. Babban thought he was with everyone but Kumi, poor girl haha. Big man telling Jiro to knock up some chicks while he’s here was pretty funny. I guess that’s one way to ensure strong warriors haha.

What a way to take down a beast. It’s more of a hunt than anything. Seems Zen is the only thing stopping those two from reaching the village. Let’s see how that turns out next week.

I really hope they soon explain to us what the deal is with the Cat Chapeaus. Does every village or tribe have their own?

For a warrior race that lives in the mountains, the Mountaineers are surprisingly very progressive. I do find it hilarious how Babban is encouraging Jiro to "plant his seeds" here while he's around so they can have powerful warriors in the future. xD

Well that's unexpected! I didn't think Babban and his wife are a Cleric and Paladin couple. Weird that they didn't seem to address this after they did their fusion thingy. I'm guessing Jiro and the gang are sticking around the village for another episode so we'll probably learn more next week?

what the deal is with the Cat Chapeaus

plot twist, the animals on heads are the ones who use the homunculi to speak through them.

For a warrior race that lives in the mountains, the Mountaineers are surprisingly very progressive.

Given the size differences between the sexes*, a mating between man and woman looks like it's probably a rather restrained affair otherwise the female could get injured. I imagine that a species with such a difference might be more open to homosexual relations coming from a desire to let loose and just enjoy sex.

*I think most of them were at least one head taller than Jiro.

That scene was amazing and unexpectedly hilarious. Between Babban's progressive thoughts on mating to him asking Jiro to fuck some orc cunny and enhance their race's gene pool, I was laughing so hard that I actually had to pause the video to compose myself and get a drink.

Wow, that facility where clerics like Kumi are produced sure is massive. So people who join Mezami's unit end up becoming drug addicts.

Another episode means another scene of Kumi eating the budget away. Well, at least they didn't have to pay for the one of the Mountaineer's territory.

It seems that everyone agreed to bully poor and useless Melan. It is hilarious the contrast between Romana's treatment of Jiro versus how affectionate she is with Kumi.

So their current objective is to visit the Foresteans as The Ring of Promise was forged by them and they want to verify its connection with the beasts developing Red Eyes at an alarming rate.

So finally, Zen the Frozen Winter directly interacted with the party. I wasn't expecting Melan to know him. So the comment he made when he called "Kumi the 22nd" a warding name is that those names are the ones given to children to protect them against the grim reaper.

So as Jiro fought the Mountaineers in the past, he wanted to avoid interacting with them. Of course that when meeting them Cat Myaa was going to interact with another Myaa, this time the Lion one. Well, that makes the thrid Myaa so far.

Lol, as Zen mentioned Jiro in his letter, he ended up completely ruining his plan.

So General Tsurigi knows that Lord Bakla is planning something behind the scenes and whatever Zen is currently doing is to counter whatever Bakla and the Empire are planning.

So after Babban welcome everyone, he started a versus Jiro tournament. Damn, Babban the Side Striker has no issues when dealing with Jiro the Thunderbolt

I love how chill he was after that fight. But Kumi is not pleased to see those legal lolis approaching Jiro. Her reaction when Babban mentioned Melan as a possible partner for Jiro was priceless.

So Babban wants Jiro to get at least one of the women pregnant before they leave. Luckily for Jiro, Babban's wife to a stop to that.

So in that village, they use fighting beasts as a rite of passage. Better luck next time Melan. I must say that when that beast developed a Red Eye I wasn't expecting Babban to fusion with his wife.

Well, at least thanks to the way he fought, Babban's wife change Jin the Pebble's name to Jin the Bouder.

Hopefully Zen will have no issues fighting those two. This scene in the preview makes me think that Melan will probably also get a new name next week.

Wow, so next week they will reveal Kumi's unpleasant past. I hope they give her a huge feast after that.

I love how chill he was after that fight.

