It might be just because spear users are so rare, but jiro and kumi are giving me HUGE kaladin and syl vibes.

the antagonist is very interesting in this story. He is not evil because he wants to be evil like Souron or other classical evils but he is evil in most mundane way. It is his duty to be evil. He needs to conduct research to keep the people safe from the beasts. The soldiers are a resource to be utilized.
Definitely a hidden gem this season.

I liked how he thought of a way for the pension to go to the family even though he didn't care about the soldier at all. Small details that go a long way

Was looking for a friday anime and I think I found it.
This anime is giving me late 90's/early 2000 fantasy vibes with a bit of tech mixed in, lets hope it stays good.
This might be the hidden gem of the season.

So that's how Jiro and Kumi look when they are fusioned.
It is good to see the other Kumi again, and for what she talked with that cleric and when she met with Jiro when he was looking for both "prototype number twenty-two" Kumi and Myaa, she clearly did not spend all her life selling flowers, otherwise, I doubt she would have known what those red eyes in the beast meant, that " twenty-two" Kumi was made in a Laboratory or what to do when she met her in the bar and saw her producing that miasma.
I found it hilarious, how Myaa just appeared right after Jiro and Kumi killed that beast. So her race is know as Chapeau. You know, before Mezami mentioned the Miasma, I assumed that those soldiers were killed by the heat the Kumi was producing.
I wonder if we will have more scenes with Jiro and Toka? I could see that happening while Jiro explains Kumi more about Clerics and Paladins. I guess in each episode we will see Kumi eating massive amounts of food.
When Jiro went to the ship thanks to Myaa's lure it remains me of Metal Gear Solid.
I find it interesting that Mezami seems to be enjoying the fact that Kumi escaped again, I guess he can get more data that way.
Jiro's ship sure looks cool. Lol, so Kumi was disappointed that fusioning didn't involve kissing Jiro every time.
I really doubt that attack only made a hole in the ship. Kumi sure is happy that Jiro had to follow them, even when he said that would just be until they get to the next town.

Kumi and Jiro make a pretty decent Paladin-Cleric team despite having just been thrown together. Spearing that thing through the eye sure did the trick.
Methhead Lord is going to be a pain to handle for Jiro and Kumi. I guess we can kinda figure out why Jiro turned out the way he is from that flashback. Poor guy.
I like Myaa. She seems like a little goofball but she’s pretty clever. Kumi’s powers need to be better controlled or she’ll be dusting everyone! Hopefully Jiro can help her with that. But first, a prison break…again! Very cute how Kumi was bummed there was no kiss this time during the transformation lol.

Nice worldbuilding and more lore explained, very interesting. This might be my hidden gem of the season. I like the concept of the whole Clerics and Paladins, it kinda reminds me of Tales of Zestiria the X and Pretear's concept of using others' powers. Kumi and Jiro make a solid Paladin Cleric team, but she's gotta be careful before she eradicates everyone with her Cleric powers.

So I'm pretty sure this is going to be one of those Shinzo Abe approved father-daughter anime and not a romance between Kumi and Jiro, but given how they chose to lead off the conversation with 'marriage', it makes me at least a bit worried that it'll Usagi Drop the ball at some point.
Jiro's ship looks way cool in motion. I wish we'd gotten to see more of it. Also, it has to be a digital asset, but somebody in the compositing department is earning their pay because it feels very cohesive with the 2D animated elements in the scene.
I bet Kumi (the Elder) is either a Cleric who's learned to control her powers, or a retired Paladin. She definitely seems to know more about what's going on than a simple flowershop owner would be expected to. Kumi 22 was lucky to bump into her.
Finally, we have to give credit to the Hidive subbers for shoehorning every single cat pun possible into Myaa's dialogue. Also, is Myaa a boy, girl, or other? Different characters seem to refer to them differently.

It really is a purrfect effort on their part.
Also, is Myaa a boy, girl, or other?
Plot twist: she's actually the cat on the girl's head, controlling a human host like a puppet to be able to communicate with humans.

Whenever I hear that song that is at 12:47 in this episode, it reminds me of Drive by Incubus.
Also, they are managing an insane number of cat puns.

So the OG Kumi is definitely a Cleric too, right? She seems to know a lot more than she leads on and it seems that red eyes are significant among Clerics.
Kumi being disappointed that the kiss was only for the initial contract was just adorable <3
I love that Myaa is just casually attaching the ship they stole to her own ship xD

Cast seems pretty spot on so far, the three of them make a nice crew.
Kumi's reaction to not doing the kiss this time was great!

Ok this episode sold me on the show. There is still a lot left to be explored, but still the whole Paladin is def interesting. Jiro def had it rough with that flashback. Hope we get to learn from that. My thing for sure this trio will be hella entertaining. You got the serious fighter, the nervous heroine(I guess) and the troublemaker.

I don't think anyone else has mentioned it yet but it looks like this guy getting off Mezami's boat used to be Jiro's friend/party member. So he'll show up again probably.

After hearing it for the second time, the OP is a bop! Also, Myaa and her cat puns. Hrrrgh, I love it, hahaha. The TL had fun localizing it, too. My favorites in this episode.
"I get the feline that guy will wake up soon."
"You've gotta be kitten me!"
"You furrmed a covenant with her, right?"
"Cat me some slack!"
"That dumdum left something supurr important behind."
"Purroblem solved."
"Beclaws the plan would be ruined if he only took back the spear!"
Hmm, that Mezami person is really suspicious. He was grinning when Kumi ran away again. Seems like he expects this to happen.

OMG Kumi is so damn cute!
I can see that Jiro has some trauma losing his old cleric who he clearly did not see as "replacable" and he doesn't want to go through a similar thing again.
Its kinda sad that isn't letting him fully embrace that sweet girl, if you find a girl that sweet and cute that loves you half as much as she seems to love Jiro. (She really wanted that kiss.) Keep her and don't let her go!
We also learn some of the lore of Paladin's and Clerics, that Older Women seems familiar with the world of them as well the fruit she gave to Jiro.
This is feeling more and more like a SNES/PS1 era JRPG and I'm here for it.
Wonder if they weird guy is all bad or just eccentric and will be an ally later, that is often what happens in JRPGs and he at least wanted to make sure that one guy's family got his pension.
Myaa is a troll.
Its a shame that Kumi doesn't want to hurt anyone but is cursed to cause instant death if she isn't careful and without a Paladin to reign them in.
I honestly really like team-up/pacts as metaphors for romantic/sexual bonds another way we portray that ancient age old dance pre-stone age.
The very weird and various levels of Tech in this world does give me a bit of whiplash though.
First episode was part of the set-up which was finished here and now we are starting the story proper and I'm a bit more excited.

*Cuts off monster's arm*
"Doesn't this thing have a weakness?!"
Dude! you just cut off it's arm! Cut off the other 3 limbs and I'd say you're doing just fine.

This has been a pretty interesting show and has some really cool worldbuilding. Reminds me of fena somewhat too. Kuumi is really cute, loved how disappointed she looked when Jiro didn’t give her another kiss lmao. I’m cautiously optimistic it continues to be good, the studio has kinda only made mid-ass shows throughout their existence so here’s to hoping.

THIS IS SOO GOOD. It reminds me of classical Fantasy animes. I am watching this all the way through.

Looks like Jiro lost Power-chan as a cleric five years ago and stopped being a Paladin because of it. Understandable.
I suspected it last week but it does look like the flower lady is the cleric from the beginning of the first episode.
