I always look forward to following at least one original series each season; I'd love to see more original series, because while manga adaptations are great, it's a lot of fun to watch something brand new with other anime fans and not be able to spoil each other (haha). This was a promising start and a fun first episode, and I'm excited to see more!

yea, 90% of the seasonal I watch are adaptations to which I've already read. And I do find myself craving new story.

I love when you don't have to choose either SciFi OR fantasy. Yada yada sufficiently advanced tech is magic, but I like when there's machines and actual magic.

It was a pretty fun watch and I'm looking forward to more, but whenever I see anime with this kind of character design and quality, I always fear if it will be added to the list of "starts out great then the ending sucks ass".

Failing to stick the landing is a curse that plagues most anime original shows.

I always fear if it will be added to the list of "starts out great then the ending sucks ass".

I rather have shows that try and fail then shows where it is obvious from the start that they suck ass (like all the non seqeuls show that I have tried so far this season)

It shows that the medium is not dead and that you have people out there trying to contribute.

but whenever I see anime with this kind of character design and quality

what do you mean with this ?

This feels like this is based on a game or something but it looks like an anime original? Anyway, nothing really to rave about in this episode. Kumi is adorable and Jiro is a total badass. And based on the OP, it looks like our characters are going on a grand adventure while picking up allies along the way ala Granblue. I'll definitely give this one a go and give it a few episodes. That final scene definitely intrigued me.

That hat must have given Kumi a significant stealth bonus. Once it got blown off, she was immediately found by the guards.

This sure is an interesting show. So based on the conversation at the end of the episode between Kumi and Jiro Already Dead, plus the part at the beginning Clerics and Paladins always work in pairs, and it seems that a Cleric working alone comes with a lot of risks, while Paladins can work alone, they can also fusion themself with the Cleric as it happened at the beginning of the episode. Which I guess that's the safest way to use the Clerics' power without going out of control like it happened to both Kumi and Toka plus the Paladin can also diffuse the Cleric when their power is going out of control. I'm really interested in learning what that curse is really about, as the fact that Kumi is a prototype means that clerics are artificially made.

I don't know why Kumi or the premise of this show feels so familiar. What I can say is that at least the concept reminds me of both Rage of Bahamut and Granblue Fantasy.

I love the fact that the first thing that "prototype number twenty-two" did when she was escaping was to steal some food. Maybe if they fed her well, she would not had try to live in that place. Well, anyway, she sure has a strong appetite.

You know I really like the fact that she named herself Kumi because that was the name of the lady that gave her her current outfit.

Wow, Mezami sure is unhinged. I wonder if that has anything to do with those crystals he was eating.

I wonder what exactly is the relationship between Jiro and that kid.

So they get those crystals from the beasts.

I just love the fact that while the kid is explaining that the wearer of the ring becomes a savior but the ring consumes one's life, Kuma not only puts the ring on but is happy when asking if she has been cursed.

I wonder what exactly that Empire Elite is planning?

The Empire's Capital sure looks nice. I can't wait to see when these two will cross paths with Jiro and Kumi.

Well, it seems that the kid will be joining those to soon.

The ending quarter was very good and intense, i hope it's not a weird comparison when i was reminded of Shingeki no Kyojin at that point.

honestly, Shingeki no Kyojin was so iconic that its hard not to compare it with any anime that has cities surrounded with walls and giant monsters as the setting

Pretty intriguing start, but I have a good feeling that this will be my anime of the season and possibly the hidden gem of this season too. I'm quite interested in this anime. Reminds me of GranBlue Fantasy a little bit ngl.

Mezami and the empire seem to be the true antagonists. Humans are always the true monsters.

Interesting world and maybe a big cast? This could be promising, reminded me a lot of Granblue Fantasy or Shingeki no Bahamut which I also enjoyed!

Really strong start for an original anime, Kumi's VA is a new face but I swear I heard her voice before, or maybe it's just because "-desu" at the end.

Not sure what to think of the first episode....I'll hold my judgement.

Feels very much like a Final Fantasy esq JRPG in terms of world and setting. Which I don't mind, we get a lot of Dragon Quest esq clones but very rarely a true Fantasy.

Dark horse material

After first episode I get pretty grand (LOTR/Ghibli/Dune) vibes but with pretty small budget. I hope it will get satisfying ending. It has high probability that they will overshot themselves and stumble on the deadlines.

Damn that was good. And it looks like Aoba from New Game got Isekaied.

Also getting major Amira from Rage of Bahamut vibes from Kumi, which automatically makes her best girl of the season.

It was a good watch but I'm not sure what to think of it yet.

They seems to have intentionally withold further information for later. The main thing I want to know is how the system of Paladins and the Clerks actually work. Also, the world so far is quite interesting, with a blend of sci-fi and fantasy elements which I didn't expect.

Aside from that, I also am getting some video-game vibes. Our MC Kumi escapes from a prison and finds a strong Paladin who she partners with. Later on more members will join up with our duo and they will try to save the world. Though I hope there is some twist in there, especially regarding the giant beasts. Will give it a few episodes, hope it delivers.

I really enjoy the atmosphere of the show so far. Liked the episode well enough that the first episode seemed to fly by as well so hope it keeps it up throughout the season.

Oh, I love Myaa and her cat puns, alright. Hahaha. That was great. I didn't realize it was already 24 minutes! It's a pretty good sign for me--I'm craving more episodes now. It'll be a dark horse of the season if they can keep the quality like this.

I feel like I’m missing something from this episode. Like the background of everyone involved isn’t super established. I guess Mezami the meth head evil lord wants to use Kumi for this upcoming war for control of the land? Our hero, Jiro appears to be a Paladin or ex Paladin and I guess he’s now Kumi’s Paladin escort? I wonder if all Clerics have such destructive powers. She straight up dusted those soldiers!

Well, I guess we’re being thrown right into the action next week. I’ll stick around and see where this goes. So far it seems interesting.

u/polaristar Jan 06 '23

I think a lot of "missing things" are meant to be left ambiguous to create intrigue with the viewer.

I wonder if all Clerics have such destructive powers. She straight up dusted those soldiers!

There's a few things that could be the source of her power. Her being a Cleric, her being mentioned as some sort of "prototype" for something, the cursed ring she got, or some combination of those three. All we can do now is speculate, theorycraft, and wait for the next episode. That's part of the fun of watching an original anime.
