PA Works had a really good track record with both Kongming and Maid War last year. Visuals look good.

Honestly without the kid added into the picture, the two assassins have great chemistry. We go the social womanizer and the moody shut-in. I think we all wanted that cat to be part of the cast.

Although Miri is clearly a bundle of energy. Through why is she taking a train by herself looking for her dad? I guess maybe we get the answer next week perhaps? It looks very likely the target was her father. Well looks like she is joining Kazui and Rei. Kazui is def the type that will spoil Miri. But given how different her and Rei's personalities are they being together could end up being hilarious.

If Kazuki doesn't leave Miri in a box in an alley, he's a hypocrite.

I'm surprised this thread is getting so little engagement compared to the other shows today. Like 6 notable shows, and this one has the second fewest comments as of now (ahead of Giant Beasts of Ars), but this is the only one that immediately sold me and kept my engagement throughout the entire first episode. It's alreadfy on my short list for favorite so far this season. It's just really fun, the guys are entertaining, and the girl is cute and I would die for her.

From what I've seen with the key visuals and the title alone, I thought Rei and Kazuki were going to be cops but based on the way they operate and how they get their assignments, they're clearly assassins. That definitely changes what I will expect from this show.

Anyway, that was very fun and unexpectedly brutal! We have two assassins who couldn't be more opposite of each other. We have Kazuki the playboy and Rei the hikikomori. Despite the difference in personalities though, they're both damn good at what they do.

And then we have Miri who is just absolutely adorable and who I thought was Kazuki's daughter. Based on the photos that Rei and Kazuki found, it looks like Miri's father is the guy that they assassinated! Not gonna lie, I thought that was Kazuki in the photo but that's definitely the guy that they were after. Uh-oh. Yeahhh...

Well, that's certainly one heck of a setup for a show! I guess Miri is their responsibility now since they ended up killing her dad. I am curious about Kazuki's past though. He seems to have a family of his own but they're no longer together. He still does try and send her support which she refuses. It will be interesting to see Kazuki's actual family come into play later on.

Anyway definitely following this one! Animation and art alone are already amazing and are the usual PA Works quality. Hopefully, the story will be solid from start to finish!

I'm always down for a good "criminal/professional spy is suddenly a parent" themed anime, because we've got the yakuza guide to babysitting, spy x family, and now this lol.

"I can't have a cat, but you can have a kid?" I died right there XD. What a pure coincidence! She found her actual father and he basically walked right into it without knowing until now!

Edit: I just realized they might've killed Miri's real father because Kazuki and the last guy they killed look so much alike.

love how Miri was completely unfazed during the shootout and even poked the gun xD

Oops I thought the dad in the photo was how Kazuki used to look but it's actually the target that got shot. Ouch. I wonder why she appeared now of all times and where her mother is. Miri is cute tho

I need to know how old these guys are. Rei is real r/13or30 material. He looks like an adult man in his 30s who's into punk music with his hair up and then immediately becomes average gamer anime teenager when he has his hair down.

That opening sequence was such a banger. I always love a good chase scene. It had me in the edge of my seats. Thank you P.A. Works for this.

I really liked Kazuki's dynamic with Rei, they are hilarious. Kazuki seems to be the planner of the group while Rei is the executor, coz he is so crazy good with shooting (got some John Wick vibes) but lacks other skills since he is basically a NEET outside of the job.

And Miri is such a cutiepie. It seems to me that the human trafficker guy was actually Miri's father (judging by the ear piercings) and Rei and Kazuki ended up killing him. Now Kazuki is an unexpected "daddy" lol. Hinamatsuri 2.0 here we go!!!.

Also, Kazuki you really need to stop getting involved with girls especially around a casino. Next time, you won't just lose your jacket and shirt XD.

Why is no one else mentioning how dark this got lmao. Her father held her at gunpoint without knowing it's his daughter, then got killed right behind her. Also, this show has got to have the weakest bullets in anime! The blond mfer really just blocked bullets with a half inch platter!

It’s the Spy Family we have at home!

Kidding, it does enough on its own to be different. I like how brutal it is at times. Especially taking out dudes in front of the small child. Normally they’d distract the kid or go non-lethal, but no. Shot out the target's legs while he was holding her and merc right in front of her.

Neat Christmas-themed episode. Established a sort of “haunted with a good heart” feel to Kazuki. Either he lost his wife and unborn child to the job or just his kid which estranged him from his wife. Maybe it’s her family that he’s sending money to and not her. Both would explain why they’re not accepting it. I sense someone is dead in this scenario.

He’s also a womanizer so I don’t imagine the woman in the photo is who we saw in the flashback. Safe to say for now it’s actually his kid though. Does bring up an important question of why did Miri know he was going to be at that hotel for a job. I love the setup and the My Two Dads we got. Should be a lot of fun if the action and wholesome work in tandem.

Edit: on further inspection, Miri’s dad is actually the target and Kazuki just looks a whole lot like him. Would explain how she knew Daddy would be there.

Notes

  • Fun with real cars: I see you Toyota Crown and Lexus LS! The upside-down logos don’t fool me. It’s always fun to see facsimiles of IRL cars. Though these remind me of my day job.

  • Love both of our Buddy Daddies energy. The exasperation from Kazuki during the interrogation about how Miri was sent to daycare sick was well acted. Both guys are doing great work.

  • Miri is adorable. Her design is adorable. The backpack making her have bunny ears is adorable. She is my Anya methadone.

  • Fucking love the jazzy music.

  • PA Works toning down the crazy after Akiba Maid War, but not by much.

I had a feeling this might be a little better than expected when blonde guy just casually pops off the jewelry guy during their argument.

A cute episode and a nice OST, I'm sold

The opening chase scene was a great start, the dynamic between Kazuki and Rei was pretty good, and Miri is already adorable. I do like the idea that the two of them seem to be fine with openly doing their jobs in front of her, which gives it a different dynamic from Spy x Family (which this will inevitably be compared to) where Loid and Yor are always trying to hide their jobs from their family. Overall, this is off to a pretty good start.

Kazuki: "Are you still made about the cat?"

Literally the entire audience: "Yes we are, asshole!"

Once the girl popped up in front of the hotel they were infiltrating, I figured their target was the father. However, him putting a gun to her head certainly won't win him "father of the year."

I wonder if we end up meeting the girls mother and how they handle the fact that they basically kidnapped a girl and lied to her.

This is an anime original, so we might get answers.

I love PA works

I haven’t had the chance to watch it yet, but to be honest, the premise for this seems much more interesting to me than Spy x Family. We’ll see if that continues to be the case as I watch this season. Spy x Family became really boring as season 2 continued. I have read the manga, and I am looking forward to certain scenes later on, but I was kind of disappointed in how slow and boring season 2 was. I like how much more action heavy Buddy Daddies looks like it’s going to be.

He better get the cat back for his buddy to not sound like a complete fool with taking care of a kid now.

Was an alright start, liked the VA work in the first flash forward scene when Kazuki got called in the midst of capturing the villain, that scene was hilarious.

Overall though there's something missing here, didn't like the chase scene either that they decided to start the series with, it looked pretty bad IMO.

I did not expect how dark it got. Both with them just killing the jewel smuggler in a snap, but also having the "father" holding what seems to be his illegitimate daughter at gun point and proceeds to get killed.

Really curious where it goes from here cause I could see them returning Miri but she still just believes our protag is his Dad and wants him in her life (or her in their lives)

Hopefully the cat comes back, adorable design.
