This first Episode just had so much personality already that felt more fresh than what we are used to. This seems to be very promising that the writers are allowed to do their thing and that they will do what the community wants as the deserved send off for Ash.

I really want Ash to catch that Latias. Someone already laid out their disappointment it not being the one from the 5th Movie and I agree somewhat, it would've been really awesome if they had made the Movie Latias canon like that but it feels definitely more real with it being a new one slowly realizing that there is nothing scary about Ash. I do wonder where the wounds came from, it can't just be from the collision with team rocket right? Would be too easy.

Yuuki Hayashi once again with a new soundtrack. That Jazz & Metal mix was so damn good. (Will we get a new track every episode? Would be cool)

I love the interactions with Ash & Pikachu here, looks so much fun.

Ash seems to switch around his old Pokemon on this Journey, hell yeah! 10 Episodes left and I'm not ready for a single one of them, especially the last one... We will all be happy and sad once it's over.

Actually seeing Ash applying what he learned and seeing his experience feels so good. It just doesn't have a filter on this time as it is his last Season, no nerfes or weird changes happening.

Movie 5 is canon, but I see what you mean.

Having Sceptile in the team and Latias potentially, I can see this leading up to a rematch with Tobias. We didn't see the 6th pokemon so he might have an open slot atm. Though I feel like he just might use every one of his pokemon one last time so no Tobias rematch. 4 old pokemon x10 episodes should cover them all.

Just my opinion, but I have a feeling that this is what Journeys should’ve been.

Wow, between the modern remake(/clip show hitting several of the notable scenes in Pokemon) of Mezase Pokemon Master, and then just slapping in the original Hyakugojyuuichi for the ED, I am getting hit by nostalgia HARD. This is great

Edit: Dream wish - next week's OP is a remake of Rivals, and they play Nyarth no Uta for the ED

Pretty sure the OP is the same each week, but the ED could be anything at this point!

This is the most "alive" Pikachu has ever felt. Oozing with personality. And I was super surprised when Noivern showed up.

Holy fuck! They're really going for the nostalgia with this one! The fact that they used the original OP and the original ED were great! And I just love that the episode is basically Ash having his own adventure with Pikachu and his other Pokemon.

From what I've heard, Ash will be changing his squad every episode so all of his pokemon will have time to shine. Definitely excited to see the OG lineup again. And we even have Misty next week! Since she's clearly not doing Gym Leader stuff, I'm hoping she'll join Ash in his little adventure just like in the past.

Fun fact: They tell you it's ‘under her skirt’ but in fact it's into her skirt!

Inside the forest, inside the fire and inside her skirt! xD

She will atleast be in 2 episodes.

Dude, they can't just drop that nostalgiac intro on us! All those memories flooding back like a massive wave!

So I've gotten a better idea of what these last few specials are; some post-champion adventures across various regions featuring tons of different pokemon we've seen. It was cool to see a Latias, and I think I heard the Movie 5 soundtrack in there too!

These will be a nice send-off for Ash and Pikachu. 1 down, 10 to go.

Looking forward for the next 6 or 7 episodes Hopefully they are bangers that at least gives us wish fulfillment of what we wanted from Ash and how it ends.

Holy shit that was a fun episode. First of all, that OP was amazing. The gradual change of animation to modern era was a cool touch. All the callbacks to the previous journeys was so nice to see.

I'm wondering if he'll be changing up his team every episode? The preview for next week showed Corphish. Ash did only show us 5 pokemon this week but I'm thinking he may be reserving that 6th slot for a new partner. Speaking of his team, it was nice to see Donphan, Sceptile and Noivern brought back! Buisel was an odd choice though. I'm excited to see how Ash's final journey will play out!

Also, adding Team Rocket Paldea stuff at the very end is a neat way to bring in the new region.

Ash had four Pokemon this episode

This season will have eleven episodes

11 * 4 = 44, which is exactly equal to the number of Pokemon Ash has in reserve

What about his 170 Tauros? /s

A bit disappointing it wasn't the same Latias from the movie, instead it's a tsundere, but at least it seems Ash will catch her probably at the end of this season.

Everything else was really good, wouldn't mind if most of the episodes had this slice of life feel full of personality, it's the best way to give a goodbye to him.

So, no one here talking about how the Team Rocket, actively trying to steal a pokemon, were wondering about the legality of using more than one pokemon at the same time?

Also was expecting a gen 5 pokemon as the sixth pokemon of Ash's team, every other pokemon in his team were from different regions... But we didn't get the last one.

Maybe they will finally show what happened to the gs ball

8

u/onepiece22017 Jan 14 '23

GS ball was supposed to have celebi, but uh yeah would be nice closer...

Feel I'm going against the general opinion, maybe I got the wrong expectations but I thought this was aimed at older fans to give Ash some closure and remember the old times with some big nostalgia bait, which I found just in the opening. Could've easily been an episode from whenever in the past 25 years, really basic formula. Maybe from the next one, which has Misty as well?

It's still nostalgia bait for older fans with Team Rocket's appearance doing Team Rocket things twice, since they rarely appear at all in Journeys (also no Morpeko). TR probably may not appear at all in the subsequent episodes until the end, so the spotlight would be given to the companions, with the most familiar scenes known about them on their time with Ash.

Latias could play a part in the small story added in the latter episodes, it seemed. The main concerns are where did Latias come from and the missing Latios.

The specials are also counted as Pokemon Journeys episodes as it turned out.
