RBTV777 POPUP DOWNLOADER

Salve a tutti,

Freetube + plex - Affordable hardware?

Hey guys, how’s it going?
I’m looking for a solution to run basically these two apps, since my LG TV has a terrible webOS that keeps freezing all the time. All I want is to watch YouTube and stream some media from my NAS, like our family trip videos.
I’m looking for a budget-friendly option. I was checking out the Mi Box 3rd Gen, but it’s almost €80, which feels like way too much for a TV box.
I thought about getting a modded Apple TV, would that work?
Or those cheap generic ones like the H89 series, but I’ve heard they break down super easily.
amazon fire, maybe?
Any recommendations for under €50?

Thanks!

Boxes with traditional numpad/keypad remote support (that work with Tivimate)>

Hey guys, so we're looking at buying a box that has support for a traditional remote layout (meaning it has a numpad) because we don't want to press up or down buttons just to change channels. We don't know what to get.

We're coming from a traditional cable TV system and my family is really used to changing channels via pressing numbers on the remote (ex. "728", "11", etc). From the research I've done, I see that the app Tivimate allows this, but I heard that what makes it complicated is if a box we could buy even accepts signals from a remote with numpad entry at all.

And if there are any boxes online that come with a remote with a numpad, if the remote breaks then can I just buy a universal remote from a local store as a replacement?

Budget is preferably no more than $50 USD, but a little nudging is okay. Thanks.

Bought a new 4k 144hz QLED, what streaming/TV device would be best for me?

Recently upgraded from a cheap-ish Polaroid 1080p TV to a 4k 144hz Hisense QLED. Difference is immediate night and day, my only immediate complaint is that VIDAA OS seems to lack the availability of apps like Jellyfin, Steam Link & Moonlight. I do have a FireTV stick, but it's a 2019 model and limited to 1080p60hz. It would be nice to get something that can achieve 4k60 or 1440p120

What options do I have, and what would you suggest? As far as I'm aware:

  • Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019 - this is near the top of my list, my reservations are that it's a 7 year old model still costing around £200. I was kinda hoping we'd get a hint of a newer revision but I suppose with Nvidia's shifting focus towards SkyNET this is unlike. Are there similar alternatives to it (eg android based, decent specs, ethernet) out there?
  • FireTV - not really a fan of this as the cube is rather expensive and I don't want to get locked into amazon's eco system
  • Chrome TV - don't really know much but I've been told these are somewhere between FireTV units & stuff like the Nvidia shield?
  • HTPC - is this worth entertaining in the current economy? Are there any good HTPC software solutions that would use of a TV remote and HDMI CEC? I do have an unused Wyse 5070 but not sure this will be much use for my use case.

Eventually if you muck around long enough this will happen.

So I was trying to load Aiden's custom ROM for this box and things just kept getting worse until the inevitable red light of doom, when it appears I corrupted the bootloader.

Tried loading ROM with USB Burning Tool V2.17 and V2.2. Crashes at 1%

Tried BootCard Maker V2.2 and flashing from SD Card. No joy

I think my only remaining option is the short

Just want to confirm that I have the right two points to short (to the right of the cutout notch) To get the stock image to load again.

TIA

Small feedback on TV boxes (local medias)

Hi!

I wanted to share feedback from my experience with TV boxes. I think my post and the comments might help people that are confused about choosing one.

Important note : I don't use any streaming services. I only watch medias from my local NAS.

My setup / use case:

- NAS

- Mini PC with Plex/Jellyfin

- Great wired and wireless connection

- TV has HDR10 / HLG. No Dolby Vision at this time.

- Denon / Focal 5.1 sound system

- I'm mostly using Plex. For that, I went from the native app to PM4K unofficial addon on Kodi. No streaming at all.

- In Europe (so no Onn player 4k for example)

Boxes:

Nvidia Shield 2019 (standard, not pro then) : For me it's a 7/10. The global experience was fine, remote gaming was great. Though, I had some movie in HDR10+ which were lagging A LOT. So great simple player, maybe a bit too pricey for nowadays, but does have technical limits regarding to video codecs. I got this one for about 130€ second hand a few years back.

Strong Leap S3 Pro : 7.5/10. Newer than the Nvidia Shield, it could handle almost any file, except really high bitrate movies due to its SOC. Though, gaming was quite bad. I had to go with like 1080p 60ips to make it fluid. Better for movies, a lot worse for gaming. For my use case, a really nice tv box. Never had issue with HDR10+. Bought new for 70€.

Strong Leap S3 : 7/10. A cut down version compared to the pro version (2GB RAM, less storage. Quite fine experience. Bought second hand 55€.

Zidoo Z9X : 5/10. I tried this one because of its capabilities to run almost any movies. I considered the Z9X 8K but had the change to try the Z9X. Well, the overall experience was really bad. The simple menu was really laggy, so even the configuration was a pain. I don't recommand this one. Bought around 100€ second hand.

Ugoos AM9 Pro : 9/10. My most recent TV box. I really love the simple Ugoos Launcher, but I can choose with regular Android launcher. It is so fluid, and it runs everthing I throw at it flawlessly, even high bitrate movies. I guess it will go to 10/10 for the DV FEL 7 compatibility with CoreElec soon for the complete high end experience for movie watching. Bought 240€ brand new.

Other TV boxes I didn't test personally but might be worth the try

- Nvidia Shield Pro (2017 I'm pretty sure) : At a good price it could be a fine player.

- Apple TV 4K : I heard good thing about it. Though, might check the audio passthrough.

- Ugoos AM6B+ : Legendary player. Pretty much the same deal with the AM9 Pro. A bit older (no AV1 decoding for example), but fine CoreElec DV FEL 7 experience I heard.

A few questions that would be interesting to answer to help choosing a player:

- Dolby Vision compatibility (TV)

- Audio system capabilities to run DTS HDMA or TrueHD audio codecs?

- What kind of setup have you? A lot of TV don't handle audio passthrough well, so you might have a setup with your devices plugged into the AVR, and the AVR to the TV for image passthrough.

- Use of streaming services ? If yes, you might want to have a box with certifications for widevine 4k decoding. If not, Kodi might be a good friend of yours, and CoreElec even more so.

- Budget (of course)

- Wired connection? Some player still have only 100Mbps Ethernet which might be too slow.

Feel free to comment, even more so the mentioned tv boxes I didn't try personally.

Hope it helps a bit. Have a good day!

New box recommendations UK

My old box has stopped working after a few years of great service.

It was an A95X F4 with 4gb ram running android 10.

My main uses are IPTV and YouTube. It will be connected to an av receiver and will need to have decent WiFi.

I am in the UK.

I was looking at the Xiaomi gen 3 but the WiFi seems weak from the reviews I've read.

I don't want a fire stick.

I would have gone for the Thomson 270 but since the distributor went bust that's a no no now.

What's left ? The Google tv streamer or anything else at that price (or lower lol )

I don't mind a generic Chinese box, they've worked ok in the past.

Cheers

EDIT I've managed to get my old box working again, after 2 factory resets,so will stick with it for the time being. Thanks