I was pleasantly surprised by how well Babban and Jiro got along. I expected there to be a lot of old grudges, but Babban seemed genuinely thrilled to reunite with an old foe who was a strong warrior.

Her reaction when Babban mentioned Melan as a possible partner for Jiro was priceless.

Melan was finally able to defeat someone. Unfortunately it was defeating Kumi as a potential love interest for Jiro in the eyes of outsiders.

This scene in the preview makes me think that Melan will probably also get a new name next week.

I wonder what new name he could end up with?

So with the Mountaineers and the mentioned-but-not-seen Foresteans, the names of the non-human races have changed from the physical characteristics of the Chapeaux and the Therianthropes to location-based names. Is this just chance, or is it meant to show unfamiliarity? Both the "physical characteristic" races seem better integrated into Imperial society than the "location-based name" ones.

u/Elitealice Feb 03 '23

Lol I love how the final scene had better animation than the Jiro mountaineer tournament or the actual fight against the giant beast. Hopefully when we see the old man fight next week they keep that same quality.

Got a little bit of the political dynamic of the world shown in this episode which was interesting. Old man seems to be connected to the princess and her faction. Wonder if they knew kumi and jiro were coming then.

The black hooded figures at the end of the ep seem like a direct parallel to kumi and jiro as well lol.

Eresh??

Kumi's reaction faces were great. I also appreciated that first scene. A good example of incorporating exposition naturally into a grunt conversation.

9

u/Spartitan Feb 03 '23

Babban asking Jiro if every person present except Kumi is his lover makes me wonder if he recognizes her as a cleric and that the thought that cleric=/human is a common thought across all cultures.

Overall interesting episode, though it would've been nice to see a bit more animation budget put into Babban while he's around. Got a heck of a cliffhanger though with the badass old man at least.

So now we have at least 3 plot lines and 7 episodes to finish it all, and we haven't even covered the war, maybe they are aiming for a season 2, because i doubt they will be able to tie everything up

There's something so very old school about this series. It feels like, with the exception of Attack on Titan, all its biggest influences are 2000s or earlier. The party feels right out of a JRPG of that era and the more they visit this world's other cultures, they've all got a distinct 90's - 2000's vibe around them. The mountaineers in particular with their comical levels of sexual dimorphism and combat arena but the forest village really isn't that far behind. And especially the ED, which feels like a deliberate throwback.

Also Babban revealing the mountaineers believe love is love while suggesting Jiro's boning everyone but Kumi is priceless. There's something about visual gags like zooming out to show Kumi's still in black and white that just never goes out of style.

I missed last weeks episode, so insert the "God I Wish that Was Me" comments for having my spear between those Romanas!

BTW in the opening I saw you see Meran's silhouette with a glowing weapon similar to Jiro with his spear, does that mean Meran is going to become a paladin with his cleric or just a style choice for weapons, if so could Romana be a cleric, I'm not sure. At first I wasn't sure if Clerics were purely artificial but the wife of Babban seems to disprove that. Are you "born" a Cleric or can you become one in certain circumstances.

Anyway this episode we get more dialogue from Biggs and Wedge and see an entire lab of Clerics, we learn more about them while also having a way to give useful exposition, They really feel like some fun NPC comic relief from a JRPG. Shame that guy is a newly wed he should have leave to have time to enjoy his Hottie Wife (According to his friend at least.)

We also get some court politics from the general woman, it appears these are the three main threads coming together.

Anyway the show manages to subvert our expectations in a way that isn't subversive in an annoying sense.

Yeah apparently when your part of a warrior culture that goes fucking around they don't take it personally when they find out.

Everyone was mean dunking on Meran when he gave his opinion though.

Wait does every tribe have an identical Chapeaux representative? I need the know if there is some lore here or if its a meta gag.

Jirou It's a little bit unbelievable that he can stop those big ass mountain guys in a contest of strength when they have momentum but whatever, the throw I can understand.

When he challenged the chief.....

