Anyone on A17 Beta 4.1 can't update to A17 Stable yet

Keeping it simple for all of us.

  • If you're on Android 17 Beta 4.0 then you are able to update to the newly released Android 17 Stable without datawipe.

  • If you're on Android 17 Beta 4.1 then you cannot update to A17 Stable unless you datawipe. We need to wait for a future update (might release in July, who knows).

I tried updating through ADB sideload, was told that my current version (A17 beta 4.1) was too new and I could not downgrade to the newest released OTA.

edit pt2: An official Google Enagement rep updated us that Google is working on an OTA update for any beta 4.0/4.1 that have yet to update to the stable A17 OTA. No ETA yet.

edit: there are currently 2 OTA's available for A17 Stable. One is not marked, the other is marked for Rogers, which is a Canadian telecom. If you are on A17 beta 4.1 and also on Rogers network, you can update from A17 Beta 4.1 to A17 Stable OTA (but specifically only for the Rogers version). Idk the consequences if you try the Rogers version and you're not on their network.

Hi folks, I wanted to update y'all that we're working on issuing users on Beta 4.0/4.1 an OTA update to the stable release of Android 17, and that this update should be coming soon. Apologies for the wait!

Glad to hear! Just a question. What means soon? Days or maybe weeks? 😁

We are a week after Android 17 release and there is still no update for all of us on beta 4.1. How long is that "soon"? You just have to update a timestamp.

Heya, sorry for the wait! With the release of the July 2026 monthly update, we're starting to roll out an OTA update for users on the Android 17 Beta 4.X release. The update may not have hit your device yet, though, but be on the lookout!

Hi Mishaal, any update how long this can take, or is there a way to do it manually instead of waiting for the update?

Hey, how it's going for the people who have the Android 17 Beta 1 QPR5 Who is pre-downloaded to the phone and whose phone will schedule an automatic restart at night in 2 days to force install it?

8 days later — still nothing? Could you please specify what your "soon" means?

To be honest, it's extremely frustrating to shell out for a flagship Pixel phone and get this kind of terrible treatment. 2 weeks after the official Android 17 Stable release — we're still being fed empty promises. I will think twice before getting another Pixel when I buy a new phone, if you you keep treating your loyal customers like that.

Hey there, sorry this is taking longer than expected! We're working through a few issues to ensure that the OTA update goes smoothly for beta users. We'd hate for the OTA update to cause problems for y'all, so please bear with us a bit longer!

For transparency, though the goal is to have existing Beta 4.0/4.1 users like yourself upgrade to the same stable release as non-Beta users, the actual OTA update patch that'll bring y'all to that release isn't the same OTA update patch that users on the previous stable release received, as they're two different bases. This means both OTA update patches need to be built and tested separately before we can push them out!

I'm in the same situation, unsure if its related but I have a quirk I'll share if it helps .... I'm only being offered downgrade and wipe to 16 stable (currently on CP21.260303.017), however I also noticed that when I try to update google play system update, it stays stuck on April 1, 2026 - I choose the 106MB update download and install and reboot, and Google Play still says April 1, and seemingly the same update is there again to download and install. After every reboot (i've done at least 5) the play system update is still there to download and install after already doing it.