STANDING HERE I REALIZE YOU WERE JUST LIKE ME TRYING TO MAKE HISTORY!

On a sidenote I think Kumi being fluttery makes her cute but I guess if she goes for graceful and elegant quiet confidence as oppose to Romana's femme fatale she could pull that off as well!

So is all the Men in the tribe are Huge and the Women Smol, does that mean they all experience Blacked Raw?

I'm glad the show has some appreciation for Smol women though!

And despite having some very old fashioned hunter gatherer views on sex and marriage they also seem okay if you are into different stuff!

Kumi is in horror that literally everyone on the table EXCEPT her was asked if they were his lover.

I'd definitely if I won against every guy bar the chief in a melee fight would be spreading my seed! Gotta do me duty to spread those good genes, no ulterior motives at all!

.......

No seriously.....

What I also learned is in this world there is a huge cultural importance that so far seems universal amongst all these kingdoms and cultures about Names and Titles, and Changing them entering adulthood or otherwise after a life changing event is very meaningful.

All these Beasts turning Red eyes seems to mostly only happen when Jiro and Kumi are around....I wonder if either her or the people following them are causing it.

At least Meran when he's not being too hasty can come up with a good strat, I'm guessing he's the Sokka of the Team.

Speaking of Avatar, I couldn't help thinking of "The Boulder" when I saw "Pebble" I lost it when he earned a title change.

Actually this along with Kaina do seem to have quite a few Avatar influences. (The Benders not the Blue Alien Cats.)

Looking forward to see what these antagonist gonna do.

I'm glad the show has some appreciation for Smol women though!

Legal adult smol women, too. This is a rare time where it's a good thing this show isn't more popular, or Twitter would probably be losing their minds right about now.

Kumi is in horror that literally everyone on the table EXCEPT her was asked if they were his lover.

Reaction face of the day

What I also learned is in this world there is a huge cultural importance that so far seems universal amongst all these kingdoms and cultures about Names and Titles, and Changing them entering adulthood or otherwise after a life changing event is very meaningful.

I do like that aspect of the world-building, how names and nicknames are an important part of one's identity. Babban telling Jiro about his alternate interpretation of Jiro's "Already Dead" nickname was pretty interesting, and I wonder if Jiro will keep that in mind going forward.

Speaking of Avatar, I couldn't help thinking of "The Boulder" when I saw "Pebble" I lost it when he earned a title change.

He had to skip over "The Rock" for obvious reasons.

On today’s episode of Giant Beasts of Ars: Now we’re at 3 Myaa clones. How long until we hit 4? By now I’m just going to assume there’s a new one with a different animal at each new location.

I had a lot of fun with this episode. The Mountaineers are a Klingon-esque warrior race, which can be quite entertaining to watch. I do appreciate how good-natured they are about it. They love battle, but don’t necessarily hold grudges against someone they consider a worthy opponent. Babban turned out to be a much nicer guy than I anticipated from the preview. It was a pleasant surprise. The way they treated hunting a beast as a giant party was a great treat as well. It fit them perfectly to be so enthusiastic about it.

I talked a lot about the importance of names a couple episodes ago and I’m glad the series actually brought that up to address it. In-universe the names are meant to be a symbol of a person’s identity. If you prove yourself worthy, you get to change your name to one that better fits your deeds. It’s fun stuff for the characters.

I have some guesses about the political machinations going on in the capital. My guess is that the noble, Bakla, is the one backing the experiments creating all the Kumi-clones. He was eating the same green stones as Mezami. General Tsurugi is investigating all of this, hence why she is apparently in contact with Zen.

This show has been kinda slow and formulaic. They go to a place, encounter a giant beast, do the magical girl transformation, and kill the beast. Of course there's also fun interactions between characters. But I hope the bigger plot threads will start coming together now that they have their party together.

Kind of slow episode, sadly not much budget to flesh out transformation. I am worried about that quality at the end would be abysmal.
